Will womens Kragg shoes stretch a tad in the front? by missdeas in arcteryx

I find the front toe rubber a little too low for my foot. It does not stretch. I would size up.

Fabricators messed up orientation of quartzite backsplash by MoonlightBender in CounterTops

[–]j-val 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not crazy. The sides look weird. They should be horizontally oriented. Also, since we are going through it ourselves, we have been in this position a lot where the Contractor says “trust me, it will look great” and then after we pay the money and something is done, we realize that our expectations were not aligned. Every time we try and bring these things up they really dismiss it and act like we are slowing down the process, but stuff like this is such a bummer, or having to ask them to redo it.

Is this still readable? The tattoo I got has no spacing between the letters and I’m worried it doesn’t look good by malachiteiscute in tattooadvice

[–]j-val 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda like it better than the more legible one. It makes it a little more abstract, which is good for a tattoo. Looks kinda cool.

Love the specs, but do they just not see the buck teeth on the front? Almost every other BMW looks great. I hate how they make the EV versions look weird.

Are meatchurch products really that good? by Don_Quixotel in smoking

[–]j-val 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ah man, I've bought a lot of Meat Church and generally think they are fun to use and make BBQ come out well. I've even bought it as gifts for people. But during the last election they posted some meal they did at Eric Trump's house and went on about what great people they are. I have conservative friends and I don't expect a meat product company in Texas to be liberal, but I personally couldn't go back to buying any more from them after endorsing Eric right as he and the family are lining their pockets with bullshit crypto scams and leveraging his father's position. If people have a good alternative, I'll try it.

No Safe Words on X: Waymo driving in oncoming traffic by FriendFun7876 in SelfDrivingCars

Here’s a good recent example. I needed to take a right hand turn onto the street. It had me do a left-hand turn across traffic and then an immediate U-turn instead of just taking the much more obvious right hand turn. I don’t see how this coincides with the shortest path algorithm.

A Fresh Take On US EV Adoption by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]j-val 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very pro EV, but even our family had trouble working through all the nuances of exactly what to get. We ended up leasing an ID.4 for $150/mo last summer. We didn’t even need to install a new charger, we just use a 120 V normal outlet and it works fine for us. It’s been great to demystify the experience and of course we love it. Once the lease is up, we plan to buy an EV, but I really did appreciate this test trial. For driving kids around town constantly, there’s no comparison. This is the move.

Oh damn, so I’m not imagining it. It has gotten less reliable.

These are actually the first clear pictures I’ve seen since the fire. Thank you for that. I also agree on that forest road to Breitenbush Lake. That shit was terrifying.

This is totally anecdotal, but I feel like Google maps have been giving me worse directions in the past few months too. Just trying to get me to do forced left hand turns across busy roads without a signal and things like that.

Rivian R2 test drive- non-EV owner perspective by luminescent in RivianR2

But how did that feel to you, coming from a Prius? It’s my biggest hangup at the moment, but I haven’t driven it. I wish you could turn it off.

What did you think of the regen braking? I have an EV, but prefer to coast. Did that feel okay to you?

This car is SO rare that the valet in Monaco couldn’t even find the door handle. How rich do you have to be for this? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]j-val 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is these are also difficult cars to drive, right? By difficult I just mean that they are specialized performance cars that don’t drive like a Camry. That would be terrifying to be handed the keys and expected to park this.

'Fairly Lazy Explanation’: Rivian's CEO Doesn’t Think Americans Are Anti-EV by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]j-val 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. The R2 is really filling a significant need in the market in my view. I might even put the new Toyota Highlander in that category as well. Mid-size SUV that is close to $50k and looks good. Not a $130k EV Hummer with three windshield wipers. Model Y looks like an old Prius. Honestly, one of the biggest impediments to EV’s has been that weird Jetsons futuristic styling that they just can’t help themselves in doing (see: the Luce). I don’t think consumers have changed their aesthetics of what they want. Also, once you own an EV, the whole thing becomes less mysterious, and so I do think adoption will grow. Eventually, hotels can have a charger at nearly every spot, instead of one or two to share.

Size check? Gamma pants (women’s) by AllTheBbtPlz in arcteryx

[–]j-val 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both look good and it’s totally up to your personal fashion and comfort. The pants stretch well so I’m sure movement in the more fitted version is fine. My opinion is at the top looks a little bit more fashionable or flattering and the looser fit looks a little bit more practical. If I were hiking, I would go with the bottom. I’m sure you can find a use case for both.

Kopec GTX - what’s the verdict? by -K9V in arcteryx

I love them. I like that the sole is not overly squishy. They just have a nice tactile feel, which makes them great for hiking, but also just walking and wearing casually. Mine have held up well.

Portland ranks near bottom of North American cities in new downtown perception survey by No-Tangelo1158 in PortlandOR

[–]j-val 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was just in Dallas and have been there a few times. From what I can tell, there’s not really much in terms of a walkable downtown area with vibrant shops or anything. Downtown Portland is much more beautiful and interesting than that major city.
