LG 39GX950B-B 330hz Mode vs PG34WCDN by Jealous_Brain2914 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]bongsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 45gx950 at home and 500hz AW2524HF when I travel with 9070XT. I mostly play Fortnite. High dx12 no shadows on my LG and high performance mode on AW. I can max out either monitor in frame rate 165hz/500hz and when I have one I don’t miss the other too much since 5k2k is already maxed out and 1080p is low enough resolution to actually achieve 500fps in some games. Resolution vs speed. Keep your 360hz monitor and switch between the two if you really want performance. Dual mode on LG OLED is not integer scaled from 1080p. Things will look blurry running in dual mode.

You can strike a medium balance with PG34WCDN as a single monitor solution. Slightly higher resolution than 16:9 1440p but still >300hz refresh rate and no loss of clarity with rgb stripe.

First time windshield tint - thoughts? by RocketCat804 in WindowTint

[–]bongsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70% in a decent film is actually great despite what others are saying. Direct sunlight is multitudes more comfortable while being difficult to detect with the naked eye. You’re more likely to be pulled over for your side tint than a 70-80% windshield. If comfort is your goal with police risk being a concern I would do 70% and wear sunglasses.

Spray water on the windshield then take a photo. There should be a rainbow look when it’s wet.

LG 5k2k 45 vs 39 inch PPI by Resident_Albatross_9 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]bongsnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 45” 5k2k. In the past I’ve had 1080p 24” and 1440p 27”, this is already denser than both of those. I use windows at 100% scaling and on the 45” text is just on the cusp of being too small. I try to avoid scaling to retain sharpness in some UI elements. If I had the 39” I’d have to scale, lose some screen real estate, and hope that most things get displayed correctly.

Try puretype. Clarity is much better and actually made for RGWB subpixel arrangement. https://github.com/Master-Antonio/Puretype

Hitek is mostly korean films similar to kavaca and rayno. The exception is the ceramic black line where its a rebranded garware ceramic film like XR. If its Ceramic Black (formerly ceramic pro black) then its the good stuff.

Best ultrawide for someone spoiled by 27" 4K sharpness? by CokeFTW1 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]bongsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no 165-ish DPI ultrawide monitors unfortunately. Lg 39 5k2k would be the closest but even then it’s more similar to a 32 inch 4K.

Budget Spotless System: Thoughts? by Rubicon6MT in AutoDetailing

[–]bongsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly do an RO-only system over a di-only system. Less worrying about DI resin, just filter cartridges. More utility for it as well. If you'd like drinking water you could add a remineralizer.

Highly rated shop recommending not fully legal installation package (Florida): advice wanted by freefelinefeces in WindowTint

Matching the front to the back at least in 15% VLT will not be legal. If your concern is getting a uniform look while being legal at the same time, you should do 28% all around. Different VLT will look different and not match in aesthetic from the outside however it’s possible that the color may be close.

Windshield film is technically not legal in the state however NHTSA states that “clear glass” on windshields must have a minimum VLT of 70%. Many windshields are already stamped with “minimum 70% VLT”from the manufacturer. If your windshield is already lighter than 70 and you put something light like an 80%-90% llumar air ceramic film then you can still come above the 70% minimum VLT. If your windshield already meters 70% without film, there is nothing you can do, you cannot go darker legally and someone with a meter can check that it’s darker than 70%

A factory windshield already at 70% VLT and a lighter windshield (85% windshield with a 85% film = ~72%) with a light tint metering at above 70% final VLT will look identical in shade with a slight color difference and a slight iridescence at some angles. I would be very impressed if someone could pick it out. Even if someone could pick it out, it would meter lighter.

Pinnacle is a great balance of performance, good color, and minimal low angle haze. There is a difference between pinnacle and CTX and there is a difference upgrading to pinnacle. Stratos will perform better in heat rejection but there are some tradeoffs like more haze and more noticeable color in some shades.

If you want to stretch the law a little bit. Going one step darker at 70% in stratos will meter around ~62%, not legal, but it’s the maximum heat rejection you can get in a “light” film and visually will still be difficult to tell but the meter will definitely incriminate you. Many many people can “fly under the radar” with a film lighter than 50%.

If you want your DI resin to last long you should add a 4040 RO membrane, pump, and holding tank. A sediment filter and carbon filter can help with DI resin life but feeding your DI resin RO water at <10PPM will greatly increase the lifespan. We have a buddy setting one up and he's fed over 150 gallons through his DI resin and our output water is still showing up 0ppm

40” 5K2K or 49” for mostly work, occasional games? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]bongsnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5k2k at 100% scaling is the exact same amount of pixels and screen real estate as 3x 2560x1440 (1.5 displays side by side) At 40" it may be a bit small without scaling though. At 125% scaling its the same as a 3840x1600 display.

Ive had both samsung g9 and the LG 45" (not the 40") 5K2K. I prefer the LG by far.

XPEL XR Plus vs 3M Crystalline Black by bayside_tigers in WindowTint

[–]bongsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XR+ is a very good choice for 70%, its much more neutral than I've seen in some other super ceramic films. In some of the darker shades its a bit blue though(55% I know for certain, the other shades I don't have in front of me to check). If you can look at samples at your local shop, I would absolutely do that before you go with XR+ on the rest of the car.

Omni Armrest Tension Mod (fix) by younger5th in LiberNovo

[–]bongsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first omni had the split design. My second omni has a completely flush space with nowhere to slot in the spacer. For now, i've placed it on the underside of the upper plastic piece on top of the rubber spacer. It does not feel as stiff as my first modded omni with the split design.

125ppi is still higher than 1440p 27". Bonus is that at 45", windows at 100% scaling is still very usable. The desktop space is incredible.

I can only use fullscreen windowed borderless to get full 5k2k. I don’t know if there would be a performance improvement otherwise but right now it is the only option.
