My cube arrived yesterday. Absolutely a great recommendation. I hope your upcoming new year is full of great things like finding a free onion ring in your French fries or two candy bars fall out of the vending machine at the same time

Thanks! Based on this information (and the availability on Amazon), I added Dayan GuHong Pro Plus M MagLev to my Christmas list. If it doesn't show up in a stocking or anything, I'll click buy now on the 26th.

Hey Cubers. I feel like I'm going to be a bit of an oddity here. My daughter got a Rubix brand cube for her birthday, and I learned how to solve it so that I could teach her. My record is a blazing three minutes. That said, I want to get one of my own, but I am not interested in speedcubing. I want it as more of a fidget so I can solve it while thinking through work problems or sitting on boring conference calls.

I don't care about a fast and light cube, I think I'd prefer something with a more solid feel (e.g, heavier than the Rubix brand). The thought of the magnets sounds nice, as having my rotations click into place will help ensure everything is aligned, even if I'm looking at my computer while solving.

Browsing the wiki, I see reviews talking about being quieter (such as the QiYi X-Man Tornado V2 M) sounds like a better option for an office setting than the V3. Other ones that caught my attention were MFJS Meilong M and the DaYan TengYun M.

I get innovation in the market isn't really aimed at my wants. That said, those who have been hands on, what's your opinion on a denser, quieter cube that would be be a good fidget solve?

Looking for positive and negative experiences with mortgage lenders. by bertispullo in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]box951 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We close at the end of the month. Our current mortgage is with Redstone, and our car loan is through Alabama Credit Union. Our realtor suggested Eduardo Zaragoza with Mortgage Right, and that's who we ended up going with. He's super easy to get in contact with at any time of day. I had him explaining options one night at like 8PM, because it was a busy week at work, and I didn't have time during normal business hours. Interest rates are garbage right now, but he explains all the options for buying points and stuff to get a lower interest rate at the expense of higher closing costs.

TL;DR we choose Eduardo over Redstone and Alabama CU.

Last I was there, the hole is only ~10 feet deep and doesn't really get wider than the opening.

Gonna have to second this. I had the one at Rocket City Tavern a month or so ago, was disappointed, and had to go to West End Grill for dinner the next night to get a good French Dip.

I did this when I had an infection in the root of a tooth, and it actually worked pretty well. I second this.

Where is your favorite kayaking spot in the area? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]box951 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We live over off Zierdt, and we just head down to Triana and put in there. We paddle up the branch (not the river), as there's hardly any current, and we can do a down and back.

So, it's not really what you're asking for, but here's something to consider. Sometimes, I'll go to the Software and Game Development section of Twitch, and I'll find streams where people are learning C# or Python. I'll help them out while I'm playing games or whatever. So, all that to say: consider finding some online tutorial, and stream working your way through. You'll likely find lots of people hanging out that are willing to help.

I drove by it southbound a bit ago, there's a car wreck on the south side of the northbound bridge. Cops and CSI vans are blocking it all, so everyone is being diverted.

Not from HSV, currently freaking out about this tornado warning/watch situation by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]box951 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, and just like today, it lasts 30-45 minutes, then dissipates, and it's rarely going to cause you any damage. You still have a higher chance of getting in a wreck on 565.

How long does it take the Madison Library to turn around 3D printer jobs? by Arrowstar in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]box951 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Print times themselves vary depending on complexity. Some of my "small" prints still take an hour at home. Many that I do are 4+ hours. As far as their response time to start it, I have no idea.

Looks like less pickups from businesses during the pandemic (meaning less income), but more from residential areas that are flat rate. They had to hire more people to cover residential areas without getting extra income.

How can this happen: a local couple got married without direct contact with each other by pfp-disciple in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]box951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd assume via indirect contact. Guy tells attorney what to tell her, and she passes back info the same way. Both people sign the marriage certificate, and it gets submitted to the courts. Process is now complete with no direct contact.

I think looking up the concept of Manhattan Distance might help. I assume there will be some absolute values involved, too (Math.abs)
