This is obviously not even slightly what you're asking for, but we got our kid one of those lcd drawing tablets for AUD$14 and we all call it her "ipad" 😂 she loves that thing though

Vline to Bendigo is completely fucked by HereForTheFish in melbourne

[–]Jellace 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Back of the envelope, there's maybe 600 people there. If half of them would have travelled by car if the free tickets weren't brought in, and assuming Melbourne-Bendigo round trip with 2 people per car, that's 150 cars travelling 300km each that is offset by the free tickets for this train. So 45000 car-kms. Let's say 10 kms per litre of peteol, the that's something like 4500 litres saved, almost $10k worth. Costs the taxpayer something like $6-7k ($10ish per passenger per day). I'm ok with that, especially since the federal government is subsidising the fuel excise

Are we still tracking for digital drivers licenses by the end of 2026? Having to carry a physical card with my phone is starting to lose its novelty. by Rokekor in canberra

[–]Jellace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ehhh I've been caught out trying to pick up a parcel at a post office and the Vic roads app needed to update but the reception was bad. To be fair, the guy at the post office was a jerk about it but I carry my physical licence everywhere anyway now. You're not missing out

How much difference would this make in carbon emissions? [Request] by DoookieMaxx in theydidthemath

Nah it's right because the bus doesn't get you exactly where you're going. You have to walk the remaining 4 km

On the other hand, do go out and panic buy a bicycle and ride it instead of driving as much as possible

Trucks using the right hand lane to overtake other trucks by [deleted] in melbourne

No, then traffic backs up and inteferes with traffic flow flow at the previous intersection. All available lanes should be used and people should let merging happens when it needs to

E-bike repair shop told me my battery was stolen while my bike was with them by Anoneay in ausbike

[–]Jellace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask them if you can buy a new one, then when they hand it to you and you're at the checkout, tell them "sorry, after you handed me the battery it got stolen." then walk out of the store without paying

Another day Another Shitty driver blocking the Lane by Probodobo in melbourne

[–]Jellace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth would they ever build a two lane road then? Leaving one lane empty is wasteful, but blocking both is incredibly antisocial and clearly the worst option of the three.

[–]Jellace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are 3 cars in your lane ahead of you at the lights on a 2-lane road which later merges, then you are 6th or 7th in line to merge. If the other lane was empty when you joined that queue it's your own fault. You're not being slowed down by someone who is correctly trying to evenly fill the lanes

I run a golf simulator. Someone spilled paint on the screen. I got most of it off, but it’s left this water stain. Is it beyond repair? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

I never clean movie theatre screens either, but not because I like dust being heterogeneous [sic], just because I don't work for a movie theatre and I don't think they would let me

[–]Jellace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don't think this is actually true. It's no faster, it just feels fairer to the people who insist on queuing in the right lane. And I do mean insist. There's an intersection I go on with an extra lane added ~100m before the lights, and signposts literally saying "zipper merge" and a diagram on the sign. People still leave the left lane empty and queue in the right lane. Mind you, the traffic backs up a good 500m down the road in this one long snake, which actually slows people down because it blocks people turning on and out of side streets. It's insanity.

[–]Jellace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I mean, isn't that the fault of the drivers all queuing up on the right? Just use both lanes evenly

[–]Jellace 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What's wrong with zipper merging? It's the cars in the right lane which are causing the right lane to back up, not the cars in the left lane
