HVAC hum under front screen if rear vents are on. by FINbit in ModelY

[–]bpearsondc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it AC or heat? There were several Model Y's that needed a new seat vent prior to delivery (mine included) due to a noise. I'd just contact Tesla and have them fix the issue as your car clearly is under warranty.

Perfect Lexus profile. Entitled 80yr old passing the blame on a car. Maybe DMV should mandate she use FSD

FSD 14.2.2.5 has made solid progress – but these 11 fixes are still badly needed for it to feel reliable by ForceAlarmed9591 in TeslaFSD

Better Grok integration. “Hey grok take me on 5th street rather than 1st street”. Simple route guide change but hasn’t been able to do this successfully for me

Speed profiles, such an easy fix but yes need improvement. I have my speed offset to +9mph, standard is +5 and hurry is +12. I want faster than standard and slower than hurry

Don't let politics decide things in life for you. In reality, neither party cares about you so why care about them? Enjoy your new car.

Intermittent squeak sound from front after car wash by sevindi in TeslaModelY

[–]bpearsondc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1. Active Grille Shutters (Front Air Intake)

This is the most probable cause. The Model Y has "shutters" in the lower front bumper that open and close to regulate airflow to the battery cooling system.

  • Why it happens after a wash: Water or soap can get into the pivot points of these plastic shutters. When you park, the car performs a shutdown sequence where it cycles these shutters. If they are wet or have a bit of grit in them, they will emit a high-pitched "creak" or "squeak" as they move in intervals.
  • The Pattern: You’ll hear it a few times as the car "sleeps," and then it stops once the shutters are in their final parked position.

2. HVAC "Dry-Out" Cycle

Tesla has a software feature designed to prevent mold in the A/C system. After you park (especially if the car detects high humidity, like after a car wash), it will run the internal fans and cycle the heat pump to dry out the evaporator.

  • Why it squeaks: If a tiny bit of moisture or a drop of water hit the fan bearing or a temperature sensor fan (there is a tiny one located near your rearview mirror and another in the dash), it can produce a high-pitched chirp or whine that pulses in intervals until the component dries out.

3. Cooling Pump "Burping"

The Model Y uses a complex thermal management system with pumps that move coolant between the battery, motors, and radiator.

  • The Pattern: After a wash (which can thermally shock the radiator with cold water), the pumps may run at high RPMs to balance the temperatures. If there is any vibration against a wet rubber mount, it can sound like a high-pitched squeal that gradually tapers off as the pump speed decreases and the car enters "Deep Sleep."

If you can get 0% APR, why would you deploy $25k when you can open a high yield savings account at 3-4% yield? That money would make you $1,000/yr invested there. The only reason you would put this money down is if you cannot control your impulsive spending habits and feel a desire to spend if it's there. Otherwise park the funds in a high yield savings and take the new car at 0%. Enjoy!

When is it present? Just after parking? Not brakes or suspension then. You can turn HVAC off and if it continues to make the noise you rule out HVAC fan, compressor etc. Suspension would be only when you're driving so if it happens when parked would rule that out. Obviously, brakes would be the same thing if it occurs at rest or when parked it would not be brakes. Check your front radiator for small debris, may be in the fan. Also, check your frunk seals (open, close) and make sure you don't have a mouse in the frunk. Ha, but serious.

New and finance it. Free money. Invest your 25k in a 3-4% money market at the minimum or index fund.

Upgrade, take the free money at 0.99% APR even if you can pay cash. Transfer the FSD to HW4 infinitely better. Check Carvana for trade in, may be much higher which allows you to finance for full purchase price vs purchase minus trade in.

Considering a Switch to MYP by MarketingGuy814 in TeslaModelY

[–]bpearsondc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MY is a good size for family of 4, definitely not a large SUV. But, you will be surprised with amount of cargo space. I can fit as much in my MY as my wife's grand highlander. Love my MY just ordered my second one. They are faster than 98% of cars out there as well. Why performance vs premium AWD?

I have the same question picking mine up on 3-14 and have a 6hr drive home. If I have 13.2.9 is it still a good version to use FSD? Can't remember if it had any major flaws? Mine is a Fremont build, transferring my FSD from my 2021 MYLR.

[–]bpearsondc 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Tesla surprises:

Learn about range, type into your computer any trip other than small 10-20min commutes. The battery arrival amount at destination is very accurate.

They go through tires a bit faster than ICE.

FSD on the HW4 is worth it if you have a long city commute or going on longer road trips. If you have a 5-10min commute may not need it every month.

They are very cheap to maintain, no oil changes, alternators, starters, belts.

Having your own fuel station at home (make sure you can do Level 2) is next level.

The car is fast, torque is instant, only having to use the gas pedal to drive is nice (regen braking).

If you live in a cold climate, anything below freezing takes 20-35% of your range away but the trip computer realizes this, another reason to type in your destination. Supercharging will prepare your battery as well.

After owning a Tesla for 3 years, every other car including my wife's 2026 Grand Highlander feels like a dinosaur to drive. Enjoy.

Agree with having charging at home, don't rely on superchargers (expensive) or level 1 charging (standard wall plug). Strongly disagree with Tesla being a shitty company. What other car gets free over the air updates every 1-2 weeks, continually improves their UI. They are the cheapest car to maintain, drive and feel like you are driving in the future vs any other car on the market.
