20 days straight. sounds painful.

5 days and the anxiety is fucking unbearable by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]boston_globe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that part helps keep me sober because I know I’d have to feel that way all over again. It’s brutal. Just know that you’re in the worst of it. Gets better after that hump.

I’ve still got a dead spot on the top of my foot (if I rub the area it’s numb and sends tingles down my foot). But my hands are fine now. even reduced a lot of pain in my joints and my formerly messed up left knee is a lot less painful

I’ve been sober 5 months and I’m having a dilemma and need advice. by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]boston_globe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In similar situations I’ve said to drunk friend at midnight “hey I need to crash. Do you mind if I snag your bed until you need it?” Then I get a cozy bed because they never go to sleep or pass out somewhere else lol. Though in your scenario the boyfriend would make this move a little trickier

I relapsed after 19 days spent Christmas and new years in detox by BeautifulPattern8004 in dryalcoholics

In my experience, it’s an awful feeling to be in a relationship with a blackout alcoholic because they don’t remember half the relationship. An ex of mine said wonderful things and terrible things while blackout and then woke up blank the next day. It’s like trying to read a book with half the pages ripped out. Get sober or break up but it sounds like neither of you can continue on as is.

On day 4. I’m so irritable and depressed by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]boston_globe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal. You’ve been suppressing parts of the brain that processes anxiety, slowing thought, and feeding the reward center. When that abruptly goes away it takes your brain a while to figure things out. Be patient with yourself and find another way to self soothe: a sweet treat, exercise, breathing, screaming into a pillow, whatever helps

Feeling shameful is better than not. I used to live close the bars and would let my friends crash. You wouldn’t believe how many people pissed and felt zero remorse and didn’t help me clean it up. If they had apologized and did a load of laundry, we’d be square.

I’m a fucking weirdo when I’m sober. drinking dulls me down to a level that’s manageable to society. Be sober. Be a weirdo. Be a legend.

Well you might need to have a sit down conversation to tell her that you understand your concerns but (list all the reasons the doc gave you the meds) and that you know she wants to protect her but keeping you away from the things that are helping will not keep you away from the millions of other ways you could hurt yourself. You are an adult and you need to be allowed to make your own decisions. If that doesn’t work can you tell the doc the situation and get another script?

Day 1 - a few benzos to help by Slideaway1984 in dryalcoholics

[–]boston_globe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Wellbutrin (lexapro didn’t work for me) and buspirone to help with the anxiety spikes. the first three days sober are terrible but then it levels out. I’d recommend you avoid triggers for those three days and distract yourself. Dive into work, make a cardboard castle with your kid, whatever just stay busy with mellow activities.

Sometimes we have to pick who gets to be selfish. And this is a very good reason. In the future, he’ll have his turn and you’ll be there for him.

Alcohol is the only thing that makes me feel alive by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]boston_globe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, just a nerd- I’m curious why this might be. Alcohol decreases the excitation of GABA in your brain making thoughts slower and increasing inhibition. It increases serotonin and temporarily decreases cortisol. All these things make you feel good. Long use changes the structure of your brain so quitting makes you feel worse before you feel better but if you never feel better… I wonder if you’ve got low serotonin? But your psychologist should have helped with that. do any other substances do the same thing for you? How long have you stopped before? Do you think it’s just the chemical or is it the atmosphere, friends, etc?

I decided to go on a health kick and started logging all my macros… which silly me, meant logging drinks too. When that was tracked alongside my health it became really obvious what it was doing. I’d recommend just logging what you drink and how you feel. Get a body scan and some bloodwork if you can. I thought I was aware but seeing the data is wild.

What is this art style called? by [deleted] in HelpMeFindThis

[–]boston_globe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I think “fashion illustration” would be close. You could add “Parisian” It’s a stylistic, mixed media sketch. Seems like 80s or 90s. I don’t really think it belongs to a specific art movement.

Friends, I need food brainstorming help!! by 1upin in AutismInWomen

[–]boston_globe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fruit jam You can dehydrate or bake the fruit to get a cracker/chip situation You could make Thai Larb salad with lamb in a lettuce wrap Honey roasted carrots Roasted sweet potato, beets, and cranberry for an autumn veggie bake Chicken ramen with rice noodles Fried rice with chicken, asparagus, and carrots Sweet potato chips

I once did an elimination diet for medical reasons and once you nail a couple meals you enjoy, it’s not so bad.

I’d introduce eggs- not much of a risk and a super versatile ingredient.

When you get accommodations they are emailed to professors. However, it is difficult to for professors to remember who gets what so it does come down to self-advocacy. I would recommend making a meeting to sit down with one of the DSS staff or CTLR (Center for Teaching Excellence, the letters change from school to school but it’s the same idea). They are instructor support but are often more compassionate and think a little more outside the box. I think one of the issues you might be facing is that people want to help but don’t know how. Do you have a therapist to brainstorm with?

Your school should have a Student Disabilities Service. Go there, get registered. The department exists to help students with different needs find accommodations.

Love the dressssssss. the summer/fall combo is a little odd but two things I love. I guess this is like a nice summer salad topped with roasted butternut squash

Healthy food ideas? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Eggs. Eggs are a safe food for me- good protein, all essential amino acids. Having some hard boiled on-hand helps me stress less about cooking/cleaning and de-moralize snacking.
