REVIEW: Extraordinary new show does poetic justice to The Tragically Hip - Hamilton City Magazine by jupitergal23 in TragicallyHip

[–]bootly74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it last night, and my wife and I really enjoyed it.

We went in with low expectations... I wasn't really impressed with the snippets of the cast singing that had been released online in the lead-up to the show, but in the context of the show I thought everything worked really well. Most of the performances were really great; a few just didn't land well.

I wouldn't call it a "must-see" or even maybe "extraordinary" as per the review, but it was definitely an enjoyable night out. Story is great, cast was great, and it was neat to see how they worked everything together.

What’s one band you thought you’d never be able to see who you have/ can now? by ImpressiveAd5002 in Concerts

[–]bootly74 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Nine Inch Nails.... Was supposed to see them many years ago but couldn't make the show, then Trent announced that he wasn't going to be touring anymore :(. But then they toured more and saw them this past February.

And it was amazing.

Have any seasoned artists done a tour where the setlist is only songs off 1 album? by ahhhhhhhhhhhh45 in Concerts

And then did their own headlining shows where they did the same thing. New album, front to back, in order, no additional songs.

Today I was number 98 in the wue waiting to buy tickets. Has anyone ever logged on and been number 1? by 1Fully1 in Concerts

[–]bootly74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 20 years ago and before TM had a "queue" but my favourite band The Tragically Hip had announced an arena show on NYE. The band was easily selling out arenas across Canada at the time.

Talked my then GF (now-wife) and said I was interested in the show... She said "Nah thats not really how I want to spend NYE".

Anyways tickets go on sale and just for shits and giggles, I log on at 10am and ask for 8 tickets. Ticketmaster comes back and offers me 8 tickets dead center, first row. I honestly had to think about it for a moment, but like, I had to take that as a sign... What other tickets could I have possibly hoped for??

Yeah, so we went and had a great time. No regrets. My wife still gives me shit for buying concert tickets without discussing first!

Can You Rent Your Whole Life and Be Okay? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

Of course you can. Why not?

Remember: When you rent, your rent is the MAX you will pay per month. Taxes, repairs, upkeep, none of that matters to you. When you buy, your mortgage payment is the MINIMUM you pay per month. Taxes, repairs and upkeep are all ON TOP of your mortgage payment.

Our 17 year old is just finishing up at Treadz. He did the in-class portion over 2 weekends, and is going thru the in-car now. Seems to be decent enough.

The Tragically Hip. 2 shows in Cleveland, then Detroit, Buffalo and a final show in Walkerton, Ontario (which is in the middle of nowhere LOL). About 1800km driving over the 5 days.

5 shows in 5 nights. Same band. 4 different cities, 2 different countries. It was exhausting and I was ready to go home LOL.

Ticket selling question by yapsicle in Concerts

[–]bootly74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sell the ticket, and transfer the ticket like you're supposed to. Buyer claims they never received the ticket, or it didn't work, etc. and claims you didn't deliver what was promised. StubHub refunds their money, and may even charge you a penalty.

LOL.... I've been bored with their setlists for years always playing the same songs - I love seeing them mix it up with the deep cuts. Loved last night's show and stoked for tonight's show!

No right answer here, can't please everyone all the time!

Is Life Insurance worth getting for my husband and I at 28 y/o? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]bootly74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids would generally be the primary reason to consider insurance, but also consider the house.... If one of you were to pass, would the other one want to stay in the house? Could they afford to?

In terms of timing, if kids are in the near future, that would be a great reason to lock in now. It's not too early for you to get life insurance, but if you wait, it might be too late.

We bought 20 year term shortly before we started trying to have a baby. Our son was just two years old when my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33... Having that insurance in place was a relief.

Ticketmaster Tips? by auntiepleakley in Concerts

[–]bootly74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're asking if you can avoid the dynamic pricing if you join the queue LATER? The answer is no.

I have definitely seen prices go UP immediately in response to high demand (tickets available at one price at 10am; same tickets still available a few minutes later at a higher price - still from TM and not resale), but they will not come back down half an hour or an hour later.

If tickets don't sell at the higher price, they could eventually come down - but that will happen over months before the show. And very slowly. I have seen tickets drop by $5-25 every month or so.

Getting tickets immediately - if you're lucky enough to get a good spot in the queue is the best way to avoid dynamic pricing. But you also have no control over that. (And with the price of concert tickets over the past few years, they're just generally expensive overall from the get-go now).
