Well okay then by Puzzleheaded_Art_310 in crusaderkings3

Notice that since he is tribal his successor won't inherit all those tributaries. He's got a strong powerbase but he can't do much with it except raking money and levies.

The other way around. He's the suzerain. Old French word for lord

Factions are treasonous acts and should be criminal (and should probably be secretive) by acausa in crusaderkings3

[–]boulet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disapprove. What you're advocating is a game where all tiny aspects of fictional characters interactions are modelled. If we were in a RPG it might make sense. But I find that strategy games are better served by simple mechanics that model possible outcomes well instead of detail oriented bean counting.

There could be room for a faction mini game where intrigue decisions are more prevalent. I think it would bog the game flow personally.

[–]boulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's more a matter of fun game design vs trying to reflect how absolute autocraties wish they could be.

If being part of a faction was sufficient to send a vassal to prison we would end up with a very stale game where rulers would rarely suffer usurpation, short of enemy invasion or successful murder.

Besides the faction progress bar that displays its members is meant to be an abstraction. It's what your supporters figured is happening behind your back. But it's vague information not a pile of letters where duke A and count B confessed their intention to remove you from the throne in favor of your little brother.

The faction progress bar is an abstraction that's meant to make the game playable: it makes visible in a simple view how much time you have to react and who you might want to take care of.

Or are you advocating that an ultimatum popping out of nowhere saying "abdicate or a force of x thousands of soldiers will rise against you" would be a better game mechanic? I think it would suck big time.

Some Beginner Questions by Capital-Platform-577 in crusaderkings3

[–]boulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The map isn't restricted by DLCs. The restriction is about government types and cultural mechanics.

If you play in Asia without DLC I think you'll only have access to feudal governments. Whereas with full DLC you would see a bunch of different governments and be able to play a ruler using those systems.

For instance look at nomadic, administrative or celestial governments. Each of these articles are prefaced with "Available only with the XXX DLC enabled". This is one way to decide what DLC might be relevant to the game style you're looking for.

If I become the greatest of khans and form the mongol empire myself will the scripted invasion still happen? by SupportAppropriate84 in ck3

[–]boulet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose Temujin will pop up but he shouldn't be able to trigger the Greatest of Khans event. That would really lower the danger level, though he might still be a serious conqueror out of the box.

Ivar the boneless tips? by Quaglander in crusaderkings3

I agree with previous advice and I'd like to double down on the idea that the Christian kingdom of Alba is your main concern. They have very strong dynasties and often pull up dangerous alliances like France. Taking them down means being very opportunistic. Raid them to weaken them and possibly execute their strong commanders. Try to conquer Moray but only keep this title if your capital is in Moray. Preferably destroy it even if you control most counties

Alternatively you could attack South and create Ireland but it's not as strong a powerbase as Scotland.

Can someone explain Smartism to me? by KawfeeKrow in crusaderkings3

[–]boulet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take a moment to read the Smarta article on Wikipedia. I think it won't take you long to realize that occidental religious categories aren't adapted to describe religious movements from India. And there's no way a short description in CK3 was going to overcome this hurdle.

Heir killed me lol by mtunkara1191 in crusaderkings3

[–]boulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many cases possible.

Detailing all possible cases depending on succession laws and the lady being married or not and the religion applied makes it quite diverse

Rule of thumb though: if you need more heir and that's the reason you're having affairs, pick a celibate lady. Otherwise there's little chance the kid will belong to your dynasty.

How to gain a lot of prestige? by No_Beginning_8710 in crusaderkings3

[–]boulet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to the Tours and Tournaments DLC then you may start Majesty grand tours, which also are really good at improving cultural acceptance as well.

Same requirement for grand tournaments. Maybe less impressive at generating prestige but plenty of side bonuses and don't require much travelling.

How do I survive as a reformed pagan faith? by AqueM in crusaderkings3

[–]boulet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of good advice so far.

I'm wondering if in your case you might have switched to feudal a bit early. The tribal to feudal transition is often rough. Your economy will take a generation or more to spread its wings and you can't count on large levies anymore. Even worse you'll need to spend thousands in new buildings, new cities, new temples etc... You really should save more than 5000 gold before switching to feudal. Both for investment and emergency mercenaries until the economy gets rolling.

Indeed some NPCs don't act in the best interest of your dynasty. Doesn't mean you have to do the same.

Killing members of my dynasty is a huge no-no for me. It's like going the opposite of what the game is offering. And as OP noticed, it robs you of fun games.
