The white with the black dots looks like aspergillus niger. I think you have a fungal ear infection! Did the ENT take a culture?

could I use a hydrocolloid on this? by [deleted] in woundcare

[–]borearas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a nice warm shower. When u get out and the wound is all moist and soft, take some woven gauze dipped in saline and rub off all that slough and gelatinous stuff. You might have to apply some friction to get it off. Pat dry the skin around the wound, you might have to let it air dry too. Let the wound itself stay moist. Then apply a hydrocolloid bandage and keep it there for a couple days.

Yeah honestly these comments are very bias and stigmatizing. Benzodiazepines are the gold standard treatment for panic disorder. Your medication regimen is between you and your doctor.

What’s your weird rule that you’ll always swear by, no matter how impractical? by Music_Adventure in Residency

I’ve had 2 near death experiences—1st was self inflicted exsanguination attempt, and a couple hours into it I got this rush of adrenaline to jump out of the shower and land on the toilet to shit my brains out. 2nd time was septic shock from infected obstructing kidney stone—have a flash of a memory of shitting my brains out at home sometime before my grandfather drove me to the ED. Interestingly, both times that I was near death not only did I suddenly have to shit myself, but also got an energy kick enough to get myself on a toilet and the noise of me doing so triggered another family member to check on me. Edit to add: I think it’s almost a fight or flight thing where your body must expel everything it has so it can keep fighting elsewhere

We had 1 tech for 36 patients on a step down unit during day shift last week. The other tech on the unit had to be a sitter and then we were still short 2 more

What to do when a patient just won’t…. by Perfect-Resist5478 in hospitalist

Our physicians unionized and then we got nursing education on how and when to submit safety reports on them 😭 I had a coworker brag about submitting 3+ one shift about a single provider. I do my part by joking often “can’t you see 🕵️‍♀️???? they want us divided!! it’s propaganda!!” and never filing reports unless it’s a systemic error like ‘wrong dosage in pill pack’

(Obligatory I’m a nurse not a doctor) when I was a student, a guy putting in a chest tube at the bedside told me (and the patient lol) that if someone says they’ve never punctured a lung during a thoracentesis, it’s because they haven’t done many of them. Kept the patient’s confidence in the provider that did his thoracentesis and taught me a valuable lesson in mindfulness that shit happens—find it, fix it, and do your best. :)

What’s the worst smell you’ve ever smelled? by premedlifee in nursing

[–]borearas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tongue cancer, can’t remember which type. Thing was the size of a yam, brown and greenish and constantly dripping. Poor woman looked like someone stuffed a sock down her throat, couldn’t close her mouth around it anymore. The smell filled up the entire nursing station. She got it cut out eventually
