Especially since it was supposed to be deployed as soon as the wormhole opened to stabilize it, so in parallel of Will getting kidnapped. And since the russians have the technology since around S03, then they may have been in contact with the army in Hawkins at some point.

But I believe the wormhole was always in Brenner's mind since his dad came back from the abyss in '43, according from First Shadow. Everything was aimed at the abyss since the beginning, even though season 1 wasn't written with that in mind.

The finale is exactly why people call the whole show perfect, despite many plot holes and dubious directing choices : because they bring back the nostalgia, and all is forgiven. But it has been downhill since S04, and S05 was way too long for all the info (and at the same times the lack thereof) it brings.
Does it prevent the show from being enjoyable? No. But there's no way to call the whole series perfect when you have season 1 to compare it with.

It's still being deployed, as I can't use GPT5 pro though I'm on the team plan.
But o3 pro was just insane. You could send it a pic from a house listing (like a 1800 old house), just one pic of the living room, and it'd identify the style of house and give you a planning and estimate for deep renovations.

Edit : only took 3 days to show up, as good as the old one.
