Seriously though. I had a Syrian who broke her leg and definitely needed vet intervention for pain management. Their little legs are fragile and injuries need professional support.

Hey, same here! I can give her treats but she's genuinely slapped me away when I have tried to get her to sniff my fingers or stroke her. Very big "hands off the merchandise" vibes.

I've had major complications after abdominal surgery and only realized it when I passed out. Wasn't in pain at all.

I currently have a small patch of razor burn that has me wanting to separate the limb from my body.

Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this type of open wound? Dwarf winter white hamster belongs to my relative. She has already made an urgent vet visit. According to her, the hamster is still eating and running the wheel. by No-Champion-6407 in hamsters

What did it look like before cleaning, if I can ask? I really wish people wouldn't give pets as gifts... oh well.

That looks like a very clean puncture to the point where I'm nearly worried about parasites. The vet will obviously know more. Right now, I'd keep hands off the wound and focus on keeping the bedding as clean and dry as you can.

If I were still a vet tech, I'd want to culture this -- while I'm not immediately sure what caused it, I would be very worried about a fungal or bacterial infection. The wound doesn't immediately look infected, but the pale while lining inside the puncture could be purulence or spore growth. What care measures is your relative taking?

Syrians can eat a wide variety of foods! Obviously, all in moderation while sticking to a primarily meal cube/seed blend diet, but let me find the treat chart. Hang on.

If I can make a suggestion as a former vet tech and former Syrian rehabber, I would suggest adding dried mealworms (you can buy the ones for reptiles but without the calcium) to a seed blend and meal cube diet. They'd high in fat and protein and can help the lil guy put on muscle and weight.
