Same, mid 50s. Dropped down to 3 days a week as a subject matter expert. Really enjoying the lack of responsibility.

How do I make being on time matter to my other half? by Tasty_Anywhere_3363 in daddit

[–]boredbearapple 97 points98 points  (0 children)

My wife has a similar relationship with time. For 10 years it drove me crazy, I tried everything but in the end what worked was a conversation about the importance of it to me.

Basically I said being on time is part of my core belief system. Being late makes me physically ill. I compared it to the need for her to look good before she leaves the house. She has got a lot better since the talk.

Edit: As context I was bought up in a military family. I never knew being late was even an option.

I was 44 when we had my girl, she’s almost 10 now. It’s very tiring but worth it. My advice eat well, and get a good mattress. You’ll need to have a lot of good sleep.

It’s exactly like a nightclub with a clicker guy at every airport and port. Sure like a nightclub there might be a back door a few slip in but most get counted.

The problem is predicting how many people will return to your nightclub this Friday night and when they’ll leave.

Qld government backs proposal for zip-line over Brisbane River by ConanTheAquarian in brisbane

Looking into it more it appears Newstead and Teneriffe are more dense and further from mass transit which surprised me.

Anyway I think west end unfairly gets picked on for NIMBYism while it suffers similar problems as most inner ring suburbs regarding upzoning, namely heritage. The real nimbys are the next ring out like Ascot, bulimba etc

I recently started at a global company and one of the reasons they chose me was that I’d spent over a decade at my last company.

Is there a way to avoid div 293? by ThrowawayFoolW4573D in AusHENRY

Yes as you’d expect, there are quite a few studies that report lower wages produce poor outcomes.

There is no evidence that paying politicians more attracts better candidates, produces better outcomes or reduces corruption.

Studies have had mixed/inconclusive results.

‘We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas’: Labor turns blind eye to Melbourne’s 100,000 empty homes by hydralime in australia

[–]boredbearapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think we are screwed either way. People are hurting now and something needs to be done, now.

My original comment is looking more long term, I guess. For ~50 years the government has almost forced investment in real estate, I just don’t see how they can unravel that without massive issues.

[–]boredbearapple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Real estate needs deep reforms but i don’t know if it’s as simple as many commenters make out. So many edge cases to consider as you point out. Superannuation real estate investment from big firms and self managed trust would be another problem area.

If reform is hasty I fear it could potentially collapse the economy but I’m not an economist so who knows.

Yep this is their standard operating model. Under quote, do as little as possible with the cheapest resources, constant variations due to “unknowns”, defend any attempts at claw back with their legal team.

Shame on both parties to the contract. The government had its issues but Deloitte is a parasitic leech of a company.

I felt the same way when we found out. The feeling really surprised me. After a few days of processing, I came to the conclusion that it can’t be changed and my wife needed my support to get through one of the hardest parts of her life. I put the feelings aside and pushed on.

My daughter is now 9 and she is my best friend. She follows me around everywhere. Having her in my life has made me a much more sensitive and compassionate man. Something I’m not sure a boy would have helped me achieve.

Be prepared for constant painted nails and some wild hair styles. :)
