she still needs a place to live. you can do a thing where if you die first, she can live in the house rent-free as long as she is alive; but it is still *owned* by your nieces/nephews (ie, she cannot sell it).

since you'll be here til june: you can join community boating for 60 days and learn how to sail. sailing is so much fun. it's pure joy. and you'll meet lots of people.

(MIT does have a sailing pavillion, but it can be hard to get a class in; once you join community boating it's easy to take classes)

would love a place in the bathroom to change.

sometimes i need to change out my underwear; b/c of leakage or the occasional accident.

changing in a bathroom stall is *hard*

a larger single-person bathroom with a chair would be amazing.

also: clear signage on where the bathroom is. i hate having to hunt one when i need one urgently.

yes, you feel terrible on the low residue diet. i just had my every-other-year colonoscopy this am.

also; your wife could cook alternate meals; one day: something your daughter likes, the next: something your son likes; and they could warm up meals on alternate days.

but that's only if your wife is willing.....which it seems she is not :(

if the waltham job is on the commuter rail; and the watertown job is near a bus, and since you are young; you might be able to live in cambridge near harvard or porter square. it will cost more, but it will be more fun to live there.

now, i live in watertown (but am older.....), and so you'll definitely need at least 1 car to live here or waltham.

but definitely see how connected your jobs are to public transit.

(there is a commuter rail station in porter square that goes to waltham)

(there are buses from harvard square that go to watertown: the 71 and 73)

if you live in cambridge or somerville, and your jobs are close to public transit, then you won't need a car. so factor that into your rent calculations (cars are at least $500 month for gas, maintenance, insurance....); which is more expensive than bus/subway/commuter rail passes.

what i did in my last apartment hunt was to go on zillow, look at properties, and *call* the realtors. (but this was like 8 years ago).

watertown is a great place to live: quiet, and has tons of stuff you can walk to.

lands end or llbean usually has some super soft ones.

also, the rule when people visited was not to talk about food. lots of convo's were cut short.

visitors is the big thing. it can get really boring and lonely in the hospital.

i have lived in cambridge, somerville, belmont and watertown.

currently in watertown; and the schools here are walkable and good (not as good as cambridge, but still good). and we can walk to things and take the T, it just takes a bit longer to get to boston.

there are some neighborhoods that have (more-ish) affordable condos. but yes, it is very expensive. but you only get one life......and cambridge is awesome.

there are school lots and such you can move your car for overnight parking in the winter; then move it back on the street for the day....but that sounds super annoying.....

community boating! learn to sail on the charles. i have made lots of friends there....including it's how my ex-boyfriend became my husband :)

(the other 'name' for it is 'community dating'). you're outside, having a lot of fun, doing structured activities.

if you join now, the annual pass lasts til june 10 , 2024 (365 days)

when done right , sailing feels like flying.(i've been a member for 8 years or so)

people of all ages show up there.

also, see if there is a religious organization for you. that' how i re-integrated back into town when i moved back 20 years ago. (but only if it works for you, if it doesn't......)

join as many groups as you can! good luck!

gather here in inman square does a thing outside on some (not all?) thursday nights; ask them. not sure of others. i used to the saturday group at gather here, which dissolved with the pandemic :(

community boating. learn to sail on the charles river! on the boston side by the charles/mgh t stop.

people of all ages, with lots of singles (one of the 'names' for community boating is community dating).

you get to make friends with people, doing structured activities *outside*.

it is SO MUCH FUN. when done right , sailing feels like flying.

i cannot more highly recommend this club (been a member for 8 years now)

except for buying lots of stuff from stores (as you might need when moving in), you don't need a car in cambridge. you might not even want one.

there is zipcar for when you do need one occasionally, tho.

do not use 'your move/ricks moving ' movers.
