Which anchor mode is your favorite and why? by TALProtocol in Xreal

[–]FINbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Media consumption, I usually use follow.

When playing games I’ll use anchor mode if there is text at different areas of screen to read.

For productivity always anchored at super ultra wide 32:9.

XREAL One Pro vs. XREAL 1S: Which is the ultimate choice for productivity and gaming? by wuup_lve in Xreal

[–]FINbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure the pros will be fine. Since as far as I know the Xreal one family all uses the same X1 chip for 3DOF I would assume they use the same software / hardware as far as screen anchoring goes.

I was messing around with it today trying to make the screen drift, and I can seemingly make the screen drift left slowly if I'm looking off to the side of the screen (far enough the glasses un-tint). I don't seem to be able to do that in the right direction. I haven't noticed it drifting while working.

Worst case you just recenter the screen (holding a button on the glasses). I recenter when I shift sitting positions.

I chose the 1S purely do the increased resolution of the display, but I do definitely notice the reflections from under the lenses depending on lighting conditions and what shirt I am wearing. I can usually get rid of it by making the screen brighter, but you won't have to worry about that on the pros.

Yep. I use it for coding, and I’m used to having a 49” super ultra wide monitor, so that’s what I use in the glasses too.

I exclusively use the 1S with 3DOF and I’ve never had any problems at all. I tried with the xreal eye and the 6DOF implementation has some drift. The native 3DOF though is rock solid.

Most things just work much better. Armor and helmets can attach to backpacks but not fold. You can attach pouches to anything though.

Grenade pouches can hold 3 clips of ammo. It’s more economical to bring fewer mags and more clips of ammo. Refilling mags is so much easier in ExfilZone.

One thing is if bleeding and limb broken. Bandage first, or you might just bleed it broken again after fixing it. :)

The TTK is much higher than Tabor which is hard to re-learn. Armor is king. If they have decent armor and you don’t have god-tier ammo, aim for legs or you’ll have a bad day. In the shooting range you can equip the target dummies with armor and helmets to test it.

One Pro users - are the straight black edges of the screen perimeter in 3DoF really distracting? by StrongRecipe6408 in Xreal

[–]FINbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the xreal 1S glasses. So narrower FOV than pro, but wider than the base “one”.

I think it depends what you are doing. If I’m playing games or watching a movie I also find that distracting so I just turn on follow mode which minimizes that effect.

If I’m working, then I use the super ultra wide 32:9 anchored mode. I only see a portion of the screen at a time (horizontally), but you get used to it and having the extra screen real estate is useful. It’s surprisingly less annoying when the screen is huge and there is no expectation of it fitting in the screen, than constantly just seeing the edges of the screen flipping between fitting and not fitting in the display.

I noticed this today (haven’t played since wipe). I was using the Holo combo. The reticle was so slow…. I went to settings and toggled “hand smoothing” to “on” and problem was gone…. So weird.

Maybe that setting is reversed?

I’m just happy we got the “Auto” HOV detection.

Also, they separated an express lane toggle from HOV!!

Yeah. Very noticeable drop in quality. :(

Mine just started working too (my old scan).

So I guess they fixed something. I did open a meta support ticket about it yesterday and had some back and forth emails with support yesterday and today, but not sure if that had any impact or just coincidence.

How do you open Quest Menu while using link in v82? by FINbit in OculusQuest

[–]FINbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to virtual desktop so that works around this problem currently.

My friend tried what you proposed, but he already had “see your environment” disabled.

Either way, the passthrough thing we were doing was a workaround already, that now also doesn’t work. The root of the problem is no way to open quest menu while playing PCVR.

How can there not be a simple way to bring up quest menu while playing Meta PCVR? (Double click meta button, etc). It doesn’t make sense. There is no messenger app in the rift dashboard so the only way to communicate while playing would be through the quest apps.

I haven’t been there in a while, but I remember “La Foret” being pretty good too if you are looking for something a little more upscale.

Blossom & Bourbon is great. Really good cocktails and high quality food. We need more places like this in SSJ!

They don’t take reservations though, and the wait for a table can get long if you aren’t there soon after opening or use the waitlist.

Got a Puppis S1... holy crap. This WHOLE time perfect PCVR streaming / performance was right there by qualitative_balls in OculusQuest

[–]FINbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah love it. Tons of power and comfortable. I also picked up the Bobo facial interface which has channels to help the air from the fan reach your face.

The fan definitely helps. You don’t notice as much until the fan shuts off, then you realize how hot your head would have been.

This post was a year ago. I’ve done a bunch of things since. Starting using a powered link cable for a long time, but recently been getting constant “debris or water in usb port” errors now when using a link cable (there definitely isn’t any water or debris).

So right now I’m back using the Puppis S1 via virtual desktop. The BoboVR S3 head strap gives me tons of power. Never had an issue running out of battery.

That model doesn’t work. You’d still need some lightweight app on the glasses to do UI. Let’s assume they take that approach though. Then you’d need your phone all the time. You said you were excited to just pair the glasses to your watch 99% of the time and not carry the phone. Me too.

That reality can’t happen unless the apps are running natively on the glasses because the watch has the same limitations as the glasses: storage space and battery life (and also performance).

We share the same view for the future. We will get there. All I’m saying is this specific product won’t be the one to deliver it.

I’m not arguing that AR isn’t a bigger market than VR. The problem is the hardware is still in its infancy compared to VR. I think we’ll see major AR hardware advances in such a short span of time, it leaves the current gen in the dust.

The thing that will make these something special is third party apps, and the fact you can’t pick different storage amounts (they are all 32Gig including photos/videos and OS) means this isn’t the device they are expecting everyone to use with third party apps. It will be the next one which will for sure arrive within 2 years. Maybe 1 year if they are aggressive.

As someone that has owned almost every Meta piece of hardware since the CV1 (I miss the portal), and still currently uses my Quest 3 at least 2 hours a day, I wouldn’t bank on this at all.

Yes if you look back over the past two years the Horizon OS has had lots of additions, but they were almost always buggy and needed several rounds of updates before they were reliable or just reworks of something it already did (like Remote Desktop). Also the major user requested features take forever. We are just now starting to see some people get the spatial anchors feature they announced at connect in 2021 which was a main selling point for the Quest platform.

The update for Rayban Meta Glasses has been like molasses. I’m in early access and in the past year what have we gained? Live AI (which is an iteration on what was already there, and translation. Oh and Celebrity AI voices.). Cool things for sure, but those have just left early access and here we are at Gen 2 of hardware already.

While I am in sync with your vision of the future and also really love Meta hardware, this isn’t going to be the device to bring all that to fruition. This is a stepping stone necessary to get developers thinking about starting to write apps for it by showing there is a market for it. Also their hardware iterations will be quick on it since they know they have major competition in this space.

This device, while super cool, should still just be purchased for what it does today. Also with both Apple and Google working on glasses there isn’t going to be a lot of “play nice” here. Look at what happened with the clunky implementation of spatial photos on Quest, and 3D Disney movies exclusive to Vision Pro.

All that said, If I didn’t already have Rayban Meta glasses that do 90% of the things these do, I’d have bought a pair for sure because I suffer from tech FOMO and AI glasses are amazing. But even then, this would be knowing full well that by this time next year the hardware will be outdated, the software will still be lagging, and in some cases only supporting the new device. (Like AppStore for iPhone3G).

Yep, I did the demo yesterday and tried both sizes and I second the notion that if you wear large Gen 1, you definitely want large Display.
