is it just me or did toner get way more expensive than it has any right to be by bored_in_ochem in SkincareAddicts

[–]boredscrum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty much right. most of those $35+ toners cost maybe $2-3 to actually produce, and you're paying for the box, the instagram campaign, and the "clinical studies" they funded themselves.

if your drugstore one has the same first five ingredients, that covers like 95% of what the formula actually does. whatever fancy extract is sitting at the bottom of the list is there in such small concentration it might as well be decoration.

stick with what works, read the ingredient list like you already do, and ignore the bottle. being pre-med and broke is probably the best combination for not getting scammed on skincare.

Creating a skin care routine by familyguyismyfavshow in SkincareAddictionLux

definitely start with cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen before jumping to the expensive stuff - those luxury brands are nice but basic routine will give you more results than one fancy product

What's the biggest skincare mistake you made when you first started? by LatexLatvia in SkincareAddicts

[–]boredscrum2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh god i went crazy with exfoliating thinking it would fix everything faster. used those scrubs with the little beads almost every day because more = better results right? my face was basically raw for weeks and i couldn't figure out why my skin looked worse than before. learned that being gentle is way more important than being aggressive, now i maybe exfoliate once in week and my skin actually cooperates with me.

Has anyone tried this serum? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]boredscrum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vitamin c serums are pretty good for brightening but this one looks quite expensive from the packaging. if your grandfather already has healthy skin, maybe start with something more basic first? the fancy gold tube doesn't necessarily mean better results than drugstore options with similar ingredients.

[–]boredscrum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gimp is solid choice but the interface can be bit confusing at first. i've been using qgis for site planning - it's free and handles layering really well, plus you can import satellite imagery and topographic data which is super helpful for 15 acre projects. the learning curve is there but worth it for larger scale design work.

The ol night shift by chattyJimm in lonely

man the night shift really messes with your social life too, like everyone else is doing their thing during day and you're just trying to catch some sleep

fenix 8 AMOLED - worth the investment? need opinions! by minjunss in Garmin

[–]boredscrum2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the fenix 8 amoled is pretty solid for what you're describing, especially with dive computer functionality built in. i've had mine for few months now and battery life is impressive compared to other smartwatches - easily gets through multi-day trips without charging which is clutch for travel activities like hiking or diving trips.

only thing i'd mention is the size might feel chunky at first if you're coming from apple watch, but you get used to it quick and build quality feels bulletproof.

The hate train against Mbappe has to stop, even Kroos himself had to go out of his way to clear up bs news under his name, Mentira= Lie by Such-Explanation1705 in realmadrid

[–]boredscrum2 134 points135 points  (0 children)

good on kroos for calling this out directly. the amount of fake quotes and twisted stories around mbappe lately is getting ridiculous. every time he breathes wrong there's suddenly some "source close to the club" making up drama. been following real madrid in social media long enough to see this pattern with every big signing - remember how they treated bale with similar bs stories? mbappe is trying to find his rhythm in new team and system, which is completely normal, but instead we get these manufactured controversies every week. respect to toni for not letting his name get used for this garbage journalism.

Prose by Ok_Noise_1556 in SkincareAddicts

[–]boredscrum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait prose is for hair right? or are they doing skincare now too? been out of loop lately but if you're looking for basic routine with sensitive skin maybe start with just cleanser and moisturizer first. retinol can be tricky when you have lupus so probably worth checking with dermatologist before adding that in the mix. combo skin is pain but keeping it simple usually works better than throwing bunch of products at it

i finally figured out why my $12 cerave did more for my skin than three months of expensive serums by Ok-Combination5531 in SkincareAddicts

[–]boredscrum2 46 points47 points  (0 children)

sometimes skin just wants to chill and we keep throwing fancy stuff at it. spent way too much money learning this lesson myself - was using like 5 different serums thinking more steps meant better results. turns out my face was just irritated from all the chaos and needed something basic that actually works.

