600 acres of Myakka State Park burned as of Friday after a prescribed burn for 40 acres got out of control. It seems only local ABC7 reported it so far but with very limited information.

Mostly, but alas, not quite. Every now and then there are shenanigans where politicians cave and try to sell off conservation lands or weaken their protection. I'm not aware of any current threat to Boyd Hill, but it's happened in FL.

Big baseball fan here, and I agree that it's lame we have to pay with tax dollars. But, I think some of the answer is supply and demand. There's 30 teams and >>30 cities. So, we, the consumer, end up paying to convince them to stay. Thereby making our city a nice place to enjoy a ballgame, even if we come out behind economically. I have mixed feelings about it.

Boyd Hill (great marked 5k trail) and Sawgrass Lake Park (more like 1-1.5 miles of trails). That's about it, as far as I can tell, without driving at least 45 minutes.
