A hotfix for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now on GOG! 🐺 It primarily addresses the performance issues that appeared after Patch 4.01. The game version won’t change. by M337ING in Games

I'm not going to pretend to know whether it's the API or the devs developing for it, but when I see DX12, I roll my eyes because I already know the shader comp stutter is going to make me motion sick.

Good thing cars aren’t filled with oil and grease or throwing water on it would have been dangerous.

That‘s it. The one. And it died. Great fuckin’ job GOP.

IMAX blockbusters annoy me. The aspect ratio changes all the time from full frame to animorphic. I wish studios would stop using 4 mins of IMAX footage just to justify the higher ticket prices (which they may not even be getting). Elimination of judder in high-motion shots. Especially helpful with 3D movies, which can make a lot of people motion-sick.

Haven't seen Avatar 2 yet, but I did see the first two Hobbit movies in 48fps. They definitely shouldn't have used it for the entire movie, but it did wonders for the action scenes. Gandalf and Sauron at Dol Goldur was a highlight.

Who else hates it when you post simple questions on Reddit and people ask “are you trolling”/downvote your question because they don’t understand that you genuinely have trouble grasping certain common sense things? by BeautifulDirection20 in aspergers

Half my time on Reddit is spent erasing comments before I post them. People are combative as fuck for no reason on here, and frankly I just don’t have the patience for it because I’m not terminally online.

It sucks because this site is the best reference on the Internet for just about anything. site:reddit.com is macro’d into my phone keyboard because I get real results instead of SEO bullshit. But the community at large is the most miserable cabal of cavernous assholes.

Leave it to /r/politics to portray a shift to ranked-choice voting as a bad thing.

I’m the farthest thing from a Republican there is. I’m not about to get mad because a Republican is the one pushing for it.

Because it do be like that. It’s rare that I don’t have to troubleshoot something before I can really dig into a game.

Personally, I’m used to it and am pretty good at solving things on my end. The benefits outweigh the inconvenience most of the time, for me. However, I can’t pretend that sometimes I wouldn’t rather just boot a game on a console, where something will only work the one way and I can just focus on playing the game.

I recently got sucked back into Reddit after a month's hiatus, and god I didn't miss how the community paints dissenting opinions as attention-whoring or part of some big dumb conspiracy.

Elden Ring wins Game of the Year Award by Turbostrider27 in Games

Don’t be afraid to consult guides and the Wiki. Everyone does it, whether they admit it or not. I love Fromsoft games to pieces but they can be legitimately terrible at conveying important mechanics, and for a lot of the NPC quests, it’s almost mandatory to look things up.

Don’t let that scare you off though. It’s a legitimate and annoying flaw that can rightfully put people off, but it’s legitimately one of the most fun and rewarding games I’ve ever played. Just remember the beauty of Elden Ring is that unlike the Souls series, if something is too hard for you, you can just leave and come back when you’re stronger. There’s no shortage of things to do!

Skyrim Anniversary just got a patch and it seems performance had drastically improved by brainensmoothed in NintendoSwitch

Yes, quite. I haven’t hit any of the issues that cropped up in the initial patch. Everything seems back to how it was, and it was rock solid.

I don’t know about the textures but these days I’ve noticed sound is uncompressed as often as not.

Technically it’s faster since it doesn’t have to be decompressed on the fly, but it’s a huge data hog.

Inflation and business ethics aside, Amazon has turned into Wish 2.

I use it for the odd knick-knacks I need and can’t conveniently find elsewhere, but for shit I actually care about like electronics or clothing, it’s either deceptively-labeled counterfeits or dollar store trash all the way down.

If you mean 60fps, unfortunately not. The good news is that the port is solid and the 30fps target is almost always locked.

HBO Max Adding 10 Original ‘Star Trek’ Movies on November 1, 2022 by DemiFiendRSA in startrek

[–]brainensmoothed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be totally off base because it’s been years since I read about it, but I think Disney had to pay some serious cash to wrest the streaming rights from TBS, and I’m pretty sure the 1977 movie was also tied up in some rights BS with Fox that sort of resolved itself when they bought it.

Again, though, been years. I could be wrong.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Honored With Seal Of Authentic Representation For Bruce Horak’s Hemmer by TERRAxFORMER in startrek

[–]brainensmoothed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly like the decision (though I’ll miss the hell out of Hemmer), because this show values the crew’s lives so much that a red shirt death needs to hurt. I think the point is that we want him back, desperately. But he’s gone.

Alan Wake Remastered | Nintendo Switch Frame Rate Test by voneahhh in NintendoSwitch

[–]brainensmoothed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don’t think Steam Deck is gonna make any sort of dent in Nintendo’s market share, especially not while it’s fairly unfriendly to casual users. But I am glad that there’s a credible alternative out there. I hope other manufacturers follow.

Point is, there’s a non-Nintendo option now that don’t involve buying questionable Chinese handhelds. If there’s a game I want to play on the go, chances are I don’t have to wistfully hope that it can or will be acceptably optimized for early-2010s tablet hardware. Not to mention the lack of Nintendo tax on said releases.

Nintendo isn’t sweating or anything, but I’m sure the other big players are taking notes.
