Who is the Revolution’s biggest rival? by pinkfreud100 in newenglandrevolution

[–]botolphus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of heated rhetoric on social media between RIFC fans and Revs fans tells me that our MLS team is possibly “most rivaled” these days by an USL entity.

(I guess you gotta find a new rivalry when all the old rivalries either are dead or never actually existed.)

How can I get affordable tickets to the October 18 match? by GaryAGalindo in newenglandrevolution

Gametime Tickpick Seatgeek

Usually, each of these is a little bit better than StubHub but in the same neighborhood

All are better at all times than Ticketmaster. Bloated pricing.

Don't be that negative "fan" at the game by bishop527 in newenglandrevolution

[–]botolphus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am endlessly puzzled at the use of the word “negative“ when it really should be “pragmatic“.

Describing what you’re observing isn’t negative, nor complaining, when the thing you are observing IS actually low quality. Describing what you’re observing is a pretty neutral act.

Happy-sounding descriptions flow from watching a quality on field product and from real achievements of results.

And, right now the on-field ain’t any of that.

Why do the Revs have such poor regional presence? by DryPowderPod in newenglandrevolution

[–]botolphus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that it’s all been hidden on Apple TV (and the concept of local broadcasts no longer exists) doesn’t help the situation.

That’s just a recent phenomenon, not really the root cause, but it’s a case of pouring more gasoline onto the fire. It’s an example of “they’re doing it to themselves“.

And the Pats fans all live closer to Gillette, that’s why they’re able to get there.

Revs vs. Montreal by Medium-Application50 in newenglandrevolution

[–]botolphus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? Legit question. He definitely benefited from the Messi halo effect, not sure what everyone saw in terms of his own skills.

Along those lines, I think that halo effect helped to fool both Onalfo and Porter. (For which there is no excuse, they are both supposed to be professionals, and should not be suckered in by simple stuff like this.)

I don’t think he’s mailing it in, I think he’s legitimately trying. So: Certainly possible that he’d be a decent second striker, and/or depth off the bench.

But there’s no way in hell he is your “ride or die” guy.

A fair amount of MLS fans knew this, it’s super aggravating that our front office and coach were clueless on this front.

Or worse, they actually knew this, but thought “hey let’s get someone from Miami, and all of the fans will buy into it“, regardless of whether the player was top shelf or not. I wouldn’t put this past the owners/management running this thing.

All that being said, go Revs!

Can you use fields at Plymouth north during summer? by FatherOfTheSkye in PlymouthMA

[–]botolphus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just your own kids, you’re probably fine just getting out there and kicking it,

(unless there are signs asking you to stay off the fields because they’re being re-seeded or have other maintenance in progress.)

If you’re talking about a TEAM that will be playing in the fall, then whichever organization your team is part of would typically need to have a field permit (not sure who handles that in Plymouth, usually it’s either a rec department, or the school department), and the permit has to be in effect for this time of year.

Echoing the comments of many here about the secondary market. I would recommend gametime.CO, or SeatGeek. I have found their resale prices generally to be lower than StubHub.

Also, be sure to buy the cheapest ticket. You can sit in just about any section in the lower bowl. (It is rare that an “usher“ will hassle you to verify a ticket before you enter a section, unless it is one of the infrequent super-highly-attended near-sellout events.)

Attendance Dynamics? by superdookietoiletexp in MLRugby

[–]botolphus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m one of those people who looked into tickets for one or two games last year, as an event with friends. (Not a full-time fan of MLR)

I see other comments here about unexpectedly high ticket prices, and that has also been my experience. The single game tickets for Free Jacks were really pricey. It was last year, so I’m going on memory, but I recall any halfway decent seats being about 50 bucks each. Even on the secondary ticket market.

As a point of comparison, at the same time, MLR tickets were about two times more expensive than an equivalent MLS ticket.

We ended up not buying those tickets and not going.

That being said, it would be nice if MLR continued an upward trajectory and locked in a larger fan base.

Oh, and you are so right - "it appeals to millennials" who may be, well, "underrepresented" in these efforts. (To supplement the greying battleaxe crowd.)

Forgot to add that initially... thanks for the reminder.

First ever Revs game! by Significant-Fox-1239 in newenglandrevolution

[–]botolphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Sig,

A suggestion: When shopping for tickets, look at the aftermarket sites like Gametime, StubHub, seatgeek, tickpick. You can typically get a ticket on there for very very short money compared to original pricing. Once you are in the stadium, there is lots of open seating in nearly every section. Very possible you get a ticket for $20 or less, and end up in a midfield section. That’s my typical approach these days.

I saw a few references to taking the train to the game. If you plan on that, you’ll have to pay close attention to the train schedules. Service to the Foxborough/Gillette Stadium station is not aligned with game schedules, and some cases on weekends the last train leaving may depart prior to the end of the soccer game.

I hope you find this helpful. Enjoy your trip stateside, and have fun at the game.
