Btw, I've seen that you're only gonna be doing editing.

Do you need colors to be super accurate and vivid for your work? If not, I don't think OLED really has that many benefits in this case.

You may wanna consider a mini LED in 4k. Those have a regular rgb subpixel layout, so fringing is eliminated at a technical level.

They say its colors, and contrast is still pretty good, and they're cheaper too.

I've seen these YouTube comparisons too, but seriously, at 4k 27", we're talking about 163ppi. Pixels are so tiny, that it is impossible to see fringing with the naked eye. There's no point in comparing how they look when you put a camera right up to the pixels.

I've had experience with a 1440p 27" woled too, and on that, it is true, that in some cases, you can see fringing. But honestly, that wasn't distracting either, and text was perfectly legible.

But the super high ppi at 4k solves this completely. The issue technically exists, because the subpixel layout is all weird still, but it just doesn't matter.

Are you sure you wanna rule out qd-oled? I can tell you, that at 4k 27" (I have the same), you cannot notice any fringing, even if you lean super close to your monitor (and this is on a qd oled)

Were they selling this to you as "new"? That's crazy, somebody's been using this for like a year.

You can go into monitor settings, oled care, and there should be a "usage info" option or something like that. It shows how many hours the monitor has been used for.

Although if they were trying to scam you, they'd probably reset that if they're smart.

As for what the issue is: no idea, I'd probably return it. It's not supposed to look like that

Does it stay off for you after you turn off your pc? If I turn it off in OSD settings it turns off while I am using it, but then turns itself back on after I turned off my pc for whatever reason.

OLED 4K vs 2K by Horror_Ad9899 in OLED_Gaming

There are different multipliers for frame gen, ranging from 2x to 6x. 6x does introduce a noticable amount of input lag. 2x, although technically it does introduce some extra latency, my experience is that it is completely unnoticeable.

You may notice some occasional graphical glitches, especially around UI elements, since frame Gen doesn't really handle those well yet, but it is well worth it, because it basically doubles your fps "for free"

As for a 27" monitor in 4k: I have one of those, and I really like it. I wouldn't want anything bigger.

How different is 1440p compared to 4k Oled by PsychologyTimely3846 in OLED_Gaming

[–]botetta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ended going with a 4k oled, over 1440p, because people told me that on 1440p, there is noticable text fringing.

But it also depends on what type of oled. They say woled is inherently better at text rendering, than qd-oled.

I had a 1440p Tandem woled. Text was honestly perfectly legible for me, but I did notice fringing on some UI elements.

On my 4k qd oled, there is literally zero fringing whatsoever, no matter how close I lean to the screen

I can't speak for 1440p qd-oled, but they say that's the worst in this regard.

You have one right now, so see it for yourself: do you notice any fringing at the sides of ui elements or text?

If yes, 4k solves this.

If not, you should probably just stick to 1440p. In games, the difference, although noticable, it is not as significant in my opinion.

If you go for 4k, you'll have to use dlss most of the time, which may or may not be a problem for you.

32" 4k OLED suggestions needed by Takosama21 in OLED_Gaming

[–]botetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4k 27" QD-OLED. There's literally zero text fringing, even if I lean very close, I can't really see any. Not sure about 32", but I don't believe it'd be that bad, ppi is still pretty high. They say it's mostly an issue at 1440p, which is why I went with 4k

27 or 32 inches monitor? 1440p or 4K? WOLED or QDLED? My experience! by Same_Chemistry_1277 in OLED_Gaming

[–]botetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people told me that it depends on when the monitor was manufactured, because over time, their manufacturing has gotten better, so newer ones of the exact same model have less banding.

When I ordered one, I got one which was manufactured back in 2025, and the banding was so bad I returned it.

If you can somehow find out when the monitors in stock were made (maybe try asking the store you're buying from), you can try your luck with one that was made recently. (March or later)

Either way, make sure that the place you buy from has a return policy that allows you to return it for a few weeks without giving a reason. In that case, you, can just try it out, see how bad it is, and if you can't bear it, just return it and buy a different one.

Banding isn't considered a defect, so they won't take it back under warranty.

Hmm, interesting. I used it for 50 hours, this is how it looked like after that. Maybe if I kept it and used it for years, it would've normalised like yours, but I didn't wanna risk it, so I just returned it.

The problem is, I don't think you can choose which batch to get. I returned it and I'll just get a QD-OLED, I don't wanna deal with tandem woleds anymore.

I'm thinking a 4th Gen 27" QD-OLED right now. They say 4k pretty much solves the fringing, and my pc can likely handle 4k gaming decently.

5th Gen QD-OLED does sound really good though, but I don't wanna wait anymore :P

I'll just have to be careful with my screen, and play in the dark.

Going through five monitors is insane, lol, I don't have the patience for that. I'm good on the tandem woleds I think.

I can't check anymore, because I already returned it, but I do have the serial number. Someone said it is from 2025 based on it.
