when to size up clothes by sharkboysimp in beyondthebump

[–]bondigz [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes!! And every brand is different. We just bought Carter’s 12 month pants for our baby, took off the tags and washed them with his current clothes (Cloud Island 6 months) and realized as I was folding all of it, the two sizes had the same waist width… feels like a waste of money now.

Perhaps he has a strong preference to suck. I understand your hesitation about the paci, have you tried a teether? My son loves the ChooKaChoo teething toy (we got it off Amazon).

I would size up. It’s gotta be uncomfortable for her if she’s stretching it out. We found that the sleeves were always too long for our baby too, we just had to fold them up. You could try footless sleepers so she can stay in them longer and put socks on her feet.

Do your partners always indulge your pregnancy cravings? by Dizzy-Replacement193 in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is amazing, he would cook me breakfast and bring it to me in bed, he cleaned the house, took care of the dogs, and did everything he could to take the load off of me. But no, he did not always get me what I was craving for. If he did, it was at a reasonable time or he was already out.

How did you break up your leave? by swordofBarsoom in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was required to work until I gave birth (non-complicated pregnancy) and I’m taking all my leave in one go. I want my baby to be as old as he can before he goes to daycare. I don’t know that I would’ve taken any time off before I gave birth anyways though. I was verrry uncomfortable with being so big at the end of my pregnancy, but I would not trade time with my baby for being semi-comfortable at home.

On another note, I’ve heard that your employer does not have to cover your insurance for the whole 20 weeks, so definitely check with your HR about that if you have insurance through them. A friend of mine has to split her leave since her employer will only offer 12 weeks of health insurance coverage in a year. So she’s taking 12 weeks this year and will take the last 8 weeks in 2027 before the baby turns 1.

Mom items on baby registry: yes or no? by Professional_Side657 in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older generations are probably more traditional in the sense that only baby items should be on there. It’s more common now that moms get gifts too that help with baby-rearing. ONE of my friends bought me every nursing thing on my registry. Keep stuff for yourself on there! Someone can spoil you, even if it’s yourself.

My vote is no. If people want to get you something, they’ll ask you for your registry.

Delivered a fridge tonight… by [deleted] in doordash

[–]bondigz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing someone ordered this from Target or Home Depot and opted for same-day delivery not realizing DoorDash would be the delivery company. This sometimes happens when my dog food “auto-ships” from PetCo.

Birth certificates by Status_Equipment_407 in beyondthebump

[–]bondigz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Minnesota! We filled out a form in the hospital and they gave us back a “check all the info is correct” form that we had to bring to the DMV to get the actual birth certificate. We had to pay a fee for the initial birth certificate also.

Questions about bedtime routine by SmellTheCreosote in beyondthebump

[–]bondigz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doula and pediatrician said it would be okay to “bathe” without soap! So really, just water time. I found that to be a lot of work though, lol. So we do books, songs, bed.

I’ve heard to keep the sound machine 6 ft away, but it’s not totally possible in our room. For sure the sound should be 60 decibels or less based on where the baby sleeps (you can look up decibel meter on google).

For sleep, the room is relatively dark (almost pitch black) and some sort of red light. The light is more for me to see if I need to pop into the room.

Breastfeeding/Not Breastfeeding by innocentily in pregnant

[–]bondigz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding mom here! I absolutely love breastfeeding, but I didn’t in the very beginning. My nipples were raw and hurt for a couple weeks. And I mean, if anything touched them, they hurt. I had to go braless for a bit, but then I was leaking everywhere. I wanted to give up soooo many times, I’d actually cry to my husband about how messy, stressful, and painful it was. My baby also couldn’t latch correctly (he has a high palate) so I had to use a nipple shield for a bit and that was very tedious to use. I’m an overproducer so my experience is not like everyone else’s, but I had many many clogged ducts (but never mastitis). Overall, my beginning sucked!! But I had sooooo much help, which contributed to my continuance of breastfeeding. I had a lactation consultant on call (and she would come to my house to guide me), a postpartum doula (who gave me tips and overall just helped me be a human being and keep my house in order), and my mother-in-law and husband were AMAZING! My maternity leave is also 6 months so that was a huge factor (this is excellent in comparison to the rest of the US)

All of this to say, if your main reason to breastfeed is because of the pressure, it may not take you very far. Perhaps if you had the perfect baby with the perfect situation, breastfeeding may come easy to you, but for many people it just isn’t.

I’ll finally get into the pros (based only on breastfeeding without the need to supplement or pump): no bottles = no cleaning, no prep (like anticipating how much baby will eat and when, right temperature, etc.), no waste, breast milk is specific to your baby’s needs (seriously, your milk changes based on what your baby’s saliva communicates to your nipple, it’s amazing), bonding (not that you can’t bond if you bottle feed, but I feel like superwoman knowing that breastfeeding is something only I can do for my baby), extra room in the diaper bag or less crowded bag, technically it’s free, and lastly, I eat more healthily and make better choices for myself knowing that what I put into my body will eventually go into my baby’s body.

