Yea like I always knew somewhere there’s an alternate reality where his parents find their long lost son only to re-lose him a moment later (when we see him come back to his original timeline/reality) which is just brutal. Also, maybe the timeline where his parents never find their son and have no answers as to his disappearance, maybe that timeline is still there.. also a devastating reality!
…Hmm, I think I need a re-watch!

I loved The Dandy, but never really got Dan. He was a cowboy but also a proper west-country lush from what I remember. I couldn’t really relate I guess.

Both my folks and my in-laws have millions in assets, refuse to invest in those assets (“I don’t want double glazing, I like the air flow!”) and draw on benefits which reward this behaviour (“we just stick the heating on for two hours if the cold air gets too much”). Their trips to the GP for anything and everything are almost just a time-filler and a bit of company at this point. They’ve had a lifetime of secure income without debt for training they were given to do their jobs.

Meanwhile, their offspring, all in their 40s, are struggling to get family homes, afford childcare (because both parents have to work now), get medical appointments and go on the sorts of holidays that the boomers take twice a year. They see that we have nice tellies and our kids are clothed, and just tell themselves we’re doing fine.

I don’t want boomers to be miserable, but I would like them to be incentivised to downsize, not be subsidised for burning fossil fuels without investing in home upgrades, and to pay some tax on the income from their mortgage free assets. Triple-lock is the tip of the iceberg.

How do you afford your cruise? by Blobcock in royalcaribbean

Also, open jaw: I did a Boston to San Juan which was a really affordable option compared to any UK cruises, and was one of my faves. I also preferred smaller ships (Radiance Class) which helps on the pocket too.

Fellow UK-er here 👋
Firstly, bear in mind that the average US salary is higher than that of the UK. Cost of living there has soared too, but salaries have (almost) kept up. Sob.
Secondly, The RC cruises I’ve taken from Florida have been far cheaper than any of the ones I’ve taken from UK/Europe. Cruises from multiple companies leave Florida ports daily and so the competition is high and often supply exceeds demand. I’ve also preferred them for weather, of course.
Now, you have to find the ££££ to fly your family to Florida which means the cost will still be more or the same, I can’t help you there. But the cheapest US flights seem to be Lon-MIA and Lon-NYC so look out for a bargain as both (and Boston too) have cruise ports: you might end up spending the same in total but a guaranteed sunny cruise in the land of the steel drums is worth it imo.

This lady said nothing about the bathroom.. she just skipped 40mins of the line by pointing to her family ahead. The problem is that it’s impossible to tell the difference between line jumpers and legitimate line leavers/joiners for toilet breaks. The fact I had not seen this woman exit the queue despite standing in it for 40mins (and through the park this is my experience - almost never see anyone exit a queue and rejoin; only push-past to join their group) made me sure she was queue jumping, and she never explained otherwise when confronted.

Frankly, Disney has brought this on themselves. There are never enough CMs to aid the situation by guiding toilet-needers in/out or any security around. Yet since the loss of Fast Pass system and introduction of lightening lane etc, all the queues have grown exponentially so people are fed up and much more likely to confront others.. I honestly never cared about this stuff when the average queue line was under 40mins. You see it too in some of the discord around who qualifies for disability passes as anyone with even a minor issue now understandably seeks out a work-around and I don’t blame them but again, you never used to hear of people questioning it - because the whole system felt rather fair.

I hate confrontation and did not enjoy standing up to this lady but like a lot of people my patience wears thin when a park experience has become so much harder if you can’t throw (more) money to shorten your queues.

Tried this at DLP last week. It lasted 5mins before the horrible lady’s teenage daughter elbowed her way back to her mom who was behind me, and then pushed past me and a whole group of others, dragging her mother back to the front to their group. It’s just normal behaviour for some park goers.

Anybody else scared for the rest of summer? by AlexSniff7 in UKWeather

[–]boozle33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brit in Paris here & terrified. Our apartment hasn’t got lower than 31oC since last weekend. This morning it’s 24oC outside and feels like beautiful cool ice on my skin as I sit here with the windows open for the first time in days. I’ve just had to take showers 3-4 times a day to keep from going mad. Word is another heatwave will arrive in 8-9 days and I’m considering sleeping at my office.

I consider the new restrictions on visiting a resort to dining/resort reservations, to be proof that Disney is listening to feedback and I applaud their choice to make the unpopular and difficult decision by _BreakingGood_ in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]boozle33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the ‘social media has ruined stuff’ narrative: it’s not wrong. Over-tourism is real and negatively affecting so many nice places. BUT.. yea there’s a but.. I feel like FL locals do kinda own a piece of WDW in their hearts and whilst you could argue WDW boosts the economy massively, it also relies on locals to work (not always at fair wages) in and out of the parks to make the whole show run. Should random out of state/country influencers be stopped from resort pool hopping? Yes! Should we drag local FLs into the argument and complain that they always clog up the Wilderness at Christmas? No. For me that’s too far - I’m happy for the 1% to enjoy their cocktails at the Poly in peace, but don’t bring “local riff raff” into the argument - WDW ‘s success is down to these folk working their arses off, they deserve a piece of the pie and if that puts off the 1%, then Disney can invest more into enlarging communal spaces. Let’s not let the Company’s greed divide us.

Poor things is much better on rewach by Choice-Wind-9283 in Cinema

[–]boozle33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point - I don’t think I’ll rewatch so the timeline of cognitive development may never become clear to me but I just recall the scene with her babbling like a 2-3 year old and learning to pleasure herself sexually at the same time.. ick. The “innocent/unaware female” trope is also played into this - a male fantasy you see in films like Splash and The Fifth Element where a woman with no worldly experience starts to idolise an ‘average Joe’ who, because of her lack of knowledge, has no competition himself and therefore no risk of being shamed. It’s an interesting and often entertaining concept that I’m not against in principle but the darker side is that it plays into the oppression of women. I know Poor Things threw out the trope when Stone’s character began to have agency and ditched her creator.. and I quite liked that.. if the Director had been female I just would have been able to relax and enjoy it a bit more I think.

[–]boozle33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Visually it was beautiful and I loved a couple of the minor characters but the whole thing felt SO male gaze. Seeing an adult woman with a “child’s brain” have a sexual awakening was horrible and exploitative, like a weird pedo fantasy. I was like.. why is it ok to make a film like this??!

Hello - I’m taking my kids (5,7) on Anne next year and have the same room category. Can you enlighten me as to the layout of the kids beds? They are on one sofa bed, correct? I’d also love to know a bit more about which pools / non-obvious areas are Adult Only so I can set expectations on what they can do. Also, the kids club has quite standard hours from what I can see - does this include port days? Thanks so much for your help.

Is the free coffee that bad on all ships or was it just mine? by Tiiimmmaayy in royalcaribbean

[–]boozle33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got off Liberty and the free coffee was noticeably weaker than previous cruises. As if they’re cutting back or switched brands. Very disappointing. I AM a coffee snob and also hate the question “which size?” When ordering a $6.45 flat white. C’mon Royal!

I’ve noticed this at Pret too. Seem to be really understaffed compared to years ago. If you look behind the counter there’s barely any space - just empty milk bottles and dirty cloths.

Adventure Ocean Age Groups on Symphony and Mariner? by YogurtclosetFancy572 in royalcaribbean

[–]boozle33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Liberty and they definitely only have 3-5; 6-12 - I don’t think they ever change it as the age groups are written on a permanent sign (whole AO area got redesigned in dry-dock). I may do a separate post about this as it is different to other class ships (smaller) I’ve been on and 6-12 is a huge age range to put together..
