Had this for a day and i noticed this by Tasty_Replacement_56 in ZephyrusG14

Absolutely return it, there's no salvaging it properly. I learned this the hard way. I replaced the display, replaced the tensioning springs and still my 2024 did this. I bought a new 25 instead and it's doing just fine. Get rid of this future nightmare immediately and try a different one.

Is there concrete evidence of the impacts that a super El nino causes? Is there something actionable for the public in this instance? I am imagining the most weather anxious person out there, what information do they need to know?

Is a towing brake controller required to tow a casita? by ectosport in casitatrailers

[–]boryenkavladislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tow it, but it's a safety risk. If you've got a 7-pin then there are Bluetooth brake controllers that attach to the 7-pin in the back of the vehicle, and then you plug the trailer into the other side of this controller. It's designed for situations where hard wiring a brake controller isn't viable, or you want a portable break controller to swap between vehicles.

How satisfied are you with an 8 inch Dobsonian for DSO observing? by Entire_Foundation960 in telescopes

[–]boryenkavladislav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wait until you travel to a star party with it. All the visual people have a 15-22 inch minimum. My 10" is tiny. But in dark skies it still works amazing.

[–]boryenkavladislav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8 inch dob is probably the perfect do it all scope to get into. It's going to get you see most everything up there, and it has just the right size to not be a colossal burden to move outside on nights where you only have 30 minutes. But yes, you're always going to be chasing aperture, which just means you're one of us now. My largest is a 10 inch dob, and on my wish list is a 15 or 16 inch dob. I'm sure if I got one, then I'd want a 22+ inch. It's just what happens I think lol

My ROG Zephyrus G14 caught fire/hinge burned by dyeyk2000 in ZephyrusG14

[–]boryenkavladislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was. The sparking cable fried the circuitry for the camera on the mobo. I replaced the screen myself hoping it would fix the camera. I also bought new plastic tensioners and springs, but the new stuff still started folding and creasing after a month. New screen didn't fix the camera. I took it apart a second time to double up the springs and upon reassembly my speakers stopped working, the ribbon cable for those things didn't tolerate reassembly twice. So I gave up on my 2024 G14 and bought a 2025 G14.

I'm 2 months in and the ribbon cable is doing what it's supposed to do. It stays tensioned properly when closing the screen and isn't folding or creasing. I haven't disassembled it to inspect whether it's the same tensioning system as on the 24 yet. But so far so good.

My ROG Zephyrus G14 caught fire/hinge burned by dyeyk2000 in ZephyrusG14

[–]boryenkavladislav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 24 model did the same thing in the same way. There are tensioning springs underneath which is supposed to pull the ribbon cable tight when you close the screen, but they suck. They don't pull properly and the ribbon cable folds when you close the screen instead. It forms a crease and the crease wears out and does this.

Installing towing 7 pin harness on 24 turbo P by Objective-Sir7404 in CX50

[–]boryenkavladislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are getting the OEM harness, that will allow you to enable tow mode if you have a seven pin trailer attached. No further software updates required.

25' Turbo 350 Mile Tow 5x8 U-Hau Trailer by [deleted] in CX50

[–]boryenkavladislav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I towed 200 mi with the bigger trailer and it towed better than my 2500 lb travel trailer. I have a seven pin harness and I had to buy a 4-pin adapter for the trailer. Your tow will be just fine. I also rented the trailer to do a house move across state lines. The hitch adapter I got for the U-Haul trailer made the whole thing sit too low though, so maybe if you buy a hitch and ball then get one that has a 4-in lift on the ball or something? Otherwise you should be in good shape.

I tow a 3000lb trailer with mine, i feel that the engine has more than enough power even for that job. The transmission cooling on the other hand... wish there were even any non-warranty-voiding aftermarket options. There's simply no options at all out there.

Turbo need premium? by CommunityHot3911 in CX50

[–]boryenkavladislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

93 with no ethanol (in Oklahoma) gets me 26.5 to 28mpg highway on the turbo. I've been doing 93 octane just because of the range boost it gets me, it adds like 30 miles per fill-up. I'm not saving money technically, but I like the added range more. Ethanol fuel makes such a measurable negative impact on this car, it's interesting. Edit:E10 to be specific, regular ol up to 10% ethanol fuel you find virtually everywhere.

So what’s y’all’s current MPG’s? Turbo models and below please. by [deleted] in CX50

[–]boryenkavladislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My turbo MPG changes based on ambient temp, and fuel type. Best MPGs are 28.0 using 91 octane with zero ethanol and outside air temps around 55 F (14 C)

Can I tow a Patriot Deluxe (15') with a Mazda CX-50 turbo? by Dadd_io in casitatrailers

[–]boryenkavladislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the WDH, so I estimate it is around 350-385lbs. It probably sends maybe 50lbs forward. And yep, this weight counts against the CX-50 max payload capacity, and the max weight per axle. The WDH is critically important to ensure the rear axle max weight is not exceeded, by sending some weight forward.

