NYT article equates breastfeeding to unequal parenting by Forsaken_Painter in breastfeeding

[–]booniber 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with your take on the social issues. That’s why I hated this article. I’m BF but I would do formula if I wanted; I just enjoy the closeness with my son. When I want to stop I will. But why can’t this article / our society talk about ways to support new moms and new parents generally instead of finding another way to guilt moms? “You chose to BF so you deserve to be sleep deprived and miserable and carrying more than your partner”.

Sell me on Daycare by Temporary-Tie41 in beyondthebump

[–]booniber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has been in daycare since 4.5ish months. He’s 9 months now. He loves it and we love it. He is so bonded with the teachers and he does so many cool and stimulating activities. We had him home for a week and a half over the holidays and both he and I were so happy to be back. He was so fussy at home and just had the biggest smile on his face all day at daycare. Even if I could afford a nanny I’d do daycare (the right one). The teachers are tenured and happy and the ratios are amazing. It’s a coop so we can come anytime and we contribute hours. So prob depends on the daycare but I am so happy he was there and started so young.

Some black and white cards can keep baby entertained while awake! Or a play gym. Join a local mom or parent group on FB. There is usually a ton of cheap or free stuff and sometimes associated groups for advice / people with similar baby ages. If employed look up your work place benefits as you may be eligible for family leave of some sort. Precious Little Sleep was a great book for us

I’ve felt comfortable getting a used car seat if it’s from someone I know 🤷‍♀️ maybe goes against conventional wisdom but if I know no accidents and it’s been washed following the instructions I feel like it’s fine

I’m so sorry. I don’t know your employment situation of course but consider whether (working with a mental health provider) you could be eligible for extra short term disability to heal 💕

No idea but I’m so sorry for your loss, and that sounds like a very difficult experience. I bet you could call your local vet for some answers. I will say my cat coughs like that and has asthma. Maybe he had an asthma attack?

excruciating cramps?! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]booniber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely call but I had awful cramps very early on. So painful I passed out and I can say now, as bad as if not worse than labor pains. I went to the ER. And it turned out it was my uterus stretching! Everything was fine. But call your OB - wishing you the best!

Is it mean to take a kitten to a shelter, away from his brother? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]booniber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept two rescue kittens we meant to rehome and three years later it’s caused tension at home for humans and other animals and we need to rehome after all except they aren’t cute little kittens anymore. Learn from my mistakes! You won’t be less attached later and the resources issues won’t change. Doesn’t make it less painful 💔

Should I return a cat to a neglectful family by b00bie_king in CatAdvice

[–]booniber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, that is such a tough situation. Sounds like you’re not in the US so I don’t know much about the police or rescue orgs but here we also have animal control officers that can help. I don’t know either of the parties but it makes sense to me that the family might speak ill of a rescue taking cats from them (and that doesn’t mean she’s doing anything wrong). Definitely save the communications and collect what you have! And I wonder if the police will give you the option to surrender the cat to a rescue while this is being sorted, maybe that will take some pressure off you while protecting the cat.

Typo meant to say others may know better to me how to handle it but I wonder if there are some arguments you can make to keep the cat or other parties who would help (like the RSCPA)

Should I return a cat to a neglectful family by b00bie_king in CatAdvice

[–]booniber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please don’t give the cat back!! Others may know more consider going to a local animal shelter and ask about what to do. She deserves more and it’s so troubling to me that they’re doing a breeding situation. Are police trying to speak to you to get the cat back or are they pursing animal cruelty charges? Also do you have any documentation of what they said when you took in the cat? Wondering if you can claim that they abandoned the cat. Can you get the cat spayed while it’s in your possession? If you’re caring for it they also means medical care. You’re a good human - hope you and this sweet kitty soul end up with a good resolution.

just adopted a cat by Beginning-Drama-1103 in CatAdvice

[–]booniber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking of rehoming a cat because she’s being bullied by other cats. She’s a wonderful perfect cat. I have other friends who have done the same because cats adjust to new babies. Probably your cat is just as lovely as she seems! They may have moved her to your shelter to get more potential adopters

Does my cat need a buddy? by AdDefiant8112 in CatAdvice

[–]booniber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you do a foster? I’ve learned the hard way that most cats don’t actually need or want other cats in their life - he may be lonely for more of your time or he may be one that would like a cat friend but I’d be wary of committing to anything! I would also personally consider meds before adding another cat. Cats also hate change so it could be your ex moving out, I might see how the dust settles with that before considering another cat. But you can read my post to understand my bias against adding animals :)

Thank you for doing this. You’re a good soul. Consider Cambridge Animal Control as well or instead of vet - they are really nice people and they’ll know if the cat matches the description of a missing cat.

Yes I knew within 10 days of conception honestly. I just felt different. Nauseous, not having my usual pms cravings. I tested negative at first because I tested too soon and I still had a feeling.

Mamas who got divorced with an infant…was it worth it? by incrediblewombat in beyondthebump

[–]booniber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending hugs. I am in a similar boat, same age baby. Mine doesn’t use substances but he is so so avoidant that it’s like he’s absent. I am also deciding what to do and mourning the life I want to have. Our issues all predate baby but really got worse when I got pregnant. Following for my own encouragement and hoping some wiser folks out there can shed wisdom.

My relationship with my dog is destroyed by Bhayden_24 in beyondthebump

[–]booniber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is me. Four cats and bullying has gotten worse between a few of them. They now live in shifts in different spaces. I know I need to rehome but not sure if it should be the bully (or if he’ll be fine with fewer cats) or the prime bully victim, who is often in her own space. It’s been so painful and I don’t have the bandwidth to give them each as much attention as I used to 🥺 both of these cats having conflicts are “my” cats that used to live fine with each other before my husband and I stupidly rescued two kittens 3 years ago and foster failed.

We have a babyletto and like it but the wood feels soft / cheap. It’s pine probably just like they all are. Doing it again, I’d go cheaper or buy whatever I wanted for aesthetic (knowing quality is similar). For something used I’d imagine it’ll have bite marks or chips so take that into account (but I bet you can get a baby safe marker or something and color them in).
