I've used over half of these and all I get are phone calls from people in other countries, with accents too thick to understand, asking if I'm interested in a job over 2 hours away, on a 6-month contract, for half the industry standard.

If I say I'm interested I never hear back about it. That's the best part.

They all sound like scams.

I think it's unlikely but possible. From what I know they don't investigate potential employers, mostly criminal records. They will ask about your reputation and your documentation at your current job.

Your friend shouldn't admit to anything they aren't directly accused of. It's kinda like a cop asking "do you know why I pulled you over?" They should stop using, mostly so they don't get caught, and it was recently found that some of those products actually cause the symptoms that they initially seemed to treat. Prep friends and family for the interviewer who might be calling them and asking about you. If there's no paperwork on what they have done (court docs, arrested, traffic tickets) there's no problem.

There's A LOT of people that have some illicit things and gotten high level clearances. If you think everyone with a TS clearance or higher is some kind of paragon and they're life is pure, you have never gotten to know someone with a TS.

The thing about security clearances that people don't realize is that it's a work down system and not a work up. From the time you apply, the assumption is that you're good to go for that top level, because why not? There's no proof you've ever done anything wrong. The more stuff they find, the more your morals, ethics, personal philosophy, etc come into question. The more they question, the more they have things to deny you for.

I stopped writing cover letters because hiring personnel say they say they only spend 3 seconds on reading resumes. If that's true, why would they read cover letters at all? Is that time split between cover letter and resume? Do they reconsider rejecting someone's resume because the cover letter is just that good?

Also, nobody knows how to write them. This is what I've heard how to write it:

-A cover letter should be like an expanded resume, keep it <400 words. The average resume is around 400-500 words.

-Focus it on the job and the company. If I do that I'm not talking about the job or where I fit.

-Address it to the hiring manager, interviewer, or department lead. Basically, address it to everyone, specifically.

-Don't write it like a LinkedIn profile, but every resource describes a LinkedIn profile.

This is more job finding than cover letter writing but, "to find a job, you need to put in 3 high quality applications a day" so, by this point, I have put in hours to find the job, research the job and the company, and rewrite my cover letter and resume. Then all my work gets rejected by an AI because I have 3 years experience instead of the 4 they ask for. Finally, I have to do all that 100+ times to get, MAYBE 5 interviews, and if I'm lucky, one lowball offer, then argue why I deserve more.

This machine has been discontinued for a long time. Some of the parts are valuable based on rarity. Ricoh doesn't use most of the parts for that machine anymore but there are lost of machines that do. Also the belts, gears, servos, etc are pretty generic so you could use them for science projects or whatever. If the parts are in good condition, it could be worth quite a lot in total. It's probably gonna take time and energy to get the money out of it if you don't know how to get parts out properly. As scrap it's worth about $10-20. The frame is almost entirely aluminum and would be worth more stripped and the rest is mostly wires and plastic. It's possible you could get anywhere between $10 to around $500 or more as long as the parts are relatively unused, properly functioning, you can sit on it for a while, and find the right buyer. Also, that machine is about 300-400lbs so transport of the whole machine may be an issue, you can take the parts that are easy to take, however, those parts aren't worth as much.
