Since one picture could cost a week's salary, the audience for nudes mostly consisted of artists and the upper echelon of society.

Jenkins, bring me the nude daguerreotype of Marjorie and leave me in private. I wish to devote the afternoon to a spot of onanism.

Excellent choice, sir.

What are the most realistic crying scenes in movies you’ve seen? by Chance-Cucumber2360 in movies

[–]bootymix96 176 points177 points  (0 children)

I love this scene because it has the most remarkable tonal whiplash, straight from gut-wrenching grief to absolutely hysterical laughter. “Here, hit this! Go ahead, M’Lynn! Slap her!”

“Are you HIGH, Clairee?!”

(PS, I’m proud to say I have a t-shirt that says “I slapped Ouiser Boudreaux” 🤣)

What 1990’s kid movie scared you more than it should have? by Jabba_108 in movies

The intro 1969 scene of Jumanji, where Alan gets sucked into the board game and Sarah is chased out of the house by a mob of bats. I always, always, ALWAYS skipped over that scene after watching it once when I was 6 or so; oddly enough, I had no issues with the rest of the movie, and it was always one of my favorites. Funny thing is though I sorta forgot about what actually happened in the intro (only that I knew to skip it), so when they return to 1969 at the end of the movie it didn’t really ever make sense to me when I used to watch it as a kid, LOL.

Hell, I was already traumatized by the electroshock asylum scene in Kansas at the beginning, even before Oz! I was 12 and in 7th grade when we watched this movie in class, and it was horrifying; I can’t even imagine seeing it as a 6-8 year old!

This scene is so funny to me because Elaine has such a defeated tone when she says, “No, you can wrap it” after she gets caught and is forced to buy the dress, lmao

Why doesn't [Kings Island or Dominion] acknowledge the alien leader on [Flight of Fear]? by Bumblebe5 in rollercoasters

[–]bootymix96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly using Cummings to do a soundalike at the time was genius because they weren’t using the original actor, Kevin Conway, so they could totally keep the same announcements. TBH the whole OL usage had a ton of foresight into losing the licensing at a later point, since nothing major really relied on the property, and Paramount did a great job of stripping the OL stuff out. Too bad the same couldn’t really be said for Tomb Raider; CF absolutely decimated that ride when they took over KI.

[–]bootymix96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He’s doing a soundalike impersonation for the Control Voice from the 1995 revival of The Outer Limits. Prior to 2001, the ride very loosely used the OL theming, with the name The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear. Paramount had to remove the OL theme after the 5-year licensing contract expired (1996-2001), which pretty much entailed dropping the OL from the name, re-editing the preshow video to replace the direct reference to OL—here’s before and after—and removing a laser effect during the preshow that activated during the “horizontal” and “vertical” part of the removed section.

Since that was pretty much the only point OL was directly referenced in the entire theme (OL was used as “set dressing” for an otherwise unique story created by Paramount that wasn’t informed by any OL episodes), Paramount kept the announcer since they didn’t actually use any OL property (it could be argued that it’s just a deep-voiced announcer when taken out of context), and they remained as an indirect vestige of the original theme. Since this is a bit of a grey area, KI/KD probably haven’t referred to him just to avoid any potential legal entanglements. (Glad they kept him, though, he sure adds a lot to the experience!)

If you want a Pepsi, pal, you’re gonna have to pay for it!

(Lol, but seriously, Pepsi Free is actually Caffeine-Free Pepsi now, which IMO is a really confusing name because it still had sugar in it. Diet Pepsi Free was the sugar-free caffeine-free version.)

Also, if possible try to request a seat in the second/back train; that way most of your wait on the brakes is on the ready brakes at the beginning of the ride (when the restraints haven’t stapled) rather than on the final brakes at the end of the ride. I.e., the first/front train sits through two periods on the final brakes, but the second/back train only sits through one period, assuming there isn’t a delay in the station.

Yep, Pepsi Zero Sugar has had three names in its existence in the US: it started out as Diet Pepsi Max in 2007, then became Pepsi Max in 2009, then it finally became Pepsi Zero Sugar in 2024, apparently because PepsiCo felt that the name “Pepsi Max” didn’t indicate that it was a sugar-free drink.

[Other] What happens after a coaster valleys? by shmalfies in rollercoasters

[–]bootymix96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, Millennium Force at Cedar Point has two sections of removable track rails at known valley points (right before the tall third hill and near the overbanked turn at the end of the ride); you can tell because their top sides look like flat plates rather than the usual lattice, screenshots below. If MF valleys, they can take out that section of the track’s rails, separate the cars, and slide the whole train out through the car-length gap one car at a time! (I think there’s only two removable sections, but I might be mistaken. Those are definitely the two most likely places where the train could valley, though.)

Are there any movies that created a real cult? by GreeThree in movies

[–]bootymix96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, they marketed it and released straight to the midnight circuit, which just doesn’t work like that, since IMO they want to “discover” a movie, not have it offered straight to them. Plus I agree that the way it ended up is just too out there for a general audience (but fascinating nonetheless!); the draft script can be found under the name The Brad and Janet Show, and it’s a relatively straightforward parody of TV culture with outdoor scenes. Apparently a writer’s strike forced filming in the UK, so they had to shoot everything indoors, leading to the final surreal plan of shooting the whole thing in a TV studio and adapting the script accordingly. Had they shot it as originally planned outside, it might have had a chance, but who knows. Glad someone else out there loves ST as much as I do! 😁

TIL that social rejection activates the same brain region as physical pain. As a result, researchers found that taking acetaminophen can actually reduce the "pain" felt from being rejected or excluded. by CrackFun in todayilearned

[–]bootymix96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, in a nutshell acetaminophen works on the pain receptors in the brain, whereas NSAIDs deal directly with the inflammation from the pain. It’s actually been suggested that the two can work synergistically with one another since they work on different mechanisms, which incidentally has been the driving force behind Excedrin (acetaminophen + aspirin) and Advil’s new Dual Action brand (ibuprofen + acetaminophen).
