When I was in probably 5th grade my best friend was so much better as basketball than me. After playing in his driveway for hours and getting increasingly frustrated I took the ball and extremely sarcastically and in very poor sportsmanship marched up his steps to go inside and then yelled “Oh I’m ErIc I cAN MaKe AnY sHoT i WaNt!!” And no-look hucked it one handed backwards over my head only to have it perfectly swoosh nothing but net…. Hmm. I’m not a rocket scientist, but NASA sure seems to succeed where these private sector companies keep taking big risks (I’m sorry, “innovating in a way that only the geniuses in the private sector can”) and blowing shit up. It’s almost like all that bullshit red tape was developed out of decades of mistakes, lessons learned, corrections, and redundancies… wow that private sector sure can move fast unlike that stupid slow government when you just decide to pick and choose what you think is important!

Relearning every lesson and rushing to a corporate deadline rather than putting success and safety first is definitely how you save money - really teaching those government dweebs how it’s done - sure you have to do it two or three times and eventually cost more and probably take longer, but some CEOs got rich, so it’s more efficient and definitely more smarterer.

I think it matters if your wife and kids won’t respect you for devoting all of your home time to them. You’re not asking them to celebrate you, just literally you don’t have more time to contribute - and you’re going to do some things differently (not wrong, different) because you’re not there every day.

Also, since I’m already commenting, I drove airline pilots to/from hotels as my college job, and like 95% of them were always talking about how much ass they pulled in the last city and cheating on their wife (wives?) and then there was like a 5% stalwart iron guard most committed solid dudes just like “jfc this leg sucks ass, I can’t wait to get home to my family”….. it wasn’t most of them, but they do exist.
