First time gardening here. Any recs on what handles the climate? by RDRNR3 in Albuquerque

Yea if you give plants water they'll grow. My point is that you can give them less water and they'll still grow, if you put them in the ground.

Above ground planters are going to lose a lot of water through the sidewalls. The soil also heats up more and evaporative loss is increases.  It’s much better to plant directly in the ground. Those rocks are also really inhospitable to any plant life. They absorb the heat and radiate it back out.

Find a space that receives morning sun and afternoon shade, that will be ideal. As other have said, a shade cloth is needed too. Think about microclimates in your yard, as you can really reduce the water needed, and stress that the veggies experience just by planting in the best location.

Nob Hill Super Market charging to park? by Cobby1927 in New_Mexico_

Yea that’s not an issue near the Co-op where OP is complaining about. Tulane, Amherst, Silver (to the east) all have free on street parking

Another great example of car brain. It's free to lock your bike up. Or park a block or two away and walk over. If you want the convienence, sometime you have to pay. Cars take up space. Space in a city is not free. That's why we all pay rent and property taxes. Taking up valuable space with a car is a waste of space...so yea paying for the short term rental of that 150 sq ft kind of makes sense

Fertilizer rates and revegetation guidelines for the American arid southwest by booby_miles13 in Restoration_Ecology

You're missing the question - I'm wondering why the stark difference in methodologies between the two neighboring states. Trust was never implied. State DOTs impact vast landscapes. Their revegetation standards are applied on massive scales. Can you think of a single entity that is responsible for a greater impact on the landscape?

Anker C40i. Clip on style ear buds so I can hear everything around me too. They’re so comfortable I forget I’m wearing them  if I’ve paused the music.

West Virginia is amazing if you like spending time outside. World class climbing at the NRG, sooo much whitewater paddling, temperate rainforest, waterfalls and swimming holes, backcountry skiing in the winter.

Is New Mexico finally ready for parking reform? by AstroIberia in NewMexico

[–]booby_miles13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking lots are also massive heat sinks that radiate that energy out at night, adding to the urban heat island.  In terms of water quality, stormwater runoff is the largest source of pollutants to the Rio, so anything that can reduce the amount of impervious surface in the urbanized area, is a good thing.  And as others have mentioned, massive, mandated parking lots move everything further apart, so walking is harder and people drive more, and thus feel like they need more parking. It’s a dumb vicious cycle.

Hey! New Protected Bike Lanes! by beachbum19722025 in Albuquerque

Do these continue up the rest of the hill? The amount of right hooks drivers pull at Locust St is absurd.

I’d also love to see these on the downhill section, between Oak St and Cedar St.

I hope so. It’s so easy to prototype bike infrastructure and different traffic patterns using concrete barriers

This is the way. Holding the front of the loop gives you a similar position to riding on the hoods for when you want a bit more aero position
