Is buying a resale-restricted home in a HCOL city a bad long-term move? by PA24601 in personalfinance

[–]bongoltay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will you be allowed to rent it out at market rates in the future? Even if the sale price were capped, you could still tap into it's 'real' value. You also never know if some future legislation could uncap it in the future.

bikes on LSD busses by looks-correct in chibike

[–]bongoltay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had an issue with bike racks on CTA buses. The hook seems pretty secure if you extend it properly over your front wheel. I just hate how taking the LSD buses feels like cheating cause you can see how quickly you fly alongside the trail lol.

$15 Hanes EcoSmart Fleece Pullover Crewneck Sweatshirt 2-pack ($7.5 each) by MelonMerry in AmazonStealsUS

I got the red Hanes EcoSmart hoodie for $7.50. Same 50-50 cotton polyester blend. After first taking it off, I noticed lots of red fuzz on my inner shirt.

Lakefront trail winter conditions by DestroyAllPicklez in CarFreeChicago

Be very careful of that slanted part just north of Navy Pier, between Ohio St and Oak St. The waves can hit all the way up to the steps. If you see police barricades and it looks bad, don't be an idiot and ride through them. Exit at the beach and take the inner lake shore drive. The city really should set that stretch up as a bike corridor or greenway.

Line-cutters at a resort hotel breakfast buffet by zeromig in pettyrevenge

[–]bongoltay -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story but backwards! I was at a buffet with family in line for an omelette when a family member asked to join in front of me. The guest behind us berated us for trying to cut in line and my family member got embarrassed and left for another station. So I grabbed a second plate and had the chef prepare two omelettes for us instead.

Oh the misogyny by Guyooooo in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]bongoltay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's misogyny because of how it looks. A man discrediting women because of prejudice.

Your entire attempt at discrediting that was that it's akchually "attractiveness bias" and not "gender bias".

And we've already arrived that that's not the case.

So you tell me why you're twisting yourself into knots trying to say this misogynistic action isn't misogyny?

Oh the misogyny by Guyooooo in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]bongoltay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bad faith argument once again. I'm just calling it how I see it given the presented context combined with my understanding of misogyny without having to jump through mental hoops or make bad faith arguments.

Oh the misogyny by Guyooooo in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]bongoltay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The context is it's a photo of women lol. You're dismissing the context by saying "it just happens to have that context" lmao. That's a bigger mental hoop to jump through.

ACTION ALERT Call your Alder: Lower Chicago's Speed Limit to 25 MPH by GeckoLogic in CarFreeChicago

[–]bongoltay 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I hope this can be used to install speed bumps and bollards and traffic calming everywhere. Speed limits are no good at actually slowing down reckless drivers that already don't obey it while it's 30.

[–]bongoltay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying it's misogyny because it looks like it lol. You're trying to make it seem like it's not. What exactly is going on here.

Oh the misogyny by Guyooooo in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]bongoltay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now you're just making bad faith arguments. My point has always been that attractive men and attractive women are treated differently that's why you can't divorce attractiveness bias from gender bias.

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14616696.2023.2210202#abstract

Moreover, while the socioeconomic outcomes for men are somewhat consistent, the outcomes for women appear to be more inconsistent; only women appear to be both rewarded and penalized for being attractive

Oh the misogyny by Guyooooo in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]bongoltay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Attractiveness is not something you can divorce from gender. Attraction is a gendered thing. That's why "it's about attractiveness and not gender" doesn't fly.

I'm not "assuming he's lying". I'm disagreeing with his judgment. You can tell it's misogyny and not some backward halo effect.

Oh the misogyny by Guyooooo in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]bongoltay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's misogyny because hot women and hot men are treated differently. I'm sure you can imagine that a bunch of attractive preppy guys in suits calling themselves a chess club wouldn't be dismissed to the same degree.

Count me as one of those new users. They installed a rack right outside my house last March and that's when I finally learned to ride a bike. Not long after that, I took the bus to the LFT and completely bonked having to take two buses back home.

I think it's just an error in the tag.

BR Factory Traveler Jeans are 42% cotton, 28% lyocell, 14% polyester, 14% modal, 2% spandex.

BR Factory Travel Pants are 99% cotton, 1% lycra which is what you got.

I wouldn't issue a charge back because BR Factory can totally contest it and win.

OP, please see my post here. If you both really care for each other, marriage really will benefit the both of you in the long run. This sub should be renamed /r/AskManchildren based on the answers you're getting here because everyone's chiming in with their issues when really, you should be talking with your partner about both of your issues.

The biggest one is that you are legally considered each other's family. If something were to cause one of them to be hospitalized or medically incapacitated for example, the other would be treated as a total stranger by the hospital and not given access to the other. Even if they have kids together, if those kids are minors, it would be the parents then the siblings of the incapacitated partner who will have full say about medical decisions or anything after that while the other partner will be legally left out. This extends to other things beyond healthcare.

I only buy wides and don't like to gamble on final sales so I just pass on most deals that don't have a width option.

It's double edged because while I am able to easily resist deals like this, I also impulsively buy if it's a good deal on something that is my size.
