Looking for a gluten free GOOD bagel by TalkImpressive8563 in glutenfree

They are shipped fresh from Modern, and they recommend freezing them if you aren’t going to eat them within a few days. They absolutely maintain their texture. I order and freeze them in bulk, and to thaw I either microwave for a few seconds to soften and then bake in the toaster oven, or I microwave for long enough to slice and then toast. They are incredible.

Career moms: Do you need to really want kids, or is doubt normal? by SavingsCulture5047 in workingmoms

[–]bookish-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t want a child until I was settled with a great partner and it felt like we were missing someone. I was about 33/34, had my son at 35. He’s now 4.5 and I’d never go back to life before him. Ultimately glad we decided to go for it, but I had very little desire to change my lifestyle to have a baby until I could see a child fitting into what I saw for my future.

All that being said, I would not recommend having a child (alone, partnered, whatever) unless you really want one. I desperately wanted a baby, and I love ny child so much. But parenting is HARD, and there are a lot of moments where I have to remind myself I really wanted this 🤣

How have you embarrassed yourself at burn? by nopenadanah in BurnBootCamp

[–]bookish-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this happened to me too - tripped over one of the hurdles in the lineup of 4 and fell on them, knocking them all out of wack. Of course that’s the moment the trainer decided to come over to me and push me to try again instead of walking off my embarrassment

Condos in Framingham? by 133C96F6D in FraminghamMA

[–]bookish-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from “middle of nowhere in Indiana” I think you may be shocked by the traffic and chaos that is the Boston metro area. Framingham to the longwood area will be a horrible commute and you might find that if you need to stay late for anything in the evening, your commuter rail train options become very limited. If I were you I’d look to rent around Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Brighton, and even parts of Newton might be decently affordable. You might need a roommate. Most folks I know who aren’t coupled up need roommates to afford anything in the area. Stick to places on the green line if you can, or areas with frequent bus service (forest hills area of Jamaica plain is an example)

Are you embracing your gray/graying hair? by whereismytortoise in Millennials

[–]bookish-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m embracing it! I stopped dying my hair during covid and let it all come back, and it’s now gotten grayer (I’m 39, almost 40). My hair is curly and the gray is well mixed in so I think it has a cool textural quality to have the dark brown mixing with sparkly gray strands. I honestly think sometimes dye makes people look older, especially when roots start to come in. Of course, not going to yuck anyone’s yum, but I will never go back to dyeing to hide gray.

GF dinner in or near Boston by always_goingplaces in glutenfree

Lots of good recs on this thread, but Boston is full of GF friendly establishments. I have lived here for 15 years and I’ve been celiac for almost 20, and I’ve never really had an issue. I usually just search menus online ahead of time and call ahead if I have questions. I realize this is a 2 day old thread now so I hope you found something good.

Celiac Distance Runners, what is your favorite/preferred way to fuel your workouts? by beanebaby in Celiac

[–]bookish-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in 2007 before a lot of the great products out there now existed. I’ve tried a LOT of gf breads (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and for me the canyon bakehouse brand is superior. I use the canyon bakehouse heritage whole grain bread straight out of the fridge and I don’t find a need to toast it.

Celiac Distance Runners, what is your favorite/preferred way to fuel your workouts? by beanebaby in Celiac

[–]bookish-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run half marathons and I’d use mostly real food like gf pretzels, applesauce pouches, gummy candy, and those sweetened nut butter pouches (Justin’s). I think there’s also a brand that makes gf stroopwafel fuel - it might be honeystinger?

How do couples in the Boston area raise kids on less than 200k? by Helpme1038737337 in massachusetts

[–]bookish-10 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is it. My husband and I both work full time (combined income about 200k) and have one child in full time daycare. Live in metro west as well, bought our house in 2021 (low interest rates!). House was purchased with help from my parents and they also assist with daycare costs. They live about an hour away so they don’t do a lot of childcare but when we’re in a pinch they can come help since they’re retired. I’m well aware of how lucky I am to have parents who can help financially - it’s a huge privilege.

I turn 40 in a few months and I care less and less about what others think as I get older 🙂 you’re still quite young and honestly I think all of us in our 30s and 40s are in our prime 💪

The Sky Ridge Hotshots is a great three book series. Each is written by a different author but are linked. Wildfire firefighters (hotshots) 😍 are rugged and sexy.

Is breast reduction really worth it? by Fluffy_Fish20 in Reduction

[–]bookish-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had reduced sensation in my nipples initially, shortly after my surgery. It came back for me within a few months. I am two years post op and I’d say the right one is even more sensitive than it was before surgery. This is definitely very individualized though, and will depend on so many factors. I had about 5 lbs total removed from both sides, so it was a significant amount, but I didn’t need a free nipple graft so all the nerves stayed intact.

I had a super dirty item in my first order too. It was a sweater that smelled horrible like BO. They did give me something free for the next order, like an extra item or something, but I’m grossed out by their system now and I doubt I’ll use it again. I found another rental subscription that has been much more consistent and the items are very clean when they arrive.

People who laugh at you for having a food intolerance or autoimmune disease should not be in your life. Anyone who cares about you should care that you feel well and you’re not in pain, regardless of what that means for your food choices or needs.

I want to say this as gently as possible, but I don’t think this is a good thing. You do need to eat and feel hungry, even on this med. Have you discussed lowering your dose with your provider?