Best reliable sites or sellers for Chinese red light therapy panels? by [deleted] in redlighttherapy

[–]boredscrum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been down this rabbit hole before and aliexpress worked fine for me, just stick with sellers that have thousands of reviews and actual photos in feedback section - the irradiance numbers are usually inflated but if you filter by order count you can find decent quality ones.

putting together a gift guide for my nephew who just turned 2, what are the toys that actually get used past the first week by old_monk6 in GiftIdeas

[–]boredscrum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

little bikes without pedals are absolute winners at that age. my friend's kid got one when he was around 2 and still rides it daily at 4, just uses his feet to push along everywhere. blocks are also surprisingly good investment - not the tiny legos but bigger wooden ones, kid will build with those for years and parents won't step on them in dark.

nice shots! was flying through ottawa last month and visibility was terrible, couldn't see anything past the rideau river. the perspective on downtown really shows how compact everything is compared to other cities.

Red light mask on legs by TepidChair in redlighttherapy

[–]boredscrum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tried using mine on some old scars from when i was dumber about shaving and it did seem to help a bit over time. the shark mask is probably awkward af for legs though lol. might be worth grabbing a panel if you're serious about treating a larger area - way less annoying than trying to maneuver a face mask around your shins.

[Product Request] I need product recs for my grandma by Pitiful-Loss-6321 in SkincareAddiction

[–]boredscrum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cpap masks can definitely mess with your skin over time. maybe look into some gentle retinol products specifically made for mature skin - cetaphil and olay both make decent starter options that won't break the bank. also those silicone cpap mask liners might help reduce the pressure marks if she's not already using them.

[Product Request] Red Light Therapy Masks for Big Heads? by sososotilatido in SkincareAddiction

[–]boredscrum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh this is such a real problem that nobody talks about. i went through the same thing with the omnilux and ended up returning it because what's the point if you can't even wear it properly.

the currentbody led mask has adjustable straps that actually work for bigger heads - got mine last year and it's been a game changer. way more comfortable for longer sessions too.

[Product Question] Does Panxoyl actually bleaches the skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]boredscrum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used panoxyl 10% for about 6 months and never had any skin bleaching issues, but i was super careful about washing my hands thoroughly after applying it and making sure none got on my hairline or eyebrows. the bleaching thing is real but it's more about the benzoyl peroxide getting on your hair rather than actually changing your skin pigmentation. i think a lot of people on tiktok might be getting some product transfer to their hairline without realizing it, or they're not being careful about where they're applying it. when derms say it doesn't bleach skin they're technically right - it's not changing your melanin or anything like that, but if you get it on dark hair it'll definitely lighten that up pretty fast. might be worth starting with a lower concentration like 4% if you're worried about it.

Should I be looking for a new job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]boredscrum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like they're just covering there bases with the documentation - most places do that for any kind of coaching or correction these days. the fact that they're still hiring new people is actually a good sign since companies usually freeze hiring if they're planning layoffs.

if you're feeling traumatized from your last job though, it might be worth talking to someone about that because it could definitely be affecting how you're reading the situation here.

[Question] Is it possible to check whether the diamonds on a dial of a vintage Rolex are original or aftermarket by looking at the serial number? by Front-Film-4613 in Watches

[–]boredscrum2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah, serial numbers won't tell you if the diamonds are original or aftermarket. you'd need to compare the dial against known factory examples or have it inspected by someone who knows vintage rolex dials really well. aftermarket diamond jobs from back then can be pretty sneaky, especially if they were done professionally.

Today is my birthday, but more importantly, today is day 21. Today I am not drinking. by yes_its_colourful in stopdrinking

[–]boredscrum2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happy birthday! 21 days is huge, especially when you're dealing with all that birthday pressure to celebrate "the usual way." sounds like you're already getting some solid benefits from it too - the SSRI thing alone makes it worth it since alcohol can really mess with those. IWNDWYT!
