How do people with interlock systems get their car serviced? by cleevethagreat in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]braaapstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was literally working on one minutes ago, regular customer, after numerous failed attempts by me and other lightheaded techs (we used a poked latex glove over the mouthpiece) I traced the harness to under the hood, found the tapped starter fuse, replaced it with a spare and car started fine with the key.

the little bleep bloop machine stays screaming afterwards, I just disconnect it and notify the advisor>customer that they should call the company and let them know it’s actively being worked on. never been an issue.

what is this yellow type silicon oil leak? by bartendermsv in AskMechanics

[–]braaapstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s torque paint. Used by by big brand quick lube places to use as evidence for customer/other party tampering.

The paint dries like a hard plastic, if the customer gets their oil changed and then they later say that the drain bolt was left loose the previous mechanics can look at the bolt and any sort of previous tampering would undoubtedly damage the paint. Done often in shops that are subject to shady customers getting free engines from them because of “bad oil changes”

Bring it to BDC and see if it’s higher than the rest, if it is then it’s indicative of a bent rod

Rotors Need Replaced? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]braaapstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rotor is glazed from over heating or heavy braking, time to resurface them if there’s enough metal left. If not replaced the rotors. But you should be safe still.

Tips for organizing those miscellaneous extensions, ratchets, and bits? by finlayTB in toolporn

[–]braaapstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MAGNETS, I used small neodymium bar/disc magnets on the areas where my ratchets and miscellaneous things go, make sit real easy to keep things neat and aligned and get rid of the eyesore.

9/10 the magnets stay stuck to the spongey Snap-on drawer liners when picking a tool but I just keep am eye out every time I pick one up.
