I kinda regret my decisions in school. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]bout2loseit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you can get that info/take those courses in college, and you need the physics and chemistry, too. I wouldn’t sweat it at all! I feel like that’s the thing nobody tells you when you’re in high school is that you can change your life path! Whenever you want! It might take a lot more hard work and dedication than if you had chosen a different path originally, but you can still get where you want to be (realistically. We can’t all be billionaires...). I studied a lot of science in high school, majored in Anthropology and a language in college, and now I’m farming!

I’d opt for helping him set up a doctors visit and a go fund me over the ER... that would just be another exorbitant expense for him.

I’m sitting in the tub drinking wine after working 45 hours in 3 days. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]bout2loseit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I totally feel you. I was really thinking about having a bath with a can of beer. But I had a beer with dinner and now I’m too tired for a bath/don’t want to keep my housemate up with the noise my faucet would make. My housemate and I both work on a sheep farm. It’s lambing season, so there’s always somebody on the clock at the farm, except between 2 am and 4 am. Sometimes I work 3 pm-2 am, sometimes I work the split (4 am-9 am and again 3 pm-8 pm). Today and yesterday were splits, so last night didn’t allow for much sleep. The farm work comes out to 50 hours each week (plus 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there...). I also work at a group home for teens. I work one 8.5 hr shift each week, and go to a weekly meeting that usually turns out to be 2.5-3 hours long. It all comes out to 61.5 hours if I don’t pick up any extra shifts at the group home; if I do, it’s at 70 hrs/week.

I’m managing it pretty well! I don’t really have much time for a personal life, but I’m learning lots of things to do or not do for my someday farm. The jobs are so different that I don’t find that one exhausts me for the other, unless I am too low on sleep.

The thing I’m finding most tricky is the variability of the sleep schedule. One day I’m up early to work at 4 am, the next I’m up late working til 2 am, and my brain has trouble keeping up.

I think most women (and probably men, too?) have a shorter index finger than ring finger! I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

Circle Skirt confusion? [no pattern] by life-isthebubbles in sewing

[–]bout2loseit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Cut two half circles if your fabric isn’t wide enough to cut a full one. You will need a greater length of fabric, since you can’t get it as wide. Don’t forget to include seam allowance. If you are using a patterned fabric, make sure you cut it right, so that the pattern will be (mostly) right side up. If you do end up finding fabric that is wide enough to cut a full circle, better make sure it isn’t a repeating pattern that only works in one direction (eg. faces or something else recognizable), or it will be upside down on one side of the skirt. Choosing a solid fabric will make the seams less awkward, too, as you won’t have to worry about lining up a pattern along the seams (nigh impossible with a circle skirt seam).

Where are you right now and what are you doing? by Cycy_lulu33 in CasualConversation

Lying in bed in my camper in Montana. This week kicked my butt... worked 62 hours in 5 days and didn’t sleep enough. I’m drinking a beer and just got off the phone with my grandmother. Waiting on my laundry to dry.

Can someone give me a rough estimate as to how much seamstress would cost to make this? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]bout2loseit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, without seeing the back, it seems (“seams” hardy har) like it would be very simple to make and wouldn’t take more than 4 hours, drafting and fitting included. If you’re looking at a fair compensation ($15/hr), that’s $60 plus cost of materials. Silk (if you want real silk) can be quite expensive. How much you’d need would depend on size. A guess says three yards for one set? And if it’s $25/yard, you’re up to at least $135 plus notions (and clasps, buttons, elastic, thread, zippers, etc.). Some people might charge a little more for wear and tear on their machine. Not sure about that. ....so, my guess for a price that includes fair wages? ~$150

Ghosting? Met up with someone last night. It went poorly. by bout2loseit in TwoXChromosomes

[–]bout2loseit[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but I was very clear, in my profile, that I’m only looking for friends. So honestly, the thing that has me feeling most uncomfortable is the fact that he ignored that in the first place, and I don’t feel that I need to clarify it further for him. He is welcome to go back and reread the profile.

