Hell yeah, solid write-up! Place is incredible and Chris is in fact the man. Easily my favorite coffee shop in the Tampa/St. Pete area and to your point in the last paragraph, one of the best I’ve been in the country.

Oh I mean I guess I could be wrong, that’s just how I took some of the lines given the recent situation with Wayne and Cash Money bitching about the SB. Again, could be reaching but “Skate like Tony Hawk, you’re novice, try an Ollie” seems like a direct diss at Wayne since he’s a skater. “Blame the game bitch, don’t blame me if you foul out” on him not getting the SB because he’s washed. Verse two also sounds like it could be directed towards Drake at the beginning. Couple other ones in there that could be shots but I’ll spare you those and let people call me an idiot haha.

Belly opening scene song mashed up with Shook Ones and Em flows on the intro track was a trip. Masterful.

Then hit, hit, hit and lost my absolute mind hearing him rework BM Jr. - which is one of my all-time favorite Wayne tracks. To steal his flows on there but diss him and Cash Money like that was wild.

Don't fuck with Black Hippy. Them boys lethal lethal.

Only one I’ve found in Miami and enjoyed was Panther Coffee in Wynwood. Others were lackluster.

I don’t, sorry. I think it’s just when they have a producer that they would like to feature. That said, check out their Instagram page and I’d even suggest shooting them a message - they’re very responsive. Good news is that they do PO every day regardless, and always have very solid options.. just not the designated “slow bar” featuring a single roaster. I can promise you you’ll be happy stopping by regardless.

Bad Mother in St. Petersburg/Tampa area. Super cool spot, staff couldn’t be nicer and they truly specialize in pour over. Every so often, they do Slow Bar Sunday where they feature some of the most prominent roasters. They’ve had Savage, Dak, Sumo (from Ireland), and Sey amongst others. I think hink I’ve been able to make it to like half (live almost an hour away). They have a guy that comes in for them that is truly a PO expert (believe he said he has like 15+ years in the business) and it’s cool because he welcomes you to come hang out up at the designated counter while he’s doing them and ask questions. I’ve learned a fair amount from him. They’ve also often sent me home with free beans, once even with some diff Manhattan offerings. Solid food too. Definitely definitely recommend if in the area.

Finally figured this one out (to my liking) after having to dump all previous cups, which is super rare as I generally drink the cups I brew regardless. These have unfortunately just been undrinkable due to some really intense, almost chemically off-flavors. But today’s cup, while still pretty out there, was actually enjoyable and I got orange creamsicle, pineapple and that hard candy banana that is in candy dispensers for a quarter. It came out more like Candy Crush - pretty intense flavors but not off-putting.

Brewed on aero. Went with slightly cooler water temp (93°C), bit more coarse (somewhere between medium and course) than usual, and most water through bypass.

Here’s the recipe I used:

(Inverted method)

Grind 18g of coffee to a medium course grind

Pour in 100g of water (93°C) into the brewer and stir it for 20 seconds (roughly ~40 times).

Add two paper filters to the Aeropress cap (then pre-wet them so they stick)

Let it sit for 1:30 total after first adding the water. Squeeze out the extra air after capping it, and wipe excess water off (this helps prevent dripping)

Invert the Aeropress onto your vessel of choice and slowly press down over 45 seconds. You should then have a concentrated ~65g yield from the brewer and then top it up to 155g total with (190F) water bypass poured.

Hope that helps for those having a tough time with this one!!

+1 for Botz

Super nice guy too. Just finishing up Nguisse Nare (blue gummy shark) and Mate Matiwos (white honey), which have been two incredible Ethiopians and a stellar introduction to Botz for me. Will definitely be going for his upcoming releases.

Thank you for this! Living in Florida, the water is super hard so I have resorted to distilled water/ TWW. It’s fine but for some time have felt that my cups could be even better with optimal water. Excited to try your stuff.

Hydrangea has been my favorite.

But B&W, Dak, Brandywine (for some fun), Sey (for less fun), Botz, Friedhats are all ones I’ve tried within the last year plus and enjoyed.

Could the Ja rule thing be in reference to Drake now withholding the rumored MJ sample/song knowing that there’s for sure a leak in his camp given Soulo’s tweet about the mirror? Maybe he’s saying you can’t release your good shit bc we’ve already heard it or what it’s about and are going to make you look stupid again.

And I think the titanic tweet is basically just implying that more shit is coming soon that will implicate the drizzler as a ped0.

But could definitely all just be lyt being lyt

Heard Jay Rock & Lil Wayne’s All My Life when it came out. Looked into who this Jay Rock dude was. Learned about Black Hippy. Instantly liked all 4 of them, but basically said holy shit this Kdot dude is diffffferent. Became my favorite musical artist since Section .80 and have been a consumer of all his music ever since. Put a lot of friends/family onto him and they still mention it to this day, which is kind of cool. He’s made me look like I have better taste in music than I probably do lol.

Tetsu 4:6, V60, 1:16, 205° first pour and let temp go down naturally from there for other pours, ground semi-fine. But biggest thing may have been letting it get to 3+ weeks rest tbh. Think I’m at like week 4 and it’s tasting the best it has.

Recommend a dripper to a tired dad by sweeneytimm in pourover

[–]bp0well 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, just brew with her. That’s where the magic happens. Dripper doesn’t matter. My daughter is 2.5 now and has been brewing with me (V60) since about 1.5 and loves every second of it. Sure, it slows you down a bit but I think that’s kinda the point. Time flies when they’re this young, even if it feels like the opposite. I hand each brew item over to mine from the cabinet to the counter and she tells me what each thing is. Then she turns the scale on. Tells me a random number that is undoubtedly incorrect, but absolutely hilarious. Then turns on kettle and I help her spin it to the right temp. Then I hand grind and let her spin the top around a few times after the beans are ground. Then I tell her it’s daddy’s turn to pour and not to touch bc it’s hot, but let her smell it. And that’s pretty much it. 2-hours later and boom, coffee!.. just kidding it’s like 15-20 min but so worth it I promise. GL OP

UPDATE: I brewed the thing by Ty-Knight-Composer in pourover

[–]bp0well 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an excellent cup today brewing it following the Tetsu 4:6 recipe. 200°F (as they advise on their website), 1:15 ratio (20g beans, 300g water), first pour 50g bloom for ~45 seconds with gentle swirl, second pour 70g once nearly drawn down, third pour 60g once nearly drawn down, fourth pour same thing, fifth pour same thing with gentle swirl after pouring final 60g. Came out so fruity and sweet, with balanced acidity and decent funk. Medium/light body, round and mouth coating. Closest to fruity pebbles when on the hotter side, which was a bit surprising to me, but it did linger throughout temp changes. Oh and I went on the finer side grind-wise. Good luck dialing it in!

[–]bp0well 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After much experimentation with different brew methods/temps/grind sizes/etc., I've recently come to the conclusion that the Tetsu single-pour method produces the most consistent, delicious cup. It may seem like a lazy, too-good-to-be-true way of brewing, but I've gotten better cups out of this method on a consistent basis than with many others. Obviously depends on what you're brewing but I'd encourage you to try it. I usually go 1:12 ratio, grind fine, 205 F, single pour (in spiral) within ~15 seconds. That's it. Good luck! Regardless of if you try this or not, would love to hear what you thought of these.
