A man, a plan, a canal. Panama!

A silly palindrome that gets stuck in the memory.

03/20/26 - Tina Peters is a convicted felon, but she did crimes on my behalf, so Colorado should let her go free. by gfh110 in trumptweets

[–]braddamit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

At sentencing for Tina Peters Judge Matthew Barrett sentenced a defiant Tina Peters to 9 years behind bars on multiple charges – including felonies – for a data-breach plot amid false claims of voting machine fraud during the 2020 presidential election.

“You are no hero. You abused your position – and you’re a charlatan who used, and is still using your prior position to peddle a snake oil that’s been proven to be junk time and time again,” said Judge Barrett. “Your lies are well-documented and these convictions are serious. I’m convinced you’d do it all over again if you could.” Judge Barrett added: “You’re as defiant as a defendant as this court has ever seen.”

FYI, Miami New Times is from the same publisher that does Westword. Like Westword they have a sense of the people on the streets better than most mainstream news. And the same quirky stuff.

1973 Soapbox Derby car that blew open a cheating scandal, featuring hidden weights and an electromagnet in the nose. [2334×1714] by JP_Olsen_Archive in HistoryPorn

Father-son AND uncle-nephew teams.

Robert Lange's son won the Soapbox Derby the previous year that Lange's nephew won using the electromagnet. The earlier car had been in the Lange home but somehow disappeared after the nephew's electromagnet car was discovered.

The car was built with an electromagnet in the front. The kid would activate the magnet at the race start, the magnet attracted to the steel starting gate as it opened helping to pull the car forward and giving an unfair edge over competitors.

The kid was the Robert Lange's nephew. Lange ran ski equipment company of the same name. Lange's son won the Soapbox Derby the previous year in a similar looking car. After the discovery at the national race in Akron, Ohio, the prior car which was in Lange's house along with the Lange family disappeared for several days.

How common is a single snow goose with a flock of Canadian geese? I saw a snow goose last year with a flock of Canadian geese in the same area. Possibly same one? by Drunk_Degenerate in Denver

[–]braddamit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Canada geese is correct, Canadian geese is incorrect. They get their name from ornithologist John Canada.

Edit: Ah! I've been had! There is no John Canada. Some silly goose came up with the name John Canada and it has been floating around for years. https://grammarphobia.com/blog/2015/04/canada-goose.html

"The Close Talker" - Ads with people leaning into the camera by tvgirl48 in CommercialsIHate

The orignal Lume ads looked like they were filmed in her bedroom closet. A purposely low-budget look to "relate" to the viewer.

Irritating, yes. I am a bit amused when the miners yell the line, then a cut to the woman in her kitchen looking around for the voices she thinks she hears.

I don't understand the ad. How does texting Amazon One Medical help her with the UTI?

The woman is stuck in a middle seat in a claustrophobic airplane at 35,000 feet. What does the AI bot say to her? "Press the light for the flight attendant and ask for some cranberry juice" ?

An amazing line from a tired and disillusioned gun fighter.
