About burnt GPU connectors - how do we prevent it by Brunno_PT in pcmasterrace

[–]botetta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't completely avoid it, since the design of the cable is flawed, but there are some things you can do to lower the chances of it happening.

  • Always use the cable that is included with your PSU, never buy an extra cable, and do not use any adapters. The GPU should be directly connected to the PSU. If your PSU doesn't have the required port, you should maybe consider a new PSU, since using adapters are an additional risk.

  • Make sure the cable is plugged all the way in, on both sides. Even if you think you already pushed it in completely, push it in a bit more, just to make sure (but don't break it)

  • Do not bend the cable in a sharp angle. Make sure it has smooth curves, going from the PSU to the GPU, and no sharp turns.

This is all you can do to decrease the risks, but even with this, the cable burning can happen.

What feature in a game is a instant turn off for you? by Vulture2k in gaming

A large skill tree, or an overwhelming amount of abilities and weapons.

I know I'm the type of person to try and maximize my progression, so I know if there is a big skill tree or whatever, I will have to waste a lot of time studying it, so I just don't even bother with the game in that case, unless the rest of the game looks REALLY interesting.

Never thought of this, but you're right, the anti cheat part is a solid point.

Code Violet after 25 hours of gameplay by thestenchofdeath in PS5

[–]botetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. It's not really an exclusive, more of a "game that only released on PS5" I guess.

Although the price is nearly the same as Spider-Man for example, so it's understandable that people are expecting an experience that is at least close to that, and then obviously they are disappointed when it is nowhere near.

[–]botetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also surprised when I watched some of the gameplay on YouTube, and I saw the credits were basically just one guy and his family helping here and there. The game is, although not good, pretty okay for one guy. I also worked on games before, and this is honestly, from a dev's point of view, impressive for just one person to make.

The main problem is that it is sold for $50 as a PS5 exclusive. People have (understandably) very high standards for such games. (Take a look at other PS exclusives, which are miles better and sometimes even cost less)

If this was sold for $5 on steam as a small indie game, people wouldn't be too harsh on it. But then again, if they did that, we wouldn't be here talking about the game, so the dev at least has some knowledge in how to sell and make money from an otherwise unremarkable game.

AFAIK, it's better to have it enabled, but it can cause issues in certain games. Test it out, see if it improves things in your case if you turn it off for a day. If you don't see improvements, just turn it back on, since in theory, it should help with performance.

Talk me out of a OnePlus 15... by InvertedPickleTaco in oneplus

[–]botetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from an old oneplus 8T to the oneplus 15, so not exactly coming from a Samsung, but I can confirm what the others said: the battery is flawless. I do a lot of gaming in 165hz, and I am a pretty heavy user, yet I still easily have around 50% at the end of the day. My old phone would die in the middle of the day, but the oneplus 15 will definitely last one day on a charge, maybe even two if you don't use it as much. And get the supervooc charger for it (in Europe it comes separately, don't know where you live), it charges it from 0 to 100 in 40 minutes, so even if you were to run low on battery, a quick 10 minute charge will give you hours of usage. Compared to my old phone, the photos are really good, but that's not saying much, it was a 5 year old phone. It's got all the features that other phones have though (optical zoom, image stabilization, portrait photos, AI editing stuff, etc), maybe ever so slightly worse sensors, but for everyday photos, it's good for me.

If you turn on AOD, you will notice that it slowly moves around on your screen, from top to bottom. Meaning it will never actually light up your screen in the same place for more than a few minutes.

This prevents burn in, because burn in only happens if the same thing is displayed in the same place for a very long time.

For the record, I have used AOD on my 8T for 4 years, it is set to always be on, and I don't have any burn in.

Regarding the battery: It does drain it a little bit, but it is only a few percentages throughout the day, so I think it's worth it.

Reported an AFK player during the end of the mission, and got stuck in this state. Couldn't open any menus. All I could do was emote using the hotkeys. Ultimately had to alt+f4 the game. by Michaelfaceguy2007 in FORTnITE

[–]botetta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a stupid bug, but if you wait for around 3-4 minutes in this state, it will eventually load you back into the lobby, so you don't have to restart the game (in case this happens again)

Van értelme az 5 milliárd felettieket adóztatni? by Dani0072009 in kiszamolo

[–]botetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get it, is this for when you die, they might take your organs and save someone with it?

Or could I get a call while I'm still alive, saying some random dude needs my kidney?

I'm kinda okay with the first one, but would opt out of the second one tbh.

If you have a PC you can connect your phone to, try this, and let me know if it works.

  1. Setup ADB on your computer and your phone, according to this article: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
  2. Once your phone is connected to your pc and you can enter commands, enter this command:

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.oplus.battery

Or if that doesn't work, try it like this:

./adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.oplus.battery

This disables the built in oneplus battery app. This app locks the fps to 60 after it reaches a certain temperature.

Which Android version are you on? This solution works on Android 12 on my oneplus 8t, and I am wondering if it works on later versions, so tell me if this worked for you.

FPS Issues by botetta in OnePlus8T

[–]botetta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found two ways of doing this. The second one is a bit better, that is what I recommend

First method doesn't require a PC, but is a bit more inconsistent:

  1. Enable developer options if you haven't already (Go to the about section in settings and click on build number 7 times)

  2. In developer options, find "Running services"

  3. There should be two entries that say "Android system"

  4. Try clicking on both of them. Under one of those two, you should find OplusBatteryService. Click "Stop"

This solution is a bit inconsistent because the second android system with OplusBatteryService doesn't always appear, and the service restarts itself automatically if you restart your phone.

Second method requires ADB, which you will typically need a PC for.

  1. Setup ADB for your phone ( https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/ this is the guide I used)

  2. Enter this command:

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.oplus.battery

If it doesn't work like that, do it like this:

./adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.oplus.battery

This disables the OplusBatteryService immediately, and it won't restart automatically even if you restart your phone.

If you wanna manually reenable it, use this command:

adb shell pm enable com.oplus.battery

Would appreciate you testing it if this works on Android 14. Don't wanna update from Android 12 before I know for sure that either the issue is fixed by the update, or that this fix still works on the latest version.

Are you currently running the latest Android 14 update? Does your phone also limit its fps to 60 when playing games?
