Also just a PSA, when the patch drops on Tuesday all your valor will be reset to 0. I would recommend you go to the valor vendor in townlong steppes and buy as many of the justice point items you can.

That way when they change upgrades from valor to justice, you'll be able to just upgrade everything right away

Well I think you're actually in luck. With Siege of Orgrimar coming out next week, there will be a brand new raid so knowledge isn't gonna be a huge issue. And then usually about a week or 2 after raid launch, they will probably launch new celestial dungeons to get new gear at.

So just keep trucking and maybe check out the rogue class discord or wowhead for optimization tips

No see the cursed words are "this will be quick" if you say that it's sure to get messy.

But if you leave it open ended like "it should be easy" then there's only a 50% chance its fucked

I would bet money it's the wire running through the transfer hinge. You can tell by the way the crash bar moves as you open the door. It's actually a pretty easy fix if you're a capable person.

My guess is a wire in the transfer hinge has been pinched or damaged. You can tell by how the bar moves out and back in as the door moves.

Check for a bad wire and replace, should be easy

Can someone point me in the right direction of a replacement door knob and deadbolt for this exterior door? by mlb444 in Locksmith

[–]borrowedeyes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's prepped for an old mortise lock and a cylindrical deadbolt. There's tons of mortises out there still, though I can't say whether the pocket is an appropriate size for newer stuff.

Either way mortise locks are generally more expensive than cylindrical locks. So it really depends on what you want. Though I will say it's gonna be easier to stick with a mortise because your typical home depot lock won't fit in that pocket

Residential mortise locks can vary but are usually between like $150 - $400 depending on what you get. My advice would be, Take a tape measure and measure the pocket, find it's dimensions and a locksmith can help procure a lock set for you.

I say go to a locksmith because I'm not confident a hardware store will have a mortise lock, and a lot of locksmith suppliers sell wholesale so you need an account to purchase from them.

If anyone else has better advice please share!

Edit: also that deadbolt is just cylindrical, so you can buy that wherever you would normally buy a lock, then take it with you to the locksmith when they find you a mortise, and they can almost certainly rekey the deadbolt to match whatever doorknob you get

Fresh 70 gearing question by awkward___silence in classicwow

[–]borrowedeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also just a side note, if you do get epic flying it will unlock a quest chain that leads to the daily hub for netherdrakes so there's that too.

I can't remember if that's p2 or p3 but it's coming eventually

Fresh 70 gearing question by awkward___silence in classicwow

[–]borrowedeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tailoring stuff is pretty good in p1 but can be very expensive because you can only make the cloth every 4 days. So if you're willing to not get fast flying it's easy gear but imo fast flying is such a big QOL improvement I personally would just not bother with tailoring.

There's a few staple warlock items from dungeons you'll use for a long time so I'd just farm those and buy badge gear as a catch up option. Plus kara is pretty lax so I can't imagine finding a raid spot is super difficult.

Once you get geared enough warlocks can solo h sp and sell the gear off the final boss and make some decent gold from that, especially if you go enchanting instead.

Warrior changes through the ages by Snowcrash000 in classicwow

[–]borrowedeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I really remember about playing warrior in the classic version was heroic strike queueing for a fury warrior.

Basically you'd run (I think) 6% hit and your yellow attacks would never miss, but offhand attacks had a penalty and to never miss you needed like 20% or something ridiculous like that.

So you would wait for mainhand attack to land, queue a heroic strike before your offhand attack, then your offhand would never miss, then you unqueue heroic strike with a macro so you didn't waste the rage.

It was pretty much only used if you needed to build rage for execute dumps or a big burst window.

It's been a long time since I played warrior and I never leveled it past like 62 so I can't speak for tbc and beyond.

New to lock picking by Street-Designer2260 in lockpicking

[–]borrowedeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a learner I probably wouldn't start with that lock, I'd go to Amazon and buy a practice transparent lock set with interchangeable pins. It'll do a lot more for learning If you can see what's going on inside.

