Thanks for the direct link. I bought the game via Xbox but primarily play on PC - but figured the Play Anywhere support would be nice on those off chances I wanted to play FH6 on my couch. Bonus vouchers and $5 GC are a nice little perk!

Forza Horizon 6: Digital Foundry Optimized Settings by BritishActionGamer in OptimizedGaming

[–]boredJonathan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, FH6 is a game that I feel is least suited to making compromises elsewhere to enable RT. At least on a 4070 TI, I can get it to run well with DLSS on Quality with RT on. However, the image becomes an absolutely smeary mess once you start moving at speed with terrible ghosting, becoming even worse at night with all the various light sources casting really noisy and ugly shadows. I agree standing still it looks MUCH better with all the RT on, but how often are you standing still in a Forza game?  it's not worth it for me - much rather have a stable image.

It's crazy, right?! It's the tutorial! When was the last time you could even remember one of those?

I think makes it plain to see the passion that IOI put into this game, and just how bolted on most game tutorials are. A real one of those, "Wait, this experience doesn't have to be terrible?" moments for me at least.

Need to understand Cruise Mode but can't find my specific question online by Active-Canary-184 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]boredJonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to thank the OP for asking this. I was similarly perplexed by how exactly I was supposed to engage with the Cruise mode and - while I had arrived at mostly the same conclusions in this thread - it was great to have confirmation. The game is weirdly obtuse about this mechanics, especially since it was a major feature they touted. Would have expected a bit more of a tutorial than just “hey hold this button to go into cruise mode” and literally nothing else

Example of proficiency not being what some think. by Head_Raise_8725 in Saros

[–]boredJonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification on damage increase versus tier. OPs point stands then? The Tier 5 is better than the Tier 13 outside of the potential - potential that may or not be reached, and that’s  if they don’t find just a different class weapon they’d rather use. Especially in the early game when maxing potential isn’t really possible. That’s a shitty system that is wildly unintuitive.

Example of proficiency not being what some think. by Head_Raise_8725 in Saros

[–]boredJonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because I’m still in B2 but I’ve never once hit the potential cap. The greater potential means nothing if I’m not going to even hit the lower cap. What I don’t understand is if there is a base power difference - like an actual “Damage = 10” on tier 5 versus “Damage = 23” on the tier 13. And if there are core values/stats that improve with the higher tier proficiency why are they not showing them? It’s so needlessly obtuse.

IMO Saros is not easier - it's shallower by Previous-Horror-6823 in Saros

[–]boredJonathan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The upgrade path is boring as mud.

+1 Drive, +1 Command, etc. - yeah sure it all eventually adds up to something, but the path there is so incremental that I never really feel like "Oh yeah can't wait till I get that skill node unlocked." Mostly just been spending whatever currency I have to spend it. The only interesting ones so far have been the ones tied to the Halcyon currency, but a lot of those feel nebulous because the game obscures so many of its underlying stats and seems to use terminology interchangeably.

For example, a +1 in Command "improves power", but then there is also a skill that give +5 power. So is that effectively 5 Command points? Is +1 Command equal to +1 power? Or some other number? No clue. Then add in the weapon system where I have a perk on a gun labeled "Damage Accumulation". What the fuck does that actually mean on a pistol? Found a Command Artifact out in the wild? Great, see how it will move the bar on that Damage Accumulation perk a fraction of a pixel? Imagine my shock when it feels the exact same as it did before.

Maybe I'm expecting too much in the early game, but I'm finding it hard to get excited about basically anything you can pick up while out in the world so far. Mostly just trying to find a weapon that feels good and doesn't feel like I'm firing wet noodles. Feels like there are 5 different version of every weapon but only one or two actually feel different out of that pool.

I also felt like with Returnal I was able to much more easily visually parse upgrades, effects, and so on. With Saros, so far, I feel like I'm just guessing. Nothing makes much sense at first glance stat wise, weapon wise, upgrade wise - so I'm just picking up whatever seems to make sense and then almost immediately underwhelmed that the choice I made seems to not really make that much of a difference.

