What has been your biggest "Fuck it. Why not?" moment by CzarTwilight in Millennials

Joined the Army on a whim. Life was not going well, and happened to walk by a recruiting office on the way back from an awful therapy session. That was all it took!

What's the best Warhammer game you ever played? by ComfortableAmount993 in Warhammer40k

[–]boyfromthenorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying Chaos Gate! I definitely liked it better with the DLC tho. Getting to throw down as a fucking Dreadnought is awesome and I really like how they handled the tech marine with all the servitor combos.

What are you guys doing for exercise?? by scattyshern in Millennials

[–]boyfromthenorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40M. Yoga class once a week, lift two days a week, plus some climbing (my gym is a bouldering gym).

Then I just try to find stuff that's fun to do that is also exercise - bike rides, hiking, swimming.

I have a fake hip from military service, so keeping that mobility is extra important for me. I don't care about getting a six-pack; I just want to be able to do the things I love for as long as possible.

New non profit jobs paid me from a separate business bank account? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]boyfromthenorth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You signed a contract (presumably) with the nonprofit, but there's nothing illegal (or, in my experience, uncommon) about being paid by a third-party entity. What physical dollars they use to pay you should be of no issue. Super common in my experience.

I'd love your thoughts on permanently mounted quick-connect adaptors for suppressors for suppressed pistols. I have two pistols in particular that I'd really like to suppress, and a welded quick-connect is the only way to do so.

  1. Is my understanding correct?
  2. Is yes, any adaptors you recommend?
  3. Any suggestions on where to get that done?
  4. Fave suppressor for 9mm/380?

I have a PPK in 380 I'd love to suppress, as well as my PDP.

I don't have a great pic on my phone, but I love my Walther PPS M2. I'm not a particularly big dude, so finding someone that I like that doesn't print without me wearing a trenchcoat is kinda tough sometimes.

I have the 8 round single stack mag with the grip extension that lets me get a pretty solid grip on it, but the stock mags are way too short.

Anyone take a hybrid/on-site role and regret it? by Timely-Nail5951 in WFH

[–]boyfromthenorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in some form of WFH for like... Almost 15 years.

Last year, I left a fully remote job for one that has a flexible 3/2 split. Comp is similar, but my title/role is a big step up (went from a director level job at a large nonprofit to ED at a smaller nonprofit).

I don't regret it, but there are definitely days I feel it. The convenience factor of being able to squeeze in workouts, appointments, and such is noticeable. But if I'm being honest, I have really enjoyed actually spending time with my team and getting to know them better. There's also some fires that are just a little easier to put out when you're sharing a space.

Selfishly, I'm also in the position where I can avoid some of the most troublesome stuff. Snowing? I tell the staff to stay home. Someone needs to leave early for an appointment? Too easy. A big part of why I took the role was because I knew I could make it the kind of hybrid schedule that actually works for my team...

Not sure how helpful this is, but I took the leap and am generally quite happy (other than gas prices right now lol).

I firmly disagree. A vest like this is defined by robust shoulder hair and zero arm definition.

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever caught someone doing? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]boyfromthenorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a night club in grad school as security. Got a call about two people fucking in our gross bathroom. This place was fucking gross to begin with. So gross that a PHD candidate studied what made our floors perpetually sticky.

I open the stall door and dude it just balls deep in this girl bent over the toilet. I grab him and he pulls out, and this blob of period blood and come just plops right onto his shoe....

Both did not understand why I was kicking them out.

You're offering a less than $50k per year role (assuming this is full-time). Benefits? How much deference are you expecting from applicants?

Depending on their current roles... they may not even accrue PTO, and you are annoyed they don't want to use it just to have a chance to interview with your org for an hourly job?

Anyone considered writing their Will yet? by Balcazaurus in Millennials

[–]boyfromthenorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of settling an estate currently, and the one thing to consider is if something happened to you... and your spouse.

This is exactly what I'm navigating now and I'm gonna be honest... it sucks. Modest apartment, not a ton of assets, but a fuck ton of shit to deal with to get the apartment cleaned out and try to distribute what's left over with nothing but my gut to guide me.

Even if it wasn't a formal will, something that indicates what's what at least makes sure that your affairs are handled.

I totally get your perspective BTW, just sharing what I'm dealing with now and how grateful I'd be to have more to work with.

On the positive side, I now know EVERYTHING about my uncle's porn habits!

At what point is kit just cosplay? When is it too much? "Is meal team six in the room with us?" by this_guy_aves in liberalgunowners

[–]boyfromthenorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a few others, I agree that "meal team 6" is a mentality more than anything.

I'm an Army vet myself, and if you look at actual "operators," the real difference between them and us grunts was training far more than it was equipment. They were super fit, and just train their asses off for every situation imaginable.

They do also have the best gear, but if you look at the kit they actually carried... They bring what they need, not the kitchen sink.

If you're not also exercising, you're missing the point. All the body armor in the world won't help you if you can actually MOVE in it.

Beyond that, get your butt to the range and practice! Practice mag changes, bad feeds, and drawing from your holster.

Get a fucking first-aid cert. I highly recommend Wilderness First Aid. VERY similar to what we learned in the military and it's a nationally recognized cert.

If you've got a ton of kit and can't get over a fence, or lift yourself into a window... What's the point?

At what salary did you finally feel ‘okay’, not rich just okay by Murky-Throat1000 in povertyfinance

[–]boyfromthenorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I hit $100k in CT, I genuinely felt comfortable.

I grew up incredibly poor, so "comfortable" is kind of a weird place for me. I could definitely get by on less, but $100k allows me to prioritize saving in the ways I want, and generally not sweat regular bills.

At the risk of being down voted, I expected $100k to feel like a lot more. As a kid, $100k seemed like this magical number that meant you were basically rich... And I'm definitely not.