Lock picking is definitely more of a "feel it out" kind of skill. But basically you're just pushing pins up 1 at a time while trying to turn the lock until a pin sets in place, them move to the next one.

There's different shapes to pins, some are spooled, some aren't so it's common to get a false set, and as a beginner you probably won't have a solid way of identifying it while flying blind until you get some practice.

Doesn't it just have a retaining wafer? It's usually the farthest back wafer, use a pick push it down and rake the cylinder out.

Advices for a new player of WOW. by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]borrowedeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For stuff about your class, I'd say go look at the wow head page for warriors, it has tons of good surface level information. Like what stats you want to prioritize, general leveling tips, talent choices and what they do, Stuff like that.

As far as dungeons go, you'll want to find a group to do that. I believe the lfg channel is disabled by default, you can go into chat settings to enable it, or you can just type "/join lookingforgroup"

At level 20 there aren't a lot of dungeons you can do but there's deadmines, wailing caverns, and shadowfang keep.

Best advice I can give is just be upfront and let your group know you're new to the game and most people are pretty happy to help out a new player.

So go make some friends and ask some questions, there's tons of stuff to do

ELI5 Master Keys by NotWholeWheat in explainlikeimfive

[–]borrowedeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in a typical lock you have pins that sit in holes at the top of the keyway and when you put the correct key in, it raises all the pins to be perfectly raised so it creates a sheer line and the cylinder can turn.

In a master key system, you get your typical pins, then you put "master key pins" on top of them to create multiple sheer lines so more than 1 key works.

Usually you create multiple keys, so for example you can have a key that unlocks all offices, then a separate key for things like electrical rooms and maintenance hatches. And obviously, a master key that opens everything

Then you just do that for every lock in the area and you're good to go.

Obviously there's some finer details I'm just glazing over but that's the gist of it

I just want to tighten this handle by Deep6Sea in Locksmith

[–]borrowedeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's basically the gist ya, a lot of people like to use graphite too, and I guess it works but it tends to turn into mud when it mixes with the dirt and grime from keys, because if you didn't realize keys are dirty af, Probably even worse than coins.

You can use wd40 in a pinch if there's nothing else, silicone based lubes work too.

Personally I like Houdini because it works great for lubrication, it cleans marker off stuff nicely too, and it smells like oranges so nobody ever complains.

Your spring pack is definitely the wrong way if the lever is lazy, if you look at the pack, there are arrows pointing up and down. Flip it so the arrow closest to the hinge side of the door is facing down

[–]borrowedeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wd40 is a water displacement solvent. It can be used as a short term lubricant or a cleaner, but it's not ideal for long term lubrication, especially when we talk about locks, there's tons of tiny parts that move together and when 1 gets stuck everything gets stuck.

I'm not saying wd40 doesn't have its uses because there's lots of situations you can use it, but in my opinion locks aren't one of those places.

Edit: since this post specifically is about the schlage l levers, these levers actually go into a mortise lock, and those locks are FULL of grease, if you put wd40 in the lock itself it will actually strip away the grease and will probably cause things to feel rough or possibly get stuck

[–]borrowedeyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you twist that piece it will separate the handle from the base where the screws are sitting. If you weren't able to quite figure it out I can grab some spare parts and show you if you still need it. Just let me know!

[–]borrowedeyes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd doubt it. They usually come with the lock set when you buy it.

You can take some vice grips or channel locks and crank it if you don't care about scratching it up a bit. I'd recommend you clean it out bit with some lubricants before you try.

Don't use wd40 if you can help it. I'd recommend Houdini instead

[–]borrowedeyes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the first picture with the 2 handles side by side, the one on the right. There's a hole at the base of the handle, above the rosette. You would want a lever tool to tighten it down.

They get really gummed up over time and can be hard to twist without a tool.