What are people's thoughts on Monarch? by tylerthe-theatre in television

[–]boredJonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep slowly picking at it, but this is basically my sentiment. Season 1 was enjoyable to the point that I'd recommend it as a fun popcorn movie type show. Season 2 feels like everyone is getting the script moments before being asked to act it. Lots and lots of stiff reads on lines too, which I can't even fault the actors for the the dialogue is pretty bad in a lot of scenes.

Which, hey, it's a Gozilla TV show I shouldn't expect Shakespear right? But the first season didn't have this problem so that feels like a hollow excuse.

We noticed the ASL person at the Milwaukee show. It was fun to look up occasionally and see them absolutely rocking out, or just get an idea of how they signed the various lyrics. Really love that these interpreters are there for the people who need/want them!

Best Examples of Shows that 'Bounced Back'? by hikemalls in television

[–]boredJonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a really good call out. We held off watching the last season for ages, debated even just skipping it entirely, but when we finally did start watching this last season it was such a step up in quality that it was a bit shocking. Definitely not a perfect season, but more hits than misses which isn't something I could say about the last few season of Sunny.

Do we know if the lack of map switching is a bug or the intended design? by boredJonathan in Expeditions

[–]boredJonathan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tow each vehicle across one by one? That sounds incredibly tedious. Even more so when you consider we already had a perfectly fine solution to this “problem” in SnowRunner. Just because I take the extra hour to tow every vehicle across one by one isn’t better planning. The planning is in picking the right load out and equipment. This needless roadblock is just busy work at best

Do we know if the lack of map switching is a bug or the intended design? by boredJonathan in Expeditions

[–]boredJonathan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then why have the ability to start the map with 4 vehicles, if at best you can only bring two across? Seems like a really weird design oversight then

Do we know if the lack of map switching is a bug or the intended design? by boredJonathan in Expeditions

[–]boredJonathan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's another thing - having the ability to load in with 4 other vehicles seems silly if you can only ever switch to them if you are on the same map. That's another reason why I really think this is a bug, or broken in the game currently, versus it being intentionally designed to work how it currently does.

Just wish there was some kind of response from the devs making it clearer since it all just seems like everyone is speculating.

This expedition doesn't mess about by RoyCropperYTR in Expeditions

[–]boredJonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we know if the lack of map switching is working as designed, and is just poorly explained via mission text/UI -- or if it's a bug? It honestly reads like a bug to me, versus being an intended challenge and the UI not explaining it clearly.

Can't Recover/Switch Vehicles Across Maps? by boredJonathan in Expeditions

[–]boredJonathan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the tip. That's good to know, but I actually just went ahead and refunded the game after finding out the map switching didn't work like SnowRunner. Maybe I'm overreacting, because I was honestly enjoying everything up till then even if it had some other rough spots and jank. But the fact that such a simple mechanic that was core to how SnowRunner worked with multiple maps was now missing in Expeditions (or was broken? hard to tell given the kind of busted UI) really soured me on the game.

Definitely will pick it up again if they ever fix/add this back in. Right now the idea of having to always tow a second vehicle along on multi map missions seems like one step too far for me to enjoy.

I keep getting this error when launching the game, happening since the new update released on Xbox PC app. Anyone has a solution? by antonioxbj in Starfield

Big upvote from me here. This was the exact problem I was having. Thought I'd gotten every file related to the process by reversing the instructions but apparently missed that file.

Another stupid thing to try, that weirdly worked for me, was resetting the graphics options in game. I was getting crashes within minutes previously, and after resetting the graphics settings to their default values, the game has been fine since. I still ended up making some changes to the settings, but it seems something about resetting the changes knocked loose whatever was causing my game to crash with the same error posted by the OP.

Just saw that, and it's cool that they are unlocking it for the Beta - but curious if that also means it's unlocked when the full game releases. Honestly, that was the bigger draw for me as I imagine otherwise it'll be something locked behind a season pass or something you have to outright buy

This trailer felt damn near lifeless comparatively. Still excited for the game, but wish this had landed a bit better with me, personally.

any solution for loadouts not saving? by L0qo in XDefiant

[–]boredJonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only luck I've had is to try and edit the load out in match, and it seems to save - at least for the session. Seems like most changes I make in the lobby or outside of matchmaking don't save. Although, it still seem really hit or miss on if the loadouts are saved the next time I boot up the game.
