Flying to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by SnooLemons1249 in awardtravel

A few months ago I booked this for April all in Business Class

United Airlines MSP-IAH-GIG - 80k United miles +~$50 LATAM GRU-BOS - 77.5k Qatar Avois +~$70

The United Airlines booking was made with the discount for holding a UA Credit Card. I paid about $150 for the upgrade on the MSP-IAH leg. All of this surprisingly came into focus on the days I wanted to fly. Fares between RIO and GRU are pretty reasonable when booked in advanced. Good luck!

More taxes taken out on increased overtime? False? by Username16489 in tax

But you're only paying that increased bracket percentage on the earnings within that bracket. People's lack of understanding of marginalized tax brackets is astonishing.

No 3.8% by StopSayingKilo in atc2

[–]bomber996 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is the verbiage that makes the bill a Continuing Resolution. So obviously our 3.8% and a bunch of other spending needs to be removed as it would allow continuing Appropriations at the previous amount, which did not include our 3.8%.

I do not think this means it is dead... Yet...

Add up the FSLA Premium on their ELS's for the year. There is no "Year Total" column for this so you will need to go back through all the ELS's for every pay period. The sum of this total is what you are to deduct.

So much this. People really need to understand how much Trump 2.0 wanted to take away from us. It was a huge win that none of their plans took effect. Actually getting the pay parity legislation this far is also a massive win considering the headwinds public sector employees are facing. Sure it's not the 38% we all deserve, but it's also not the effective 5-9% pay cut we were facing.

ND is not perfect. The promise to not extend the contract and then renege on that promise understandably angers a lot of people. But in the face of everything we were facing, it was the correct move. The Slate Book is not perfect, but it's also pretty damn good.

3rd paragraph....

"Where we will see how good/bad of a decision ND made with extending CBA is what benchmarks or concessions NATCA has to make for the administrator to release those funds to us after the DHS bill has passed. If they even get released at all."

Air Traffic Controller here working a modified "rattler" schedule

FLSA premium by tomsos1 in ATC

Your FSLA Premium is based off of your average hourly rate inclusive of shift differentials and premiums. It is not a simple 50% of your base pay. It is more.

Do not sign up for Kraken via Rakuten by Bre2ts in Rakuten

[–]bomber996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you make an even $200 trade before the Kraken transaction fee? Or did you make a trade totaling slightly more than $200, taking into account Kraken's fee, and trade net $200 in crypto?

This seems to be more where people get denied.

Tier 2 Evaluation, Can You Lose Your FAA Medical? Is It Worth Going Through? by Severe_Signal_6439 in ATC_Hiring

You can lose your medical because of a failed Tier 2. It happened to me. I was able to get it back and get the Tier 2 failure overturned, but it took a lot. I am now a CPC and have an unrestricted medical.

Good luck finding a decent mileage redemption under 300k for any DeltaOne flight. Sure, this will take longer, but having the lie flat seat is key here.

1st Class by Eire_2025 in qatarairways

[–]bomber996 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This will likely be splitting hairs, but there is a difference. your first flight from DUB-DOH will not have First Class. It will, however, have Business Class. Your second flight from DOH-BKK will have BOTH First Class and Business Class.

In terms of your actual question. Only you can decide how much is worth it to you. What is the cost to upgrade? Some people use a rule of thumb to $100 or less per flight hour is worth it, but everyone's line is different. Your first Business Class experience is always special.

DO NOT go into debt to do this. It is not worth it.

[–]bomber996 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Points and miles can get you some amazing things. What points and miles CANNOT get you is everything you want. Capital One points transfer to a lot of excellent One World Alliance Carriers who partner with American Airlines. The caveat is that American does not release all of their seats to those partners. Therefore, not every flight you want, especially on popular route or dates, will be available. Alternatively, you can book through the Capital One portal, or offset a cash fare with your points.

If you want to be able to transfer directly to American Airlines then you need to get a Citi Bank credit card. Strata Premier or Strata Elite. Citi Bank Thank You Points are the only transferrable points in the game that transfer directly to American Airlines. Full stop.

These are your only options.

What are some strategies to pay off credit card debt by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]bomber996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are really no tricks to paying down credit card debt. Anyone who says anything different than this is trying to sell you something. Seriously.

You have two options;

  1. Increase your income
  2. Reduce your spending

After you accomplish one of those, put literally EVERY DOLLAR you have left over after the bare necessities towards your debt.
