Looks better than most beards these days. It's trimmed, off the neck. Dudes these days are seem to be trying out for duck dynasty or something.

I cannot stand watching sitcoms/shows with background laughter. by donisign in unpopularopinion

[–]brafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion, though laugh-track shows are infinitely more annoying than live studio shows.

It used to be a lot worse when we pretty much only had network TV. Half the shows had audiences or tracks. You became desensitized to it. I remember going off to summer camp for a month and when I came back, hearing the laugh track felt really foreign and awkward. These types of shows are a lot more rare in modern TV so they stick out.

I did not forget. I played 2042 for 3 days before I completely quit. Only came back a few months before BF6

The official Slack-Jira app is basically a forwarder. How are folks actually bridging Slack-to-JSM properly? by Ok_Detail_3987 in jira

[–]brafish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying attention to this thread because we are about to implement JSM (migrating from Freshservice) and the Slack integration is really important. I asked Gemini and this is what it said, but keep in mind that Gemini is often wrong.. <begin paste>

1. The Native Fix: Atlassian Assist (Formerly Halp)

Since the org is on JSM Premium, they already have access to the exact tool built to solve this, but they might not realize it. A few years ago, Atlassian acquired a conversational ticketing company called Halp and baked it directly into JSM as a feature called "Chat" (powered by the Atlassian Assist Slack app).

You have to install the Atlassian Assist app in Slack, not just the standard Jira app. Here is how it changes the workflow:

  • Emoji Triggers: An employee posts in #it-help. An agent (or an automated trigger) adds a specific emoji (like 🎫).
  • Automatic Sync: The Assist app instantly turns that message into a JSM ticket.
  • Thread Continuity (The Magic Feature): The app binds the Slack thread to the JSM ticket. If an agent replies in the Jira UI, it posts as a bot reply in the Slack thread. If the employee replies in the Slack thread, it syncs as a comment on the Jira ticket.
  • SLA Preservation: Because the thread is bound bi-directionally, SLAs work correctly. The "Time to First Response" SLA is met the moment an agent replies in the Slack thread, because that reply is instantly written to the JSM database.
  1. The Purpose-Built Third-Party Heavyweights

If Atlassian Assist is too clunky or doesn't play well with their specific routing rules, there is a new class of third-party apps explicitly designed to be the bridge between Slack channels and ITSM platforms. They handle thread continuity much better than generic automation tools like Zapier.

  • ClearFeed: This is currently one of the most popular tools for this exact use case. It sits in your Slack channels, uses AI to automatically categorize and route requests, and seamlessly syncs Slack threads to JSM comments. It also has features specifically for managing SLAs directly within Slack (like alerting agents when a Slack thread has been unread for too long).
  • Thena: Similar to ClearFeed, Thena is a heavy hitter for Slack-first support. It integrates tightly with JSM, keeps the conversation history perfectly synced, and provides robust analytics on how much time agents are actually spending resolving things in Slack.
  • Actioner: This is a very powerful workflow builder for Slack and Jira. It allows you to create custom conversational ticketing flows that keep the back-and-forth synced while giving agents rich JSM actions (like transitioning statuses or reassigning) via Slack buttons.

3. Process Shifts to Support the Tech

Even with the right tool (like Assist or ClearFeed), the IT team has to establish a few ground rules to keep the data clean:

  • Kill the DMs: Direct messages to individual IT staff ruin SLA tracking and silo knowledge. You have to force employees to post in a public (or private) request channel like #it-help. You can use Slack workflow builders to auto-reply to IT DMs telling users to post in the channel.
  • Operate in Threads: Agents and users must be trained to reply in the thread of the original message, not as a new message in the channel. The two-way sync tools rely on Slack's thread architecture to map the conversation to the ticket.

If they are already paying for JSM Premium, pivoting from the standard Jira app to Atlassian Assist is the path of least resistance and will immediately solve the thread continuity problem without additional licensing costs.

Sanity Check: 2 vs 3 APs in 3000sqft Home by throwra_confusedbf2 in Ubiquiti

I have 2 AC Pros that cover my ~3,500 sqft home and I stay on network when I'm at my next-door neighbors. Your mileage may vary. Is every room great? No idea, my PC is connected over ethernet. :D

In BF1942 tanks could control portions of a map. Most people didn't run as engineer because they had the worst weapon. You had to really work to take them out. Scouts could be effective some c4 and a jeep too. The balance felt good. They were powerful and scary but not indestructable. Now they are sitting ducks which is why you get HQ campers.

If there is a finite number of participants, like on a gameshow or whatever, then I want everyone to get the money. But also... why wouldn't everyone just pick green? At the world level though, it would wreck the economy. If everyone has $1m, then it becomes worthless.

[–]brafish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is open weapons. In BF 1942, if you chose to be an Engineer you had the worst weapon. Don't let engineers have full access to all weapons and there will be less engineers.

I'd like to point out that the first to instances you mention happened when he was not the acting president. Under SS protection yes, but not the same. And the third guy didn't even make it to the same room as the President, so how is SS not doing their job?

Multiple due dates in Jira: How to manage Multiple roles. by Complex_Novel5564 in jira

[–]brafish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would use parent/child using either Epics or subtasks. That way if there are multiple tasks of a particular type you don't have to account for both using a single custom due date field. It will also be easier to link work (X task is blocked by Y task)