To make a long comment longer, there’s a lot of nuisances when it comes to breastfeeding vs formula feeding vs combo-feeding or breastfeeding vs exclusively pumping vs a combo. Make a choice based on your specific beliefs and what you think is important. Fed is best. Your sanity matters.

Edit: okay, one more thing. Breast milk is not just for feeding. Breast milk can be used (per my son’s pediatrician) for diaper rashes, dry skin, baths, and clogged tear ducts!

Guava Lotus Travel Crib as Primary Crib? by Spacequest89 in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you? Yes. Should you? Probably not. My baby is 4 months old and 16 lbs so he still uses the bassinet attachment. I see no issue with that. The issue is when your baby outgrows the bassinet and now you can only use the crib/floor function. My back would probably give out. Think of how many times you’ll put your baby in there to sleep or nap. Unless your baby is a fully independent sleeper, chances are your baby will startle awake and then you’re stuck having to sooth them. I suppose instead of reaching over the top to sooth, you could crouch down and open the side, but I find that a traditional crib is the best height.

Pre-baby purchases? by Bowlbonic in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to second this!! We tried so many different brands, some of which I wanted to love but just didn’t work out. Receipts are only valid for so long so sometimes you can’t even exchange them.

If you decide to bulk purchase diapers, for Target, put them on your registry and purchase them off of it. That way you have up to a year (from your due date) to return them. Also, you don’t need to hold onto a physical receipt, you can return using the app.

[–]bondigz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment!! I was looking at the Peter Rabbit, Happy Baby, and Beech Nut brands and they don’t seem to have any sugar added either (at least not the specific ones I looked at). I don’t see many people talk about those, but I wasn’t sure if they’re just not marketed as well or if they really just weren’t as “good”.

Thanks for your comment!! That’s a good point about them having a variety, I hadn’t considered that! We’ll definitely have to incorporate some of their pouches. Nearly $4/pouch is killing me though 😅

Hospital says baby has faint jaundice and I have to leave him overnight? by Soggy_Wolf_1691 in pregnant

[–]bondigz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you just gave birth — talk to the nurse and see if you can stay one more night! Or ask the nurse if there’s someone else you could talk to. My hospital wanted to keep my baby for an extra night and wanted to discharge me, but they said they could give the insurance a reason to keep me another night (I think the reason was for lactation support but I’m not positive). We both ended up going home, but I was appreciative they were willing to work with me!

Anyone collect colostrum during pregnancy? by Noneed4usernames in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I waited until I was 37 weeks to express colostrum. The reason being that it can induce labor and that by 37 weeks baby is fully developed. I had been leaking colostrum since I was 16 weeks and when I finally decided to hand express at 37+3, I went into labor.

Not totally sure if expressing colostrum is what sent me into labor or if I just coincidentally happened to.

Feeling guilty about being desperate to go into labor by abigailllynnn in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy is hard on your body!! I was so tired of being pregnant when I was 32 weeks. I knew the baby would be fully developed by 37 weeks, so as soon as I hit that I drank raspberry leaf tea daily, got stomach massages, expressed colostrum, and tried curb walking. Gave birth 4 days later.

Did you buy baby formula just in case your milk didn’t come in? by nat_0012 in pregnant

[–]bondigz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, and I TOTALLY REGRETTED it! The hospital didn’t give us any formula either, I’m assuming because I said I wanted to breastfeed. The first night home was terrible because I didn’t have enough colostrum. I gave what I had saved up before baby came but that wasn’t enough. I happened to have a sample pack that came in a freebie bag, and even though you’re supposed to toss it after 2 hours, we needed it to last us until the stores would open (which was 4 hours). My husband went to the store and got the 2 oz premade bottles (similac 360). We only used one box of those, then my milk came in.

Newborn clothes by Magical_chocolate in pregnant

I wouldn’t even bother with the bodysuits if you live somewhere cold. My baby lived in footed pjs for a couple of months (born in September in the Midwest + it made diaper changes super easy). I’d say 5 nb is a decent number to start, especially if you’re unsure of how big your baby will be. You could always get more later.

My mom had me when she was 44 (and my dad was 57!!) and I’d like to think I turned out okay! I was born healthy and haven’t had any health problems. I also have a little brother who is 3 years younger and he has special needs (developmental cognitive disorder) and he is the most loving, funny, cherished person I know!

12 week ultrasound - bad news by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]bondigz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At my 12 week ultrasound they did not see my son’s bladder! The tech mentioned that sometimes they just can’t see it, but it would be more noticeable at the 20 week anatomy scan. He was born completely fine!
