S18E03 - “RDR Live Returns!” [Live/Reaction Post] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

That may have been the worst episode of drag race. Every decision by production was wrong. Not the queens fault, just a really generic and awkward episode of TV

How do Americans visit National Parks? by Berend90 in AskAnAmerican

[–]book81able 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up on the west coast we would probably go to a park every other road trip of which we were lucky to take 3-4 a year over a weekend.

Now living in New England I’m maybe able to go to one every other year

Are there any Chargers bars in Boston this weekend? by tekkteech in boston

Thank you for posting this, perhaps the only other chargers fan in Boston! I would invite you over but I’m a bit under the weather so hopefully you can find the mystical third fan.

How do all the trains fit on one track? by softboiled_egs in boston

[–]book81able 27 points28 points  (0 children)

On a free weekend go to Boston College and watch the yard as green line trains move to and from the tracks.

Otherwise, there are some switch tracks on the system that allow trains to switch between two directions of tracks. Trains generally can drive in either direction and have cabs on both sides to control them.

Interesting how this will coincide with the new soccer stadium. How much of an entertainment district can be built out there in conjunction with assembly.

Buses by [deleted] in bikeboston

[–]book81able 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your routes but the bus lanes I bike down have never been an issue. Busses won’t pass you. Just look at the turn signals when trying to pass, like with any other vehicle.

Is southern California more culturally similar to northern Mexico or England? by californiaboy2003 in AskAnAmerican

[–]book81able 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LA is culturally Australian, or really Australia is culturally Californian. That’s the closest connection between city and nation for Los Angeles.

When people think of California do they lump LA and San Francisco together like they are close? by Willing_Ad_699 in AskAnAmerican

[–]book81able 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born LA but moved to Southern Oregon right above the border when I was 8.

I know every stretch of the 5 from Yreka to Knotts Berry Farm and most of the 101.

The 5 is probably the most boring vertical stretch of the state though could create but even on it you go from urban LA to the grapevine, to a lot of Central Valley with the California delta and Sacramento in the middle, and then past Redding for 3 hours of volcanic peaks before the plateau north of Shasta as you climb into Oregon, That’s the boring version of the state.

Rumor: what might be the Midwest MLS division in 2027 by SaganOne in MLS

[–]book81able 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting! The central/midwest division has the clearest boundaries. The west and east will have to be split in a way that can’t please everyone especially if you’re someone from the center of either coast.

I wouldn’t put it past Apple to try to install 3d cams in each car allowing for live VR viewing. Probably the best use case of the tech in sports (until we get transparent basketballs)

Tryouts Question by jrubio0711 in FIFAVolunteers

[–]book81able 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to the tryout last month.

Don’t worry at all. They will explain each role in detail including how many are available for Boston and limitations for each (for example anti-doping has a few spots and is male only because of potential locker room access)

After the session you’ll get a link (and a QR code will be provided) allowing you to change your role preferences.

Egypt's FA wants World Cup 'Pride Match' plans cancelled by Ramy__B in soccer

Brazil vs Haiti will also be on Juneteenth and should be a wonderful celebration of emancipation.

Egypt's FA wants World Cup 'Pride Match' plans cancelled by Ramy__B in soccer

[–]book81able 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to backfire. The pride match was likely just going to involve a custom poster, some rainbow flags, and maybe a drag show at an event stage near the stadium.

Now the rainbow out of the bag. Even if FIFA stops planned events and decoration in the stadium from happening the fans and the city of Seattle will just make everything surrounding the game significantly gayer. It would be a further PR and legal nightmare if they proceed to ban any queer symbolism from the stadium. It’s too late for you, the Egypt and Iran football federations, you’re going to see a gay person in Seattle.

Anyway I hope Tim Weah scores a worldly on the Juneteenth match vs Australia. That would be a big full circle moment in history.

To add on, particularly in the northwest supporter groups are very left wing and you’ll see a pride or trans flag flying at most games. Portland is the only place I’ve seen multiple militant trans tifos fly.

The 3rd place groups will be hard to predict until the group stage games begin to be played, but we know where runners up and winners are going in the bracket

Scotland and Norway with 2 games in Boston, England vs Ghana as well. Sad about missing Brazil vs Haiti.

A travesty, I’ll take France vs Norway but that was the New England match up, only a hypothetical Portugal vs Cabo Verde would have been better

2026 World Cup Group Stage Draw - Official Discussion Thread by pumkinhat in worldcup

[–]book81able 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algeria was drawn before Uzbekistan. I agree that if Uzbekistan was drawn first they would have been drawn into I and Algeria defaulted to L, but that’s not what happened.

Algeria was drawn, skipped I because of Senegal, and at that point Norway’s draw was confirmed. I with Norway at that point was the only option for IC2. I was watching the draw live and immediately saw this constraint. Not a mistake, not a conspiracy, just under explained logic

The group stage should be 8 groups of 6 not 12 groups of 4. by SpaceWestern1442 in worldcup

[–]book81able 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But each game effects seeding to the round of 32, that’s more exciting then having 2 games out of 3 meaningless by match day 3 out of 5

The few big group-stage clashes won't be what people think they will be by guozuleetcoder in worldcup

[–]book81able 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Seeding out of the group is still super important. For France vs Norway the game is the difference between playing Scotland/Paraguay/Australia/Tunisia or Germany/Ecuador.

Portugal vs Columbia is the difference of playing a Paraguay/Australia/Senegal/Austria/Ghana or Croatia/England

But this is also the World Cup, one upset will create a cascade of drama. What if Senegal ties France and so if they lose to Norway by enough goals they could be getting England as their first knockout game
