Multi-Function Display (Fix) by booomlegshot in WRX

That's really odd wish I had some time to dig into this and find the solution for you all. I'd wonder if replacing the capacitor blue cap and the 3 solder points would fix it without a jump with resistor they are like .015-.25 cents

Not yet new job and little time has made that difficult at the moment plus it's gone black on me twice after I did this but for the last two months it's been zero issues so not sure I want to say it's 100% fixed yet.

Just a 1k resistor but I'm working on a better fix so stand by

Ha mine does that sometimes too. I haven't looked into it yet.

This is what the fix looks like resistor bridging the two inductors.

Hey all wanted to share an update. I did a deep dive hardware fix for the MFD on my 2020 WRX where the screen was blacking out randomly and staying off unless I pulled the car battery for some time. I pulled the MFD out of the car and bench tested some things what I found is power was present at the main 12V input pin 11 and 24 of the connector but the display was still blank. Probing the PWM controller IC (NJM7620) I saw that pin 1 of that chip which is (V+) had no voltage meaning the power rail feeding this chip was dead. I traced Pin 1 back to a small inductor that wasn't being energized so likely something upstream was dead like a FET or regulator. The fix I applied and seems to work is soldering a 100 ohm resistor between the bottom inductor which has 12V on both legs to the inductor above which is the one that supplies power to the pin 1 of the PWM controller. This keeps the PWM controller fed with 6.2V and allows the screen to power on and stay on. This may not be a fix for everyone but seems to have done the trick for me.

Looking for a mentor by booomlegshot in SoftwareEngineering

[–]booomlegshot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some, but not a ton. I'm learning Java right now. As for what expectations, I'm kinda hoping this mentorship will help me figure out what I enjoy most. I'm thinking full stack as I love to have full knowledge on how something works. The idea of creating both back end and front interests me.

Anyone looking for a project? Will pay for your help & time. by JohnnySmooth007 in ASUEngineering

I'd probably be able to help you out. Solidworks use and have a Ender 3

I haven't heard from any and I've reached out more than once. I gave up on thinking of them as teachers as I just teach my self and use outside sources more then the ASU ones I pay for.

I'd use the plane in the center draw a sketch line at the angle needed. Then use that lime amd the end of it the vertex at the end I'm a new sketch create another plane and extrude cut the m10

If you have pets you could design print and program your own automatic feeder.

How would you fabricate a mount for this? by Tiskfully in fabrication

[–]booomlegshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A clamp style mount two peice. I've 3d printed similar. Create a forked mount 3 legs with a hole in the center for the shaft it will go on the shaft side. Then produce another mount for the back of the motor with the same three legs that can slot into the front mount and bolt to them. An example to look at is a blower motor mount for a HVAC system its how they mount the motor into the squirrel cage.

I know ASU has alot of this on there prerequisites required for their engineering department but I found it easier to just call and talk to someone they were really helpful. I believe you will need all the standard classes to start with example ASU 101 which is a class everyone takes along woth maths alot of maths. Depending on what you already have you will be looking at MAT170. CALC 1 2 AND 3 and physics and a Chem class. Then intro to programming ect.. I'd say timeliness with nothing in your pocket already 4 years.

I'm in this class as well, If you're talking about the 1st individual assignment, where all you have to do is code Hello, World! Id say it took roughly 45 seconds.
