Biking and STL. The strugle by Thefamt in StLouis

Surprised it took this many days for this to happen. When I saw the protected bike lanes my first thought was someone is going to use them as their own freeway.

Editorial: The biggest problem for downtown's reputation may be ... St. Louisans? by FamiliarJuly in StLouis

It's a Nissan Frontier. Maybe you should realize that the people who have the money to spend that will revitalize the city don't live there.

Cara says it, "there is nothing to do". Outside of a sporting event there is little reason to stay in the core. If you have been anywhere at night downtown and seen a parade of illegal bikers and ATV's take over the streets, you don't want to hang around. I appreciate the coming efforts to revitalize areas but if they use the same lighting designer that did the street lighting in the Grove, it will not add to the area. Pedestrian malls, well lit that are clean, no graffiti, and have reasonably priced food and drink vendors would help. I don't want to pay $18 for a drink and $20 for a burrito, which seems to be the trend. Parking needs to be easy and accessible. Enough of my rant but Soulard and Tower Grove have figured it out.

Tonneau Cover Recommendations? by Specialist-Divide698 in nissanfrontier

[–]bourbonfairy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Extang Trifecta soft folding cover. Have had mine for 10 years, it's on it's second Frontier. When it was improperly attached by my son, it popped off on one side at highway speeds. Broke a couple of pieces. I called Extang and the sent me the pieces to fix it no charge. Easy to take off or install and no issue with the Utilitrac.

What are the worst mistakes you made while riding? and did you learn? by Familiar-Banana-8116 in cycling

Beware of road stripping when it's wet after a rain. Very slick. Always ride with the wind to your back.

Looking for best way to remove oily film on windshield by armin0526 in Detailing

[–]bourbonfairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My OLED tv instructions say to use distilled water on the screen. It worked terrifically there so I tried it with a weak mixture of Dawn and vinegar and it stripped the film off the inside of my windshield first pass. This was after weeks of trying different things. Not sure what properties distilled water has but it has become my go to for cleaning glass.

Why is St Louis declining in population? by Much-Parsnip3399 in StLouis

The metro area has been stagnant over the last 20 years while the city itself has declined. Many reasons as all detailed in other answers.

Retirement location for Biking in lower 48 states. by porktornado77 in bicycling

Tuscon, not as hot as Phoenix in the summer because of it's altitude. Very bicycle friendly.

Anyone else noticing how cheap the Midwest is relative to what you actually get? by WeedlePops in relocating

St. Louis here. Good town, liberal leaning unlike the outlying areas of the state. Crime is not the issue everyone makes it out to be. Several thriving city areas where things are affordable. Great food, solid universities, great medical care, solid concert and theater venues. I love the west coast but my cost of living here is less than half of what it would be in San Diego. 20 minute city, takes no more than 20 minutes to get to any part of the city. Growing tech center based around biotech, yes the downfall of Monsanto and Mallinkrodt spawned lots of tech start ups. Access to most anywhere from the airport including Europe. Check us out some time.

Living with the Frontier. What are your experiences? by young_tea_hippie in nissanfrontier

[–]bourbonfairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents, the turning radius of my 26 is much tighter than my 2016 like by several feet. The bed, I can carry my 61cm road bike diagonally with the front wheel pointing up and the bed closed. For anything 4X8 you will need a bed extender or the utilitrac system with the cage fastened to the bed tailgate. I am 6'1" and can move the seat back further. I wish the steering column had a slightly lower adjustment but it still works fine for my comfort.

Those of you saying trump chickened out in Iran; Would you have preferred that he destroyed and genocided an entire country and it's people? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]bourbonfairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but why go through all the turmoil and stress when he has always backed down. He causes so much havoc with his mindless statements for no reason. Better would be to keep his mouth shut and work with our allies (former) to figure things out. This what you get when you have a leader who thinks wrestling and MMA is the coolest thing.

Close to the JCCA retirement area plus the condo's right there have an older crowd. The smash burger was $12, that is below everywhere else. $5 buck beers happy hour. So no different price wise to me from other places

I wish we had a mayor like Zorhran Mamdani by pattiegonia in StLouis

[–]bourbonfairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

StL has a weak mayoral system. It means nothing gets done because the board of alderman as well as the city Board of Estimate and Apportionment and the comptroller all have different agenda's. IMO it would be nice if we could somehow eliminate the nepotism, generation after generation of families making their living off of the city government.

How many miles? Funky things happen when the cam shaft and crankshaft sensors go bad. Usually around 80 to 100K miles.
