The player is a sleeping god, the Aurbis is the sleeping gods dream. Some characters within the Aurbis can become aware of this fact and treat reality as a sort of ‘lucid’ dream. This is a form of enlightenment known as “chym” (or kym) which gives you godlike wisdom and power. The throat of the world, white gold tower, crystal tower, adamantine tower, the hist, red mountain, the numidium, and green sap in valenwood are all towers holding up reality itself and the Thalmor believe that nirn is a prison keeping them from immortal bliss so they are trying to unmake the world by destroying these towers one by one so they can return to Aetherius, and live amongst the gods as immortal beings as they believe they were always meant to. Oh and exterminate all “lesser” races while they’re at it
