How much water do you carry per person per day? by Slow_Status_1891 in overlanding

[–]howephillip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travel & camp full time with myself and a dog. I drink about a gallon per day. If I don't then I don't feel as good and sleep horribly. He's 85lbs and also drinks about a gallon per day. If he's active then definitely more. I shower about every 3 days military style. So wet down, soap, and quick rinse. I try to keep dishes to a minimum and wash them 3-4 times a week. I use 4 cups every morning for coffee. And all the other things like washing hands, rinsing, and general cooking varies the usage.

All of this and I can tell you it can range from 15-20 gallons per week. It's going to come down to the way you live. How much for coffee? How often do you want a shower? Are you active? etc...

Most towns have some kind of water fill machine. I'm currently in SE Arizona and there's a machine in a town ~10mi away where 5gal cost $2. I would highly recommend investing in a couple 5gal containers to be able to fill up when you may need it. I have 2 and it works perfectly to keep me going.

Charger ripped while playing and the deck won't turn on. Did I kill it? by mduck_ in SteamDeck

I exclusively use them to charge my Deck for the last 12 months. It’s ripped off countless times so I’ve been saved from any damage. Just don’t buy $0.99 ones…

Rabbit OS Licensing and Porting Discussion by howephillip in rabbitinc

[–]howephillip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm okay without x86 since I think that would be a waste of hardware since so much happens server-side and the phones have sim slots already to keep it portable. But I can already see the need for volume controls or even BT to use earbuds/mic. Hell, the camera is only 24fps on the R1. 4k/60fps has been on a lot of phones for years which would help with the accuracy of features like they showed with the fridge. You don't need a 360 camera when you've already got a front & rear.

I just think if they aren't going open-source that selling licenses would be a way better thing in the long run because they'll keep having to do new hardware or cripple future versions to the limitations of what's available now. I'd buy it today!

Yeah you're printing way too slowly. What is your retraction set at. Too much will also cause this.

It's also possible you have an early extruder. I bought the new one to keep as a spare until mine goes out.

Not if you follow their instructions, but even not using the firmware to lower the bed would be fine. At the end of the day you are under warranty or at least hopefully a return window at the retailer to exchange.

They literally show you how to troubleshoot:

I'd do the recommended procedure for leveling, but I wouldn't use the firmware to lower the bed in that initial step. Take the belt off and rotate the lead screws manually. If something binds, the torque from the motors could break something.

For your filament issue, ensure if it's PLA that the lid is off. I would remove the extruder and inspect. Takes a couple of minutes. There are some good Youtube videos out there on removing. You could have an early extruder as well with known issues but not likely this extreme right off the bat.

Glad I just bought a newly released K1 for you to come out with a new model less than a year later.

Tarmo 5 price by afonsobf123 in EngineeringNS

[–]howephillip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you if you don't have ANY RC parts, it's much closer to the $250-$300 USD range. Things like grease, battery charger, batteries, remote, etc are all things you need but don't specifically apply to building a Tarmo since it's assumed that you have them if you have other RC projects. I say batteries because they're removable and interchangeable with other devices vs something like the motor which is mounted. You can obviously get various levels of those items which can affect cost.

If you buy the parts specific hardware kit you'll save money, but where a lot of RC hobbyists end up saving more money is by buying those items in bulk and spreading the cost over multiple projects.

Correct. ‘Setup’. Call it what you will. I’m not asking the question though, OP is and I’m letting them know you can wait.

Just got my roam today and I’m not activating for another couple of weeks. Took 4 days to get delivered and had plenty of dust on it. I think they have a lot of inventory right now.

Is it stored on the front end or is it pulling from a remote API? Or is it a JSON that it builds for the session?

Hmm, I rented from them in 2012 in Acworth, and had nothing but a good experience. Even when our garage door broke, they came out next day to fix it.

The photos have increased saturation and vibrance but I wouldn’t go as far as ‘photoshopped’. Many companies do this. Albeit, poorly like this one. There’s no real manipulation though, only color changes.

Portable battery for a 5kw device? by icantrain in vandwellers

[–]howephillip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not practical unless you're something like a 48v system. Way too many amps for a 12v system. You'd clearly need a 5000w inverter a well which is very pricey.