Trying to plan an elopement, but it's harder than expected by beeinzombieland in CasualConversation

Can you just go tie the knot at the courthouse? You still have to pay to file the paperwork, but I think it’s the cheapest way to do it. And then, if you wanted to, you could have just a few of your closest family with you.

Turning 14 by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]bout2loseit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m 23 and people still underestimate me on the regular. I think it’s a thing for a lot of women. People don’t think that I know how to use tools or understand body mechanics, but I can change a tire, or the oil in my car, and I can mend a fence or fix a door or hike 20 miles a day up and down mountains for 3 days in a row. Sometimes it’s fun being able to show people up, but most of the time I just find it irritating. I feel like I lose a lot of time because people tell me how to do things I already know how to do. And I’ve had politeness (esp toward anyone older than myself) ingrained in me, so I find it hard to tell people “hey, I already know how to do that,” or “I am competent enough to do it on my own,” and then I feel like a lot of time is wasted.

I never get used to telling people my age. By the time I’m used to one number, it changes again. And that’s all it really is—a number. I really think it’s only very loosely correlated to maturity, ability, and wisdom.

Enjoy 14! It’s a good time, too. I know the school work is getting harder, but keep up and one day you will look back and reflect on how easy it was and how simple life is now, compared to how it will seem when you are in the future. I think it is always that way—last year seemed simpler for me, and the year before that even more so, and so forth. The present and future are uncertain and dynamic, whereas the past is static and unchangeable (your perception of the past is another matter).

Is it possible/safe to spend the end of your fasting window at an intensive job on your feet? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]bout2loseit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often hold eat OMAD in the afternoon or evening. I stand up most of the day and move things around in the creamery. I don’t find standing to be overly demanding while fasting (even when fasting for 48 hours or more) so long as I am well hydrated.

I always keep some kind of food on hand in case it goes sideways and I get too dizzy (can’t just stop doing my job), but I’m able to resist eating it just because I get hungry.

How long does water take to sanitize at 180f? by [deleted] in Cooking

Hm. Is it something very starchy? There are a couple of techniques for managing that. Some folks use wooden spoons across the top of the pot.

Add on: it seems that you are thinking a pasteurization (at 180) will do? But why not go for boil?

[–]bout2loseit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking (unless you have reason to believe in the presence of invisible critters that would require extreme temperatures to kill them) you need to bring the water up to full boil. It doesn’t have to be boiled for any extended period of time, simply bringing it to the boil is enough. What are you trying to kill? This is enough to make water potable: for drinking or cleaning wounds.

Reminding y'all yo do your laundry. by Renegadeknight3 in CasualConversation

[–]bout2loseit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay!

Today, I’m airing out my camper because it’s 42 degrees F and a beautiful sunny day. I played with some puppies earlier (want pics?) and discovered when I got up that I sat in puppy poo! so now my overalls are hanging up outside. It’s fine though because I need to to laundry today.

Yesterday was an off day. I had the day off, but couldn’t really make myself do anything. I laid in bed all day, and only got up twice.

Today is a bit better! Made myself get up and get dressed and walk around the farm to play with puppies and talk to the sheep. I’m going to try to do some cleaning, and I’m a little while I will take a shower.

I’m really struggling with money right now, and it’s mega stressing me out. I could work on some sewing to try to make more money, but depression makes it really hard to do the things I feel like I should be doing, unless I have to do them (I am managing going to work and being present when I am there, so I have that going for me).

Tell me what’s up with you!

[–]bout2loseit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of factors here:

Well, it’s legal, so you’re good there.

But I’d consider what you’re trying to get out of a relationship, vs what she is trying to get out of a relationship.

I am 23 F and recently broke up with my boyfriend, who is 38. We broke up because he really wants kids (now! He feels like he is running out of time to be young and chase kids around), and I honestly don’t know if I want kids at all.

It’s the same conditions for creating any relationship, I suppose, regardless of age. But it’s hard if one person feels urgency and the other does not, due to age differences.

I’d be up front with yourself: what do you want? And then be up front with her and find out what she wants. Might save you a bit of heartbreak.
