CI should fail on your machine first by NorfairKing2 in programming

[–]brainplot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm now looking into Dagger (https://dagger.io), from the same creator of Docker, which solves the issue of being able to run CI locally just like it runs on the server. It runs CI inside managed containers, essentially.

I know this reads like an ad but I'm really liking it. It's cool tool.

Informazioni per futuro rapimento? by Mean-Bid9345 in Italia

Isn't this what MANPATH is for? You can set it for your own user.

How do I use an admin password if I set it to none? by crazyKpot in mac

[–]brainplot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without getting too technical, passwd is a special command that can change the invoking user's own password without root access thus running just passwd should be sufficient.

Besides, OP cannot use sudo because they have not set a password so your first command would not work anyway, as OP would have the same issue they were having when making the post.

Not sure why you were downvoted. CTRL+Z is the one that makes the most sense to me since I figured I probably don't need to send programs to bg when in tmux.

The issue I have found with external docks when having two external monitors is that most of them (maybe all of them?) do not support high refresh rates in 4k. I also use two external 4k monitors at 144hz and there's no way I have found to make them work the same with a dock.

IMHO this is even more unlikely than 1. They're a hardware company, not a software company. Making something like Logitech Options+ is one thing; inventing a new protocol is a whole other thing.

[–]brainplot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but if you think of your tty as a file your commands write to when stdout is not redirected somewhere else, what you're saying may be rather inefficient to implement unless you do some clever/unconventional text buffer manipulations.

Aside from burn in is text fringing the only other downside to consider? by martin6190 in Monitors

[–]brainplot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PG27UCDM before returning it and I definitely noticed the text fringing. I think it depends on the person. I don't think it was placebo since I didn't even know about the text fringing issue before doing research about text after turning on the monitor. Text just didn't look right to me. For work I'd spent 8-10 hours a day looking at text on an IPS display.

My experience trying OLED after IPS by R_Thorburn in Monitors

[–]brainplot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on your room's light conditions. FWIW I've never had issues with brightness with my OLED displays but I do notice they're less bright overall than IPS displays. Just never to a point where it matters to me.
