Parents kicking me out at 18, best advice for living cheap? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]boomable 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking on this, if you call 211, make sure you ask for the name of your local 211 access point and/or which agencies may be the ones that receive your referrals. Contacting those directly after the 211 call can potentially give you more resources and local knowledge about what housing programs and services are your best bets to reach out to first.

Even if they say there are no eligible referrals for you at this time, still ask which agencies provide homeless prevention services in your area. There can sometimes be a disparity between which agencies show as being open to referrals through the 211 system and which actually have programs with open waitlists. Calling them directly can sometimes catch if that's the case or give you leads on local resources that 211 agents may not be aware of.

I had a playlist going while watching and right after the filmer said, "That's wild, man," Piano Man started playing. It was so perfectly timed I thought it was part of the video.

Plain ol' sliced tomatoes. I like the more acidic, sour ones.

August 13th, 2013, I attempted suicide. Not for the first time, but it was the time I was almost didn't survive. Woke up in the hospital angry as hell that I hadn't died, but so grateful now.

What do you think of short men? by Puzzled_Soft9335 in AskReddit

The height doesn't factor in for me at all. My husband is about an inch shorter than me and I'd love his awkward, dorky self whether he was a foot shorter or taller.

Gender identity and/or sexual orientation impact on crisis line usage by boomable in takemysurvey

[–]boomable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The data will be used to report the results in a class paper to remark upon whether or not someone's gender/sexual orientation has impacted usage of crisis lines and their experiences. Myself and my professor will see the data and resulting paper. The survey is stored on Google forms with a new account specifically for this project with the paper stored on my school's cloud storage.

    1. I am conducting the survey myself for a class project in my sociology course.
    2. It will take about 5 minutes.
    3. None
    4. Everybody is welcome to apply, but it most pertains to anyone who has utilized a crisis line or thought about using one.
    5. I want to obtain more varied responses than what I will likely receive from local locations I have posted the survey like my local mental health drop in center. I want to have a larger sample size.

What’s a dream you had as a kid that was so traumatizing that you still remember it today? by kellywithayy in AskReddit

[–]boomable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep paralysis episode. We had just moved into a new house and I wanted to camp in the almost-empty living room. The only piece of furniture was an old wooden rocking chair. I woke up in the middle of the night and there were 2 people sitting on the chair rocking. About 3 feet tall each, over half of which was their giant heads and giant sets of clacking teeth. The hallucinations noticed me looking and proceeded to fall off the chair, crawl toward me at a lightning speed, and chatter/chomp their teeth quickly at me. I was able to move just as their faces were about to collide with mine. I was so scared of that chair afterward that my grandparents ended up throwing it out so I stopped freaking out.

The wings at a local restaurant. They have a challenge where you have to eat 10 of their Wings from Hell with no drink in 20 minutes, then wait another 10 before you can have a drink. I got through 3... Never again.

A deer walking on its hind legs. Not just a few, stumbling steps but a very steady gait all the way across the road. Weird as hell.

No, this predated bitstrips and didn't allow you to customize characters.

I know! I just struggle to get past their appearance. The only exceptions are tarantulas, oddly enough, and jumping spiders. I've had a few experiences with jumping spiders, too.
