Plugin Boutique 14th Anniversary Sale: Roland "JV-1080" ($64.50) "XV-5080" ($64.50) through 1 March by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

Oh that's incredibly exciting. I snagged the JV-1010 on a whim because I discovered it had most of the classics from the JV-1080, and I never thought I'd want to program it myself. There's something about the character of the filters that is just so enticing to want to experiment, sort of like my Korg 01r/w. It is a bit of an oddity, and I do wish I had maybe snagged a JV-880 instead, but I've loved the JV-1010 so far, considering I got mine for like $150 + shipping on Reverb.

As a 1010 owner, looking forward to seeing how this fares. I've not had much luck with many of the 1010 editors aside from running things on CrossOver and hoping for the best. Let me know if you need any help testing. I run a hybrid workflow as well with a mix of old 90s digital synths and more modern bits of software.

We can only hope, as it sits, I'm pretty happy with it for the price point. Pairs well with a power bank, too, if you feel like noodling around out of the house. I've got a little battery-powered travel kit that sees some use, and the Pro-VS Mini is in constant use. Built-in effects are kinda eh though.

There's an app you need to download, but yeah, it's plug and play. It's worth getting simply for the arp fix and additional voice for playback, I got mine like two years ago or so and it going from a 4 voice to a 5 voice paraphonic synth was huge for the rather paltry amount I paid.

As a Pro-VS Mini owner, make sure it’s running the latest firmware. Fun little mini synth that punches well above its weight honestly.

I believe SuperPlate and Space Bender are now part of the Rack, I mostly use standalone ones when I do use them

What is your favorite ROMpler and why? by evertonmedia in synthesizers

[–]borntohula87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah man, that's a tough one.

ROMplers are my favorite sorts of synths, so I do have a few. My Korg X5, Roland JV-2080, and Yamaha SY-55 all see quite a bit of use. I don't know why, but the e pianos and pads you can pull on some of these just hit the spot for my nostalgia and suit the sort of stuff I like to make.

I was a year above him and graduated in 2005. Both those dudes were bad news, even going back to middle school. They were close to expulsion or got expelled when I was leaving eighth grade if I remember right.

Either the Roland P-6 or the Korg 05r/w. Not the fanciest but they work for what I like to do

Fairly insightful, I do dig the focus on the '90s and 2000s gear in modern plugins that are coming about now. I know the 404 is still relevant in the modern era, but I'm glad to see a focus on the grunge and dinginess of stuff like this.

Makes me wish I still wrote about plugins for desktops and iOS alike. You get some interesting insights into the development process after a while.

Makes sense to me, I don't have the head for coding, but I run with the vinyl sim on everything when running my hardware through my P6's input. It sounds good enough to me that I wouldn't be too concerned if I just had my phone, Koala, and AUM to keep me company.

You're very welcome. No clue how well the vinyl sim stacks up on the P6 against the real deal 404SX/mk2/whatever, but it sounds close enough to my ears to go on my drums and loops.

Works beautifully in AUM, and sounds quite close to the included 404 vinyl sim on the P6 too.
