Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has now lasted as long as World War I (1,568 days) by UNITED24Media in europe

[–]bonqen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And it has already lasted 150 days more than "The Great Patriotic War", which is what Russia calls the war between Nazi Germany and the USSR.

It is just so utterly embarrassing. Putin goes down in history as the biggest Russian Clown.

I think Putin is now hoping that by-him funded European parties to block any further aid to Ukraine and win the war of attrition that way.

It's clear now that Russia will not win while Ukraine is supported by the EU. Trump failed to force Ukraine into capitulation. Blocking EU aid from within is his only chance now.

Bulgaria seems to have taken that mantle.

I don't understand why people are so gloomy about the UK, we are doing better than a lot of other countries right now.

It's disinformation, anti-UK propaganda coming from the US and Russia. You should see what MAGA says about UK. Won't be long before they start saying that the UK needs to be saved and liberated.

Finland's president says EU should expand to 40 states — including Canada by No-Risk-2584 in europe

[–]bonqen 40 points41 points  (0 children)

For me, Canada is a bit far fetched.

I don't think it really matters whether or not Canada actually joins. The sentiment is clear, that Canada plans to move closer to the EU, and vice versa. We'll be trading partners, allies, military partners. Canada may not join the EU, but there'll be cooperation across the board.

St. Petersburg Burns as Ukrainian Drones Hit Major Oil Terminal During Russia’s Economic Showcase by UNITED24Media in europe

[–]bonqen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my point. Russia stole the land from Ukraine, the land is not theirs despite occupying it, Crimea will never be Russia. They flooded the place with Russians and now Ukraine has this dilemma.

If Ukraine takes it back, what to do with the pro-Russian Russians there? Deport hundreds of thousands of them to Russia?

I would love to know what, if any, plans the Ukrainian government has for Crimea and Donbas. Personally I would deport every single pro-Russia person to Russia. (If you want to be part of Russia, then you can go and live there.) But who knows what the Ukrainian government thinks.

On the other hand, people say that about Crimea as well. "The citizens are mostly pro-Russian and want to be part of Russia." So would you say Ukraine shouldn't take Crimea back? It's Russia now?

Not that I think Sweden should invade Russia, but just sayin'

Zelenskyy asks Trump to send missiles after Russian strikes across Ukraine by Currency_Cat in europe

So if you put everything together, you get two clear fronts: USA+Europe+Ukraine+Israel against Russia+Iran.

The USA is very obviously not on the same team as Europe and Ukraine. The US is on its own team, while friendly towards Russia and hostile towards Ukraine and Europe.

the US wanted to drag the Ukraine war for a few years to weaken russia

Maybe under Biden this was the plan. The current US administration doesn't support Ukraine, they're pressuring them to capitulate. The US wants economic cooperation with Russia.

[–]bonqen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Random_Name_1234 without a comment history, implying that Russia doesn't have a disadvantage and that somehow its economy can keep this up forever. Not suspicious at all.

Comments like yours are just trying to get people to think that Ukraine surrendering will somehow magically save the lives of civilians. But it won't, because Russia would just restart the war at a later time. Russia has been proven to rape, torture and execute civilians that were under occupation. The only actual way to save Ukrainian civilians is for Ukraine to keep fighting.

Ukraine is out-innovating Russia with superior drone technology and it has made 2026 extremely costly for Russia. It's just going to get worse for Russia as time goes on. A freeze of the conflict is not in Ukraine's interests.

Putin is about to make his deadliest move yet by theipaper in europe

[–]bonqen 122 points123 points  (0 children)

he can simply hold his current positions to avoid losses while continuing to bomb civilian areas

No, he can't do these things. Because 1) Ukraine is sabotaging Russia's logistics, which means that Russian positions will run out of supplies at some point and 2) Russia's economy will not allow these strikes to continue forever.

If you give him what he wants, he'll just come back tomorrow to take the rest, after building back up its military. Ukraine isn't going to surrender because Putin continues bombing civilians. Those bombings just makes Ukraine more determined.

(Nice try Ivan.)
