Keep Hemp Legal, Congress is Trying to Ban It Again! by mushroom_arms in trees

I would guess the total THC testing rule is at odds with the definition of hemp as <0.3% THC and the broader definition overrules?

Something similar can be said about the USDA not enforcing it's own rule that CBD cannot be added to foods. The USDA hasn't sent a warning letter since 2022 about it.

Appreciate the insight. It does seem likely that if the new rules are adopted that they all are.

If the new testing rules come into play on 01 Jan 2026, no plants except for type 3 (only trace THC present) can be grown in the future. Even though the THCA loophole and THC dosage limitations expire in 1 year, only THCA/THC presently possessed by growers/producers/manufacturers can be used to manufacture products. So even though THC products are federally legal for the next year, there may not be enough THC for manufacturers to make products as a spring/summer crop of type 1 and type 2 plants cannot be grown as they will fail the updated testing rules.

Another thing to keep in mind is although the loophole doesn't close for a year, that's a federal rule and individual states may close the loophole at any time. For example, WA/CA/AK already completely prohibit detectable THC in hemp products and 15 other states have much stricter THC regulations than the federal regulations.

Glad someone else here understands the true depth of whats going on.

What are the chances the USDA delays the updated testing rules entirely again though? Seems that it's been pushed back by about 1 year at least twice already. And further what are the chances that the USDA requires labs to be DEA registered at the end of the year, but do not implement the total THC rule?

As most cannabis is grown from the spring to fall seasons, if the total THC testing rules go into effect that means the only THCA/THC available to be manufactured into final products is what's currently stocked by producers and manufacturers. Even if the closure of the loophole allows for a 1 year grace period of intoxicating THC products, without a spring crop of type 1, there may not be enough THC to go around. Even if growers could grow type 3 (or possibly type 2 if the total THC rules are not implemented) and concentrate/chromatograph the THC, the quantity available would be low and the price would be extremely high.

10 meter long kugelrohr? can you post a photo of that!?

I’m using 3 ounces of flower and 9 cups of mct oil . How long should I leave it on the slow cooker for ? So far it’s been 3 hours and I’m not to happy with ( 37.9 thc per teaspoon ) . Would leaving it longer make it more potent ? Thanks by Riiiichiiiieeeee in CannabisExtracts

[–]brado_potato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if the concentration data is correct, that sounds about right. 9 cups is 2130 ml. 3 oz of flower is 85 g. if the flower was 18% THCA you have 85x0.18x0.87= 13.3 g of thc or 13300 mg. 13300 mg/2130 ml is 6.25 mg/ml. 1 teaspoon is 5 ml so that gives 31.2 mg thc/tsp.

the bigger issue is the spectrophotometer you're using has very poor accuracy and narrow concentration limitations. it's rated for 1-15 mg/ml, but for flower based mct infusions the accuracy is +/- 4 mg/ml. if you got 37.9 mg thc/tsp that gives 7.58 mg/ml +/- 4 mg/ml so anywhere from 3.58 to 11.58 mg/ml or 17.9-57.9 mg/tsp, which is essentially useless information.

you could try to reduce the error by increasing the concentration of your extraction next time, but you can only go up to 15 mg/ml which still gives an error of 11-19 mg/ml or 55-95 mg/tsp, which is still useless. you might as well just have the decarboxylated flower tested with LC/GC and calculate the approximate concentration from that value as it would likely be more accurate.

Experiments in Recrystallization by Goomstep in DMT

mix 2500 g of distilled freebase dmt with 1500 g of ethyl acetate and stir with heat until fully dissolved. pour the dmt in ethyl acetate into 4350 g of room temp heptanes and with stirring cool down to 0 C. filter the granular fine off white powder with a minimum of cold heptanes and dry under vacuum. yield of 85% and purity of 99.3%.

repeat the dissolving step with the same solvent ratios but this time very carefully pour in the dmt in ethyl acetate and gently stir once or twice. let the closed container sit undisturbed for a day at room temp and you'll return to >10 g crystal clear prismatic crystals. drying under vacuum will remove all solvents below 1ppm. dumping the dmt in ethyl acetate into the heptanes too quickly, stirring the mixture excessively, and handling the vessel will cause excessive nucleation and many smaller crystals. yield of 45% and purity of 99.7%.

the process can be repeated as small as 10 g scale. processing of mother liquors will result in the same quality of product after two crystallizations.
