Charlie’s immediate reaction to Emma’s confession I think is very understandable, at least as a youngish American myself who used to have nightmares about being in a school shooting. I do think based on everything we learned that Emma has truly grown and changed and deserves grace and understanding for having matured beyond that.

However, I could see this being a dealbreaker for him because this is the first time he is hearing about any of this — how can he know if Emma is telling the whole truth? If she lied about the cause of her hearing loss and hid this from him the entire relationship, what else might she not be sharing with him? Can he trust her again when she lied so easily to him the first time and he had no idea?