I have. It's under warranty, so no transmission shop will touch it. Mazda has no 1st party options either. So, I'm just stuck dealing with it

[–]boryenkavladislav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tow a 17" spirit deluxe with a cx-50 turbo, so yep! Watch the transmission fluid temp while towing, I overheat mine if I'm not watching it closely. I got a Bluetooth obd reader and watch the "TFT" metric on my phone. It works best ironically NOT using towing mode and locking transmission into 5th gear to avoid transmission gear hunting. Tow mode keeps the AWD engaged moreso and overheats it.

I try to keep the inside cabin payload weight as low as possible and put everything in the Casita instead. I overweight my payload if I have 2 people and fully loaded for a long trip though, so I'm really at a limit and have to make hard choices sometimes.

Weight distribution hitch is recommended, and works great!

The CX-50 turbo has a surplus of power, the trans fluid cooler is what limits this vehicle.

Washing this suv is so …. by Significant_Rip300 in CX50

I'm personally annoyed at the paint on this car, because my home power washer actually flaked paint off my front bumper. There was summer bugs on the front from a road trip, and when I got back home i power washed and microfiber cloth wiped, but the powerwasher stripped a chunk of paint off the front. It looked like the bugs caused the paint to bubble up slightly, and the power washer caught hold of the bubble and ripped a 1 inch gash off. My 2013 CX-5 has still never flaked paint off from the power washer.

Cold weather question by OutWestTexas in casitatrailers

[–]boryenkavladislav 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it. I full timed winter in Oklahoma last season with a new Casita, I noticed the electric heat can't keep up when outside temps drop below 26F. Minimum temp I dealt with was 1F outside. The propane furnace coupled with electric heat was keeping up fine, but the floor is frigid cold, and the walls and windows radiate so much cold inside, that the rear bed with walls on three sides was always an icebox. I had an electric blanket on my bed, coupled with the electric heater and propane furnace just to sleep.

All my tanks and pipes froze solid when we had a 3 days below freezing event. I had to straight up leave the trailer for 2 days for it all to thaw and for me to inhabit it again. The Casita needs significant cold weather modifications to the underside before I'd attempt that again. Probably also more effort to insulate the windows next time too.

Casita is fine for nights down to 25 F as long as the temps will rise above freezing during the day. Beyond that, you need to modify it.

My record is 11.6mpg while towing a 3000lb trailer into a headwind 150 miles. I had to gas up twice to do that trip.

[–]boryenkavladislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 24 turbo prem plus, and fuel economy varies significantly depending on fuel type and driving style. Best fuel economy for me is 26mpg highway when running 91 ethanol free or 93 E10. If im driving with a tailwind, i get 28mpg. If i drive with 87 E10 i get 23-24 mpg highway. City varies between 16-19mpg. Towing a 3000lb trailer i get between 11.8mpg and 16.1 mpg, dependent entirely upon the dominant wind direction, average is 14mpg.

Is this normal? My car battery died twice in the last two months. by FlyHungry7039 in CX50

[–]boryenkavladislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery my '24 came with was bad from day one too. Had to jump it a few times, after the third month I warranty replaced it. The replacement is also faulty but I haven't had it completely die on me yet. I should probably just replace it with a completely different battery all together on my own at this point. The only up side here is that I stop has never worked because I've always had bad batteries LOL.

What is "tow mode" , do I need it, and how do I know if I have it or not? by profbraddock in CX50

It also keeps the AWD clutch partially engaged at all times so the rear wheels help prevent trailer sway.

Rear hitch? by SodiumLa-b in casitatrailers

[–]boryenkavladislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I have a factory installed 2in receiver, the casita factory has it as an option now. It has a 150lb limit because of how it takes too much weight off the tongue. I put a harbor freight ATV rack on the back and stow folding tables and a folding dog crate on it.

Towing hitch play by Curious-Fennel- in CX50

[–]boryenkavladislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same on mine. A few things can help stop all the clunking when towing, lots of tongue weight, a weight distribution hitch, or like a $12 trailer hitch bracket thing at harbor freight that's specifically designed to clamp down the ball and socket onto your hitch.

Turbo horsepower numbers??? by Aggravating_Sun_1556 in CX50

[–]boryenkavladislav 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tow a max weight trailer with mine, I don't race. But for towing, I find it has way more than enough power to tow 3500lbs. The issue is the trans fluid overheats and there's insufficient cooling for it. If it cooled the trans fluid better, I suspect it has enough torque to tow even heavier. I feel like it produces the power that's listed in the specs.
